I got the email for this petition, and this was my first thought...
My second thought being to start a free trial and then pay $5-$10 and enjoy a couple of months of TV+?
TV+ is great, at least the few shows available. It’s uncrowded and whatever I choose to pick (that doesn’t rustle my jimmies that is) has been a delightful surprise.

General question: are CBS or the other one free to watch nationwide? Because if it isn’t (i.e cable tv or something) then it’s a good contender to think about ditching it.

Really cool nevertheless that the episodes and specials are available for free on their corresponding dates. That’s a bit of a class game in there.

While I’ll miss the tradition of watching Charlie Brown on ABC, I’ll definitely be tuning in to Apple TV+ this Friday with some great candy to go along with the show. Hopefully Apple TV+ will also get all the other Charlie Brown specials and movies that we don’t get to see too often.

You know how certain things come but once a year? Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, birthdays... etc. There is a certain anticipation about these things. This anticipation can often be exciting for people. These situations are also deeply rooted in tradition.

Catching a holiday special on TV is a similar experience. It's something you've traditionally done every year since you were a child. It's something your parents did. It's an experience that "throwing a DVD in" doesn't satisfy any more than a TV dinner would satisfy a Thanksgiving feast.

Having said that... I understand it, but I don't personally feel that way. I wish all holidays were bundled together into a day, or even two days, called Holiday. And all birthdays celebrated on a separate day called Birthday. We have way too many holidays and it seems like EVERYBODY has a birthday these days... Weird.

Anyway, I don't think this is that ridiculous. It's easy for people like us to get lost in the fantasy that everybody owns 4 iPhones and 6 iPads and 13 Apple TVs and 37 Homepods and Airpods in every pocket and subscriptions to every Apple and other streaming service and gigabit internet and 5G with unlimited data... But that's just not the case in the real world.

On their iPhone, iPad, smart TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Mac, ChomeOS device, Windows, or any android device.
Apple TV plus isn't available on Android. It's also not available on every smart TV, most notably Sony TVs that run Android TV. If you have an Apple device and can Airplay, sure, you're good. Otherwise you're SOL.

I like how most folks here are assuming that everyone has an Apple TV or a latest smart TV, or even fast internet.

Heck, a lot of people probably don't have smart TVs either and they're perfectly happy watching cable.

You only need a web browser or a TV made in the last 4 years. I think most people have one of those. You can also use a Blu-ray, dvd, or vhs player with any tv.

If people want to be mad about this they should start with a legal system that keeps this show out of the public domain.

A lot of that stuff is long gone already. 1 show isnt going to help. The only two that survive are the Honeymooners and Twilight Zone marathons plus a couple of the claymation movies.
ABC7 LA shows a lot of different old movies seemingly nonstop during the week before the 25th. Of course, being local TV, it depends where you live.

Apple tv app available through most smart tv's now.

Only on the very newest models...

Which illustrates why I only use AppleTV and not the "Smart" part of Smart TVs. Good displays last long, smart TV and app updates end very quickly. The Apple TV app seems also to be available on similar devices, like the Roku and Amazon's fire stick.

Also, can't they just watch it on Apple TV's website?

Similarly: Here in Norway, there is anxiety on whether or not the public broadcaster will be able to show the traditional Disney Christmas special "From All Of Us To All Of You" that has been sent for about 50 years or so. The fear is that Disney will move it to Disney+ (Talking as a Disney+ subscriber, I don't want that change )

Apple could pull a baller move by letting people mat least watch it for free via apple devices without subscription.
Which they stated they were doing, if you read the first post of this thread, and it isn't just limited to Apple devices, but any smart TV that can run the Apple TV app, Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, or via any web browsers.

Issue is Apple bought exclusive rights. We don't want to deal with that. Apple doesn't give out free things out of the goodness of their heart(s?). They want something out of it. They'll badger you to subscribe or whatever.

You don't get any nagging when you watch free things on Apple TV+, but don't let facts get in the way of your rant ;)

Isn’t this really the owners of CB’s problem? Not apple’s. I guess they could give apples money if they were stupid.

I made this point, but it was ignored, people just wanna bash Apple, cos it's more fun to them, rather than facts.

Then why is Apple buying exclusive rights to something just to serve it for free? Clearly they expect something out of it.

Edit: I tried tv.apple.com like you suggested. After dealing with the stupid 2FA (seriously I've verified this laptop 30 times), it presented me with an auto-renewing subscription. The classic.

Everyone has access to CBS. Whether OTA or cable. Free if it's over OTA. My issue is that it's a tradition to have it on TV each particular holiday and not everyone has an Apple device to watch it, contrary to popular belief on here. Yes it's a terrible show, but it's something some families may watch with their kids or grandkids.

But appleTV is accessible through many smart platforms. Amazon have a Fire stick for like £20.

Also if you're not in the US you don't have CBS or ABC. therefore being on AppleTV has now allowed it to be worldwide.

And Apple are giving the show for free?

Let's petition for all the Netflix and Amazon exclusives too.
Well, it _is_ a problem. The problem is that Netflix may be worth the monthly fee, and so is Amazon, and so is Apple TV, and a few others - but two of them are not worth two payments! The added value from a second channel is less than it costs, and worse for the third. So exclusives mean that lots of people just can't watch it.

You consider that little thing 'nagging'? Blimey. The way it was talked about, it was made to sound like something that was large and in your face, interrupting viewing something for free.... (with the verifying, maybe you haven't told it to trust that device).

They are offering the episodes free, with a 3 day window to view at your convenience, as many times you like, at the period of when it would have previously been aired, with a minuscule thing to say you can subscribe for access to everything. Normally it would be aired once on 1 day, with advert breaks repeatedly.

Yes, Apple would like to gain more subscribers, and the fact the licensed for the production company to make new Peanuts content, that is likely to be exclusive, which is something that was not happening before this. Also, it the rights could have been bought by Netflix or Amazon Prime, and there's NO CHANCE they would have given the free option.

Again, you and others seem to be blaming Apple for something instead of Peanuts Worldwide LLC, who went to all the streaming companies to sell the rights to.
