OTA was *FREE*... My best friends widow could still watch the local ABC station on the old 25+yo TV w/ a bunny ear antenna in N. MN ... AppleTV+ is ... "Free" ..

It was leaving your 'local ABC station' either way, as the company that owns it, Peanuts Worldwide LLC were shopping it around the streaming networks. So it was always going to be the case, just that Apple paid up, and at least they are giving you a chance to watch them free, as opposed to Amazon Prime or Netflix, who would likely not do the same.

That's in the future. You're telling me there won't be nagging and such before you even know what it's going to look like.

As per my earlier post, we do know what it will look like, as I speak from previous times Apple offered free episodes of their shows to watch.....

when they are available, you do not need to do the free trial. You just need an AppleID to login with, and go to the TV website link, or sign into the app on an iOS device, Smart TV, etc, using that Apple ID and the free episode will be on the main 'Watch Now' section. That's how I did it when watching the first episodes of the new shows when Apple TV+ launched last year.

"Free" .. after high speed internet, and a new TV w/ the AppleTV app or an AppleTV. (Refurbs as low as $129/ea)

The devil is in the details.
Funny, as I thought you could get the ATV+ app on many, many devices. Like Roku, Amazon Fire, etc. oh wait, you can. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a household without one of these products.

Hey don't let facts get in the way of a mindless whine :)

Yes, a lot of consumers in aggregate absolutely can bully Apple.
I don't care how many people share my sentiment, I can live without Apple TV+ like everyone else does. Nobody uses it.
Speak for yourself. I use it and enjoy it. I would love for you to show your facts that NOBODY uses AppleTV Plus? The fact that you wanna stop using Apple products doesn't matter to Apple at all. Apple wouldn't be where they are today if consumers could really bully them. Nothing but nonsense from your post. Sorry but a few aggregate Apple haters on the internet isn't gonna do jack crap to Apple. SMH.

You also don't need to own a Apple device to watch these specials.

There are free periods for each of the specials.

Yep; I've experienced that on Twitter. Told a user that there are free periods for the specials and said user showed me a video of them trying to watch It's the Great Pumpkin outside of the free period yelling "SEE IT REQUIRES A CREDIT CARD!". (Well no ****ing ****; of course it'll require an account and credit card outside the free period you dumbass.)
It requires internet access which isn't free or available in all areas.

I don't know how in hell you can say it sucks to watch it streaming. What really sucks is watching it on broadcast TV and every 5 minutes another commercial break interrupts your enjoyment, and almost always it's an ad about someone's bad health or personal hygiene products.
Register your opinion about advertisements with the FCC. The AMA (American Medical Association) has petitioned the FCC to ban prescription pharmaceutical advertisements on OTA.

Ah! but these so-called fans wait until the holidays when the DVDs go up in price. LOL
What a blanket statement - they're all like that.

You don’t need any particular device, a regular old web browser will do.
With internet access. What does it cost you to access the internet before everything is "free"?

My favorite part of all of this…

If you can can sign an online petition, you already posses the tech to watch the Peanuts Specials for free! Apple TV+ even works in a web browser!

A lot of the misplaced anger is coming from people who don't know the difference from "Apple TV" the hardware and "Apple TV" the app. But, frankly, that's Apple Marketing's fault for naming things the way they did. The general public is confused over what their product is. Quite a few folks I've encountered think you need to buy an Apple TV to watch the Peanuts specials.
Maybe we with internet access are signing the petition for those who don't. But it's all about you.

I can definitely sympathize with those who have signed the petition. It's been a sort of family tradition for us at least to have the holiday specials on queue (along with How the Grinch Stole Christmas for December) and to watch them before or after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. In our scenario, we're visiting family that doesn't have a streaming device, and the smart TV they have may not get the ATV+ app in time (though fingers crossed they do). They have a cable TV DVR where they consume pretty much all of their content. I recognize that it's simply an evolved way of delivering the content and we'll definitely have the means to make it work (whether it's through Chromecast or bringing over an Apple TV). I also recognize that it is a pretty good way for Apple TV+ to get their foot in the door as long as they continue to make the app available on more devices/TVs/etc., release Apple One, and continue to release more great content. I need to get more of our friends and family to watch Ted Lasso, lol.
So why can't there be both options? Free OTA with commercials and included in Apple's TV service - ad free.

This seems to be a segment of fans that doesn't want to pay at all.
Or are willing to put up with advertisements. Like the original Dolly Madison cupcake ads for Zingers.

Hm.. Do signatures speak louder than dollars?
Though moderators won't like this, think about the question you just asked.

100,000 morons.
Just buy the DVD already. No commercials and you can watch it when you want....without an internet connection.
The number is upwards of 175,000 and it's amazing the numbers are stacked so heavily 1 genius vs. 175,00 morons. Bet people around you are amazed by your genius.

Maybe now that there's actually content on the service, it might be worth it?

Seriously though, they were only broadcast once per season, so how is it any bigger deal to watch them via an app versus rabbit ears?
Internet access at $60 + per month.

Money, competition, and business means far more than a bunch of whiners signatures.
We love your vision of democracy.

Do you enjoy watching a show when it's convenient for a network rather than your busy schedule?
Do you enjoy spending 30% of that time watching commercials?
Do you enjoy only getting to watch the show once?

