It's stupid or lazy to not use it IF it is functioning properly. Obviously your device isn't working...And your second device isn't working either. So get it replaced again. And yeah, 8.5 times out of 10 it works perfectly. The other 1.5 times I have to hit it a second time. I think that's pretty awesome for a hi-tech first gen feature. AND...Apple has already said that an update is coming very soon to address some issues. So im assuming it will even get better. This is totally expected with a feature like this. And I think Apple did an awesome job with it out of the box.

And as far as being stupid or lazy for not using some type of security on your phone...IT IS! why wouldn't you? And even if the FP scanner doesn't work, just go back to punching in a 4 digit passcode. Is that too hard? Then your phone is secure. I cant think of one other reason why anyone wouldn't use a passcode....Other then it being a PIA to punch in 4 digits every time...Aka lazy!

Guess mine is broken, not worth turning in again and if 85% is the best it can do when it IS working, I and many others still pass!:p

touch ID made pass codes a thing of the past. It is literally the same speed as unlocking an unlocked a non protected phone, since with that one must tap the home button and swipe to unlock anyway.

Prior to this I would set my phone to password proetc after five minutes of being locked.

"not worth turning in again"...Becuase when you return an item and the replacement has problems as well, it's too much trouble to return it again...I rest my case.

It does not make sense to me to return something that is working perfectly for my needs. You seem to be obcessed with my habits and choice to not use something that you think is so great! Try to move on, maybe get a job or something. I got a business to run and bantering words with you is over. Maybe you can convince the vast number of OTHER people who also choose not to use this feature just because Apple provides it. :p

You said in another post: "Mostly because im bored & i'm excited to see what Apple comes up with". Maybe they will provide another gimmick for you to play with.

Both pass code and touch id are really for your benefit and might save your info and phone should both of you become separated.

I understand that, but there is nothing on my phone I worry about. They can get my family pics and read my text messages. Big deal. My family pics are all public on flickr anyway.

You may not worry, but what about friends/families email, numbers, and other info? Something happens to you phone and they get spam, I'm sorry but not having a password is just irresponsible to all your friends and family members.

I use a password for me and to keep all my friends email/phone numbers private.

I don't have a passcode because I have nothing to hide or loose. My passwords are saved in 1password. If I were to think my phone is lost in a public place, I would ask a stranger or a family member to barrow their iOS device so I can lock it with find my iPhone:)

I have plenty to hide, but none of it is illegal. It's my contacts, digital life, emails, etc. just the fact that someone could get my address is reason enough to secure the phone.

Bingo, that right there is enought to put a password lock on it. I don't want some stranger looking at any info of mine even if it's not important. With all these scams, important info linked to my email, and others, it's worth having the passcode on.

You do know they can follow you home and get your address right? You might not want to go out in public.

Lol, they could also mug the mail carrier to get my address, but that's not the point. Why have any smartphone and use it as a dumb phone. If you are using this thing kind of as intended there is information that could potentially make it easy to be a victim if identity theft.

The internet hides people life experiences so I don't know if you can understand this or don't give a ####.

You said in a post:

I have tried to use the sensor no less than 6 times and it has NEVER worked well for me.

I have never lost a phone or had it stolen since the days when cell phones were small enough to carry.

And, well...I just giggled.

How could I guess you would "giggle":p

I do not trust anybody so yes, I have a passcode on my phone. Comes in handy if, God forbid, I were to lose it. Besides, it takes two seconds to type it in I don't know what's the big deal of not having one and those with fingerprints complaining that they have to type a passcode in when their fingerprint doesn't work. It's not like you're typing out the full numerics to pi. Anyway, I feel better knowing I have a passcode on there. I would never go unsecure on my phone.

Great point! I am amazed at people who say they have nothing on their smart phone to protect, then why have one if you don't use it for what it's made for?

Thank you for putting "required" in all caps and adding asterisks around it. Because if someone's already decided not to follow a regulation, then that would definitely make them reconsider.
You never know, stranger things have happened.

That said, in a lot of cases these kinds of "requirements" are forced onto the device when you connect to a business account based on a profile or Exchange settings or something like that, so often enough people don't even really get a choice (and it's essentially in fact a real "requirement" then that you can't even decide to follow or not, short of not using the device for business email or other business purposes).

It might be for you but after several times where is would not recognize either of my thumbs I gave up. I would tuch my thumb in every direction possible and nothing. When I am driving down the road, I do not need this cr^p. I want to pick up my phone and be able to use it with any hassle.

Choice is good and if it works for you, great! BUT, people saying that the ones who do not use it are lazy or stupid, well I can not agree!

My TouchId is accurate 90% of the times, since day one, months ago ...
If your experience with TouchId is so awful, maybe your iPhone is defective (a defective sensor) ....

I really can't wait to get a phone that does this. I don't mind using a password, but that just seems really nice.

Pass code, changing it every 4-6 weeks, one thing I find annoying is that you can only have 4 digits. When you do 5 it requires an additional press upon completion of the code to unlock the device whereas on 4 (simple) it unlocks as you type the last correct character!
