Hello there,

After reading 85 pages of this thread i couldnt find any info about some PC OEM blades im currently looking for buying...

If someone could confirm If them work with a Mac Pro 5.1 i would really appreciate 🙏🏼

What Im planning to do:

1 - wd pc sn730 512gb for use as boot drive with Monterey via opencore Martin Lo

2 - micron 2280 500gb for use as Scratch disk with active Reaper projects.

The two drives will be installed on dum PCIe cards on slots 1 and 2, as my rx560 4gb is running fine on slot 3 when working inside Reaper.

As the pricing for the listed compatible blades on the first post are now too high for my budget I've started to look at those OEM avaiable to on the local market (Brazil)

I only own now a Corsair mp600 gen 4 500gb but from what i could understand It is a no go for my setup, as the phison controller being not reliable.

I'm wrong about anything in my strategy?

Hope to get some feedback 🙏🏼

There are no advantages installing dumb/non PCIe switched M.2 adapters to slots PCIe 1 or 2, M.2 devices are x4 or less lanes.

Install your GPU to slot PCIe 1 or 2.

Ok, thanks for clarifying this... I think i've done the wrong testing with my Corsair cause on Black Magic It shows about 700mb/s writes on slot 3 or 4 but almost 1400 when installed on slot 2... But anyway, It must be just the wrong testing so...

Over the years one or two users reported that some PCIe 4 blades have issues running behind a PCIe v2 switch, slots 3 & 4 are behind one.

This is badly written blade firmware and a bad sign, if the blade can't even do that, a relatively common use case, imagine the other issues.

Yes, It makes a lot of sense

Ok, now i found two more units, the two are listed as good on the first post, but both disks has some other info on their Labels, so i Will add that info plus pictures of each one...

Samsung 960 evo 500gb (mzv6e500)

Toshiba Kioxia XG6 (kbg60zns512)

Are both good for booting Monterey on a MP5.1? Are both good as Scratch disk for Reaper active Projects? Is one better than te other for booting or scratching?

The Samsung is used but the Kioxia is new and i could bought two of them If they are the right ones

Another brain-twister for @tsialex - now running the following setup in the 5,1:
- IO-PEX40152 sled, which I understand to have 16x lanes, 4 blades.
- 3 x WD SN730 256GB
- 1 x WD SN810 256GB

Still maxing out around 3300MB/s. I guess the conclusion is that this is actually a x8 sled as well?
Hey, could you confirm If the sn730 Works as boot drive?

The Toshiba is the wrong one, the seller confirmed he published the product with the wrong name...

No, I went with Samsung 990 Pros, after I'd switched up to a 7,1.
How is your experience with the 990 Pro with 7,1?
I have existing 990 Pro 4tb that I want to use in my 7,1 that I recently bought, and are afraid to do so because the first page list the 990 pro as:
Issues/not compatible

They seem to work; you want to make sure you have the latest firmware on them, so you need a Windows machine handy for that.

Since i cant find the M2TPCE16X model on Riitop site i would like to know If the modelo on this link should work to boot macos (Samsung 970 evo slot 3) and to Scratch disk Samsung 960 evo slot 4) on MP5.1:

They dont send any product to Brazil ... :/

Yes, but that board has a different layout similar to HighPoint products (PLX chip closer to the tail of the PCB). On the one I'm curious about, the PLX chip sits closer to the mounting bracket, and it's ~30% cheaper for some reason.
I have 2 one the way.
Thanks but i know that already and have 4 ahci drives. So that would mean a 3200 MB/s with raid 0 boot disk 😅

Kinda crazy i think! Fastest 1,1 on the planet? But will see when the ADT's arrives. I hope the cooling is enough though.

Edit: just read 3200 MB/s is impossible on mac pro 1,1 and max out at 15/600 MB/s because of the Intel 5000X chipset.
raid 0 was 800 mb. 2 lanes ssd were 2150 read. 9100 pro in 5,1 was 2900. pci 3 speeds on a pci 1,1 bus is crazy. I bet i can get higher than 2150 read but no need because because i can't even use the full 20 Gb/s for networking due to limitations bus but i'll keep swapping and counting pci lanes. Move gpu to slot 3 or 4 and networking to slot 2 and plx in slot 1. Even designing a windtunnel/gap for the plx chip. This was just a test with 9100's and heat sink but i have lower ones for in the middle on the way. Also scored a wx 7100 but should have gotten the 5500. But this one is more beautifull blue. Also have all the plx tools and docs i need to feed gimini because it can't download those hahahaha

Hello, yesterday I have some really weird issues with a Monterey installation on a nvme M2...

My MP is a 5.1 dual 3.4gHz CPU 48gb ram and a Asus rx560 4gb running Monterey perfectly on a sata SSD on Bay 2 installed with open core Martin Lo 1.0.1. I have connected to this system two USB Midi controllers, one is USB 2.0 and the other is USB 1.0, so hot plugin os not supported for the last as Monterey dont support it, but when I plug It into a built-in Hub on the first (2.0 USB) controller it becomes capable of hot plugin again... All of that is normal and expected, right?

So, I bought a Samsung Evo 960 500gb and a Samsung 970 Evo 500gb plus two Lycom dt-120 cards. Then I removed Monterey from the sata SSD from Bay 2 and installed on It just the EFI folder from opencore leaving It with Just that, then I installed Monterey on PCIe slot 3 in the 970 Evo. The installation went fine, got all macos updates done and after that I flashed my clean boot ROM, reinstalled the nvme and started to customize Monterey System Settings and installed Reaper, and that was when things started to get weird ..

First weird issue: The 1.0 USB controller doesnt work anymore, the MP sees It but Reaper dont. The strange thing is that It was working fine with Monterey on the sata SSD. Nvram resets, swapping cables and other possible fixes relatted to the controller did not solved the problem. What could be happening here?

Second super weird issue: After trying to connect the 1.0 controller to other USB ports to see If It was the problem sudenly I got a red light on the CPU tray and ram slot 1 was not working anymore, I got panic and removed the PCIe card, reseted the nvram and boot back into Mojave wich was installed on Bay one all the time, ram got back to work, no red lights on CPU tray anymore....

So, somebody here have a clue about what has happened? Should I try to reinstall Monterey? Is there something obviously wrong am I doing?

Another question, as my 1.0 USB controller is giving me troubles with Monterey, I'm considering to move to Windows 10. Its possible to install Win10 in legacy boot mode on the Samsung 970 evo?

Any help will be very much apreciatted 🙏🏼

Mojave. Reset the NVRAM and remove any OCLP ESPs.
I've done that already, now i have only Mojave on Bay 1, nothing else...

The thing is what to do next... Its safe to try reinstalling OC on Bay 2 and Monterey on one of the Samsungs?

Maybe this time i could try to place the oc EFI folder inside the nvme (boot drive)?
