do you have to download each companies app in order to use their cards in passbook? Like fandango, cineplex, starbucks?? Are you actually telling me that i have to download each individual app to use their rewards cards??? If so that is the stupidest thing apples done lately. What a waste of storage!!

Blame the companies, not Apple. They don't HAVE to do it that way.

Passes can be added from a website or from an email. If they wanted, those companies could just let you log in to your account on their website and have a download link to your pass for Passbook and it would be added from their website. Or they could send you an email, same deal.

American Airlines updated their app today. I happen to be travelling tomorrow and checked into my flight and the AA app has a digital boarding pass. When I opened it, there was an option to add to passbook in the upper right (i think). So i have 1 item in Passbook.

I don't think the Starbucks app has been updated yet. only a few ballparks support it so not sure how it's supposed to look or who gets those (season ticket holders? stubhub purchases? or only ticketmaster purchases?)

I'll likely go to a movie when I'm visiting w/ family so I guess I'll try the Fandango app if that happens.

Passes, loyalty cards, vouchers etc can also be added via web download or email. These are basically signed XML scripts and expect to see these over the coming weeks/months from a variety of companies. Apps are only really required for additional functionality and management of services.

firstly, i do not know how to use it. it sends me to download apps from the app store?

I thought i could scan gift cards and sale cards and it will have them in there instantly

I wish they have used NFC

the guy in apple who said it is not for this time should have been fired

what is apple identity if it does not bring new stuff before everyone else

i do not like the path of the company lately, it just a catch up what the others did. I hope they look back and redefine their goals and plans

You don't need Passbook if that's all you want/need. Just take a photo of your cards and put them in an album in the Photos app.

They should have pre-populated it with a few cards to get us started so we would know how it all worked. Also, a mini-tutorial should launch upon first opening Passbook so we'd know how to populate it with more cards.

Millions of people are opening Passbook, clicking on the "App Store" button inside the app, and seeing the "Cannot Connect to iTunes" error message. Out of frustration and disappointment they'll just relegate it to an unused folder and not mess with it again.

Apple has to get these big launches right from day 1, but they just didn't deliver on this one.

Passbook is a big opportunity for Apple. I don't understand how they can screw this up so badly upon launch.

Same here. I can't even access the AppStore from within Passbook which makes it useless to me. Also, I didn't realize we had to also have a company's individual app to also have its card in Passbook...that strikes me as a cluster-f approach.

Same for me.

(using an iphone 4) when i try and access passbook apps a message comes up saying," Cannot connect to oTunes store"

But on my Mothers 4s it works fine?

Hopefully this will help :)

Have the same problem myself, both 4S and 4 not playing ball so I can't even test drive then darn thing. Maybe it's because the App store is overloaded with iOS 6 downloads

I try and be balanced and not too dramatic with how I adjust to change, but I tend to agree with this.

Just been playing with passsource.com think i get the idea behind it sort of.

Would companies just not email you a .pkpass file which then you can add directly into passbook. This would be things like boarding passes, game tickets, hotel bookings etc? Or would you still need the separate app app? I under stand that apps like the starbucks already have the 'starbucks card' feature built in? Would that then be changed to passbook?

Setting our system date a year forward?! Uh, no thanks.

I'll just wait for Apple to fix their screwup or I'll just relegate Passbook to a folder called "Unused".

You set the date forward, open Passbook again and try to connect to the App Store, then go back and reset the date. It works and you only have the date set a year forward for less than a minute.

I hope Passbook gets more robust over time.

And I hope the geolocation works better than it does in Reminders, which oftentimes can't tell I'm at the location that it's supposed to remind me about.

LOL - the only compatible app listed where I am (UK) is Lufthansa. British technological and customer service efficiency strikes again....

Will you tell us how it goes using the pass at the airport? Thanks.

NFC doesn't have any clear standards for payments. Everybody is doing something different with different hardware readers. The security implications of these NFC chips that can be scanned just by standing nearby aren't exactly ironed out either. I don't think NFC is ready for prime time.

Personally, I think Apple should devote some of their cash horde to starting a retail bank so they can cut out all the middle men in making transactions.

It's going to take months for it to gain real world functionality.

But this seems like a case of people complaining about something that doesn't fully exist yet. Just relax a bit.

"How can you miss someone you've never met?" Is this The Notebook or what?

I imagine because people became excited about the potential of Passbook, anyone that carries with them a wallet full of CCs, Store Cards and loyalty cards will have been excited by the unveiling in the keynote

It's small right now, but the potential is there. Much better than NFC in my opinion, because it's software not hardware. They should add a feature where you can input your own cards (via camera) and such, but i'm pretty sure more features will come over time.

I guess I misunderstood the app because I thought the future of this app was that it would replace the need of having so many apps by only extracting the parts I need (Tickets, GC balances, Coupons). I'd love to have a passbook with 100 cards but if that means Id have to have the 100 original apps also on my phone then this doesnt necessarily make things easier to manage.

Im not saying this is bad at all, but considering how much attention Passbook and Panorama got then it does feel a bit disappointing that these are more just "occasionally useful apps" than major features.

Maps and Passbook have been the two big negatives from iOS6 IMO. Really terrible. The rest is awesome. Anyways, anyone know how to get back to the list of supported stores? One you add a store to Passbook, there is no link to the list of supported stores at all.