THEN SIGN THIS PETITION!
Do you enjoy waking early in the morning to go to your boss's workplace at a specified time?
Do you enjoy spending hours in useless meetings?
Do you enjoy that you only get to live a day only once?

WELCOME TO YOUR WASTED LIFE

(Despite the title, "significant" is still quite small, and this is US only)
Pretty defensive response for someone who thinks the consumers' opinions don't matter. How's your Google+ profile?

I'm defensive? Yeah and you feel the need to go find links on the web to prove something you didn't even prove. As usual MR members exaggerate with over-the-top lines of text thinking they won't get called out. Don't exaggerate saying, "Nobody Uses it". As far as "consumer's opinions" that's not what it was. Your post stated that consumers can bully Apple and that nobody uses their AppleTV plus. That's not an opinion, that's the usual "If I don't like it nobody else does". 🙄

It's apparent that "nobody" doesn't mean literally 0 people. Often-quoted corporate wisdom says, you should never be interested in 3rd place of any market, only 1st and 2nd. That's why there's no Windows Phone anymore.

Nobody means...Nobody. This thread is about enjoying AppleTV Plus with the addition of the Peanuts category. You stated it's of no interest to you so I have no idea why you're pressed so hard to keep pushing? Please enjoy participating in a thread you have interest in.

I'd still rather have The Peanuts on TV than not. Signed the petition too.

Because Peanuts Worldwide LLC shipped the sole licensing rights out to the streaming service, as they want to earn money. It could have ended up at Netflix or Amazon Prime, who wouldn’t have have had them free for a 3 day window relating to the holiday each one relates to.

Plus these petitions are inflated by people signing multiple times with multiple email addresses.

Just contemplating the type of person who would be a 'longtime Peanuts fan'

I’m not even sure what this is supposed to mean. People like different things for all different reasons. I’m a longtime Peanuts fan. I’m 40, female, really into sports and activity, love dogs, including Snoopy. Grew up with Snoopy toys and stuff like that and still enjoy these shows as a tradition. Is that really hard to grasp? Maybe if you come out of your mom’s basement once in awhile and see what the world has to offer beyond Apple news this would be an easier concept for you.

I like the tradition of knowing a show is on at a certain time, looking forward to it, and sitting down at that time, commercials and all. It’s a nostalgic and traditional experience. I’m pretty tech savvy but don’t own a smart TV or even have any streaming services downloaded anywhere because I just don’t watch a lot of TV outside of sports which I get on regular cable or network TV; I don’t really have the time to watch much TV at all. My parents, who are in their 70’s, still like watching these shows. While they actually both have iPhones, there’s no way in hell they know how to hook them up to the TV (they don’t own a smart TV). They don’t even know what a streaming service is. Are we just supposed to forget that these segments of the population exist? I guess to the people here who live in a millennial Apple bubble think so. It’s mind-boggling how many people just can’t grasp the fact that people enjoy the tradition of watching an old, popular show, in an old fashioned way. Sheesh.

Isn't those shows designed for the older demographic? Do they even know how to use those devices? I agree with you by the way, but I was looking for a devils advocate. It is easier and traditional to turn on ABC and see it rather than turn on your device and see it.

Let's petition for all the Netflix and Amazon exclusives too.

There is a difference between actually creating something new and having that as an exclusive, versus taking something that wasn't exclusive and making it so.

This even goes for new content in a franchise. No-one complains about the Forza series being exclusive to Microsoft - it's always been there - while making e.g. the Elder scrolls exclusive from now on will surely cause a lot of fan vitriol.

Anyways, not only do I have the special on DVD, I also have the 1978 "Storyteller" LP record produced and distributed by Disney/Vista Records that basically features the entire "Great Pumpkin" special's audio, albeit with some edits and some newly-recorded dialogue tracks that describe mostly visual stuff in the original special.

In the days before home video, this was a popular way to re-enjoy a movie or TV special or whatever. So yep, I'm pretty much all set and don't need Apple TV+ for this! In fact, for Halloween 2014 I also did a vlog, in character as Disney's Big Bad Wolf (due to Disney distributing this LP), playing the record and commenting on it and its' differences, along with throwing in an amusing parody of the special from one of my childhood CD-ROM games.
And once again, I made this using iMovie '11 on my older mid-2009 MacBook. Time sure flies...

Read the comments to this promoted tweet. All negative. Apple could have ensured the holiday classics would remain on network TV where people are used to finding them.

Meh, 90% of Twitter is negative, moreso on tweets from Apple.

Apple isn’t to blame for it not being on Network TV, Peanuts Worldwide LLC, who own Peaunts and licence it out are to blame. Just in case you weren’t aware.

Is there a source for this? I find it hard to believe if Apple said let ABC continue to show the holiday classics Peanuts Worldwide would have said no. Because Apple is the one advertising this people are assuming they’re to blame. Whoever made this decision didn’t really think it through. How many people even know this stuff was moved to Apple TV? They just look at their guide and expect to see it on ABC. They could have at least allowed ABC to carry the classics like they have for decades.

Peanuts Worldwide LLC owns Peanuts and they control it all. They could have let ABC still have the licensing rights separate to non-streaming, leaving the steaming rights to be sold to the highest bidder (in this case Apple beating out Netflix, etc). Instead they obviously did not do this, and the rights to non-streaming lapsed.
