lol... OMG that's soo crappy... Elegant, but crappy

For $249, this is the best they can do ?

why would you want a square watch face ? These days its all round.. I know it's early days, but if the goal of "smart" watches, "which by the way that's a gimmick in itself, is to be smart, but only as long you are connected to your phone.... Take the phone out of the picture, and you just have a normal dumb watch....

If it was a watch with 3G, pulling data directly, and not needing to pair via phone, than THAT would be useful.

Maybe that's coming next ?

I was using a turn-by-turn map while driving yesterday and streaming music to my car radio via the USB cable (and charging the phone). When I wanted to skip or repeat or pause a song, I hit the appropriate button on my Pebble without touching the phone or looking at the Pebble.

How many steps would that take otherwise to switch out of the navigation app, over to music, then back to navigation? One of many many reasons I enjoy using my Pebble every day. Don't knock it if you have not tried it.

I like my current pebble and really the design of it.

These are pretty goofy looking though. I

f I want to wear a dress watch I will put on my Rolex, Tag, or Citz. If I want a fun watch I drop on my pebble or nooka, and if I'm working out it's a nike or polar.

It's not a dress watch and shouldn't be marketed as one. It's a fun day to day beater watch that has some great notification functionality to it. It makes the watch look cheaper then the rubber bands and color faces. They look like cheap Japanese knock off watches designed by someone with no style what-so-ever.

Either your comment is visitng from the 1960s, or you got your Asia mixed up.

"I'm going out for dinner, I'm wearing a suit, I've got a position that doesn't allow me to wear a plastic watch on my wrist."

Discarding Pebble, then praising the new Pebble.

Love it.

My current "Smartwatch" is a Citizen Proximity. Does everything I would like a smartwatch to do, looks like a normal watch and I never have to charge it or replace the battery. I'm looking forward to replacing it soon with something more fancy.

I've just bought an original Pebble (only to tide me over til Apple get the finger out) and tbh, I actually don't like the look of this one. Being a lass mind you, these new watches seem more for the men.

Am I the only who is pissed off at this? I own a pebble and I love it. I always really thought that if they shrunk the watch down by 25% and made it metal, it would be a home run. But they go and CHANGE THE DESIGN?! What in the hell were they thinking? Looks retarded. And I HATE how there is a pebble logo on it now, really? I don't want to see the word "pebble" every time I look at my watch, just looking at it in the pictures pisses me off. The whole reason it was called Pebble was because it looked like a pebble, all black and anonymous. And now they have to write the ****ed word pebble on it and ruin all that. This is a really big disappointment. They just conformed to other watch styles instead of sticking and improving on their original different design. **** pebble steel!

Pretty peeved... especially when you have to use that R - bomb in such a manner.

Sit down and play with your original Pebble. The new one won't hurt you, you know?

Am I the only person who looks at the sun to tell what time it is!?!

Look at the images. You don't see the word "Pebble" on each and every one of them? I'm not talking about the display, I'm talking about the wasted space under the display.

The bezel?

I'm not to crazy on branding but that was unusable space from the beginning (take a look at the exploded view in the video) as it's part of the glass mount.

I'm a happy owner of the first Pebble. These look a bit better. Not sure about the "design a watch face with an app" thing - surely programming one on a desktop/laptop allows more possibilities, and therefore more interesting designs. The market will get "flooded" with naff look-a-like watch faces.

I think the new steel design is a step in the right direction, but...

1. The watch case is still too thick.
2. The case design is too blocky.
3. The branding on the face is tacky.
4. The bezel around the screen is wasted space.
5. The three prongs where the ends of the band connect are ugly as hell.
6. The band is poorly made.

I want to have a smart watch that actually looks like a watch to people passing by. I want a round face with a circular screen, with a titanium band that is comfortable and well designed.

I don't understand people's obsession with old-fashioned round clock faces. Round spaces are bad for text information display, too much wasted space. There's a reason most informational displays are rectangular. I would rather have a watch band that simply wraps around my wrist like it's natural to be there, as transparent as possible. Men wear cuffed shirts and women wear cuff bracelets so I don't know why this would be a stretch. This pic isn't perfect but something like this:

Face size will determine are how it looks on your wrist. Some people, like myself, don't like huge face watches, while others do.

If you're going to have anything other than a 4 digit time on it, there's a limit to how small it could be and still be useful.

That is exactly the type of design that the majority of people would not want on their wrists. That exudes tackiness. Smart watches will only become mainstream if they can combine style and functionality.

Suit yourself. I think huge round watches are tacky, especially for a woman, and that's what you would have to have to be able to cram any readable information on it. Most people don't want to look like a rapper or a wall street douche.

Honestly.... You are the first person I've ever seen to use "understated" and "Breitling" in the same sentence!

Well, the Breitling Navitimer series is understated if you stick to the smaller watches such as the Cosmonaute. The ghastly Bentley series and current Superocean series are not understated at all I must confess.

The most we can do at this point is judge it by its proportions (which is what I was doing). I suppose you could assume a standard band size and then do a few estimates.

Because you stated that those watches have Based on the size of the plastic Pebble seen in some photos next to it, I would estimate the size to be about 43mm x 40mm.

I would hardly consider that to be ridiculously large.

I agree, I was surprised when I saw this side by side image. The standalone pics are very deceiving, also I think that the slightly more "square" shape makes it look chunkier than it might be. I have thick wrists and no problem with watches up to 50 mm and there seems to be a trend towards bigger watches as well... having that said, I still prefer the old pebble design over the new one since it doesn't try hard to look like a conventional watch, but that's a matter of taste. I hope that future smart watch makers will think outside of the box and come up with something that doesn't necessarily imitate the traditional watch look (which is why I probably prefer pebble v1.0 too).

As a Pebble owner, I hope they focus more energy on software development, and less on fancy new hardware.
