Afternoon all. The new Mac Pro arrived, but the HighPoint won't mount to the system, unless I erase it.

Any guidance? Thanks!

Disable secure boot. Install highpoint drivers. Install highpoint webGUI. Go to the Highpoint webGUI and raid the drives (if you're raiding them). Then in disk utility restore to APFS. If you're just using them as single drives in OSX you can just erase and format them one at a time and they will mount.

As the other fellow said, you have to disable the secure boot to get the HPT drivers to load. I'm using the HighPoint drivers on mine. I know macOS is supposed to have good support for NVMe, but after testing both, I seemed to get better synthetic test results with the HPT driver. Also, I want to be able to control the fan.

So I have the Sonnet card, (4) 2 TB evo plusses on the new Mac Pro, RAID 0.

Today when I started my computer up, the drive didn't mount. One of the blades wasn't loading.

I rebooted, and the drive mounted.

Do you guys think I should be concerned?

Can someone recommend a x4 (single) PCIe-Adapter with in black (to match MP7,1) that doesn’t have a LED?

I like this one (I bought 3 of them!) - it's black and fits into any of the MP7,1 free slots with a lip at the end so you can anchor it using the latch without needing a mounting bracket. Comes with a heatsink if you need one.

Hi Tim,

I've had two HighPoint cards in the last couple weeks. I send the first one into HighPoint (here in California), and they flashed the new firmware. However, I got it back and started having issues with it. I thought it was the card, and so frustrated, I just returned the card to Amazon, and got sent a replacement card from Amazon the same day.

Both cards had the "bowed/curved" boards issue you describe. I think it's because both cards came with this thick square thermal pad that is too thick, and frankly, too bulky for the design (IMO). Maybe on some drives it works correctly, but the result with my drives was a deformation of the card when you tightened down the screws on the back plate.

Anyways, it turns out my other issue was not the HighPoint card, but one of the 4 new NVMe drives. I did attempt to test each drive individually, but I guess I screwed up my testing because I concluded it was the card by mistake.

Well, the second card I got today from Amazon seems to have the new firmware already, and with the new firmware you can turn the fan speed down (or completely off) in the HighPoint driver management software. I should get a replacement NVMe drive tomorrow. I've been testing it with an array of only 3 drives. I will hopefully have all four drives installed and working then.

I am using custom thermal pads for my drives, instead of that sandwich meat that came with it. They are very high quality pads left over from years of building water cooled gaming PCs. After swapping out the pad, the drive temps are noticeably lower. More to the point, using thinner pads makes the card and back plate go together without any bowing.

Cheers,
Robert
The Highpoint SSD 7101-A from Amazon has a new firmware? It seems like Amazon is stocking up a new stock.

By the way, do you mind of sharing when did you order it and which warehouse it was sent out? I ordered mine a week ago and it was sent out from the warehouse in Humble, TX.

I bought 4 WD Black SN750 2TB since the 970 EVO Plus was out of stock.
Installed the drives inside two Syba I/O Crest SI-PEX40129 (slot 1 and 2) and so far everythings looks quite promising.
These are the first non-Samsung SSDs I ever bought and didn't return. (As of yet)

Single drive, HFS+, no RAID

Did you get the ones with the heatsink or without. The ones with the heatsink are £62 ($81) cheeper in the UK.

Unfortunately this exact card isn't available for purchase in my country but will look if I can find a similar device. Never considered this form factor because I assumed they would only work in the x16 slot.

Meanwhile I ordered two kryoM.2 evo. Maybe I'll just keep these with their silver brackets (I mean who looks a the back of the MP anyways ;), hope I'll be able to completely turn off the leds otherwise this would be a dealbreaker.)

Shame they won't fit. The 2TB version is cheaper that 2x 1TB Samsung 970's
I'm still waiting to see if the SYBA quad M2 (IO-PEX40152) works on a Mac. Can't buy it in the UK but Syba sent me an email to say that it is...

Just compared the prices at the German Amazon Store and the prices with and without heatsink are pretty much the same.
Crazy that the prices are that different between the two versions since it's the same drive.

Yeah it is a bit crazy. I wonder if you can take off the heatsink?

I don't know.. Doesn't work with the original Apple drives for the nMP (SSUAX and SSUBX) though.
I've had an SSUBX in my cMP for 4 years now.... Still going strong. Was so expensive when I bought it.... Will be time to jump to NVME soon

I got that same part Virtuoso mentioned, but branded by QNINE (see link below). It comes with decent thermal pads in three different thickness, don't over stuff it. It's nice in the Mac Pro because you don't have to take a blank out for it. My 2TB 970 Pro Plus still hits 50 Celsius when copying for over 5 minutes.
