I see the the Pebble as being in its own niche, separate from the iWatch, Galaxy Gear, and other "smart watches". For one, it is almost inevitable that the iWatch will have a limited battery life, and that you will likely have to press a button or something to "wake" the display, while the Pebble has an "always on" display like a real watch. The Pebble is also more useful in outdoor conditions, especially bright sunlight.

Am I the only one?

Am I the only who is pissed off at this? I own a pebble and I love it. I always really thought that if they shrunk the watch down by 25% and made it metal, it would be a home run. But they go and CHANGE THE DESIGN?! What in the hell were they thinking? Looks retarded. And I HATE how there is a pebble logo on it now, really? I don't want to see the word "pebble" every time I look at my watch, just looking at it in the pictures pisses me off. The whole reason it was called Pebble was because it looked like a pebble, all black and anonymous. And now they have to write the ****ed word pebble on it and ruin all that. This is a really big disappointment. They just conformed to other watch styles instead of sticking and improving on their original different design. **** pebble steel!

Shouldn't this have been posted to GenericTechRumors.com or PebbleRumors.com? I see the tenuous Apple link to iWatch, but com'on let's not dilute the subject.

I don't see why you guys stick around if you hate what (apparently) "the site's become."

WTF are you talking about? You can chose any watch face you want. I don't have any references to pebble on my device.

Have you ever used a pebble?

To be fair, although you are correct as far as the original model is concerned, the steel pebbles do appear to have the pebble logo on the watch face below the screen. Each to their own though - I don't have a problem with it being there at all. I was amazed to see how many people didn't like the design on this thread though. I had decided I wanted one pretty much as soon as Eric had announced it and shown the first few seconds of the video. I couldn't load up the order page fast enough!

I was a kickstarter backer and received my white pebble back in July and I barely ever leave home without it now - especially since the recent firmware/software update added all notifications and LE support. Everyone who sees it and asks about it thinks it's a great idea, with pretty much the only negative being that "it's a bit plasticky" (and a few comments about the colour, but then that's my lifestyle choice for you ;)). I did replace the stock watch strap with a white leather fossil one, but other than that I really like it as is.

The only time I think twice about putting it on is when I'm wanting to look a bit smarter and a plastic watch, let alone a white one with a jumbo white leather watch strap would look a bit out of place. I will no longer have that concern with the matt black steel pebble and I look forward to being able to choose between smart and casual without having to sacrifice the convenience of notifications and simple control on my wrist.

Keep up the good work pebble!

Where do you find wristband replacements for the pebble?

Also, I should amend my post. It's the bezel that has the pebble logo on it, I was referring to just the screen, I mistook the post I responded to as saying that watch faces have to have the pebble logo on them.

Probably the first Smart-Watch I'd consider buying. I'm very picky when it comes to watches and i like to wear a watch so the concept of replacing my current one just didn't make sense before this one. It looks good, especially with the leather strap

I like the pebble idea, and I do think the original is worth its asking price given the functionality.

But this Steel model has low-quality (overpriced) written all over it in terms of horology. The bracelet is folded links, a design common for very low end (sub $100) watches like Fossil. This type of bracelet will pinch your wrists and pull your arm hair, precisely why it has not seen use on ANY high end watch since the 80's. The notched case design means it can only be used with the original bracelet or the original leather strap (like a Swatch) which is a no-no for any watch collector. I'd much rather have the original pebble, which is good value for the tech inside. I guess people who think Fossil is high end would be fine with it.

Love my Pebble

I genuinely think they'll all fail based upon trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. It's like having a remote control for your car radio. The controls are there, right there!

Then your not the target market.

I love my steering wheel buttons that are right there compared to the radio buttons that are not right there. I have to take my eyes off the road to fiddle with the car radio but not when using the steering wheel buttons.

Why I like my pebble:
  • Customisable watch face - digital/analog/words, date etc
  • Can see who is calling/texting when driving or sitting down - its not easy getting my mobile out of my jeans pocket while sitting.
  • Can change the track that is playing or skip 30 seconds of a podcast - again hard to do for me when phone is in pocket on the train. Can also change the track in the car, in the pool...
  • When on support for work, I can tell if I need to answer a call when in shower/bath/pool or don't have phone in my pocket.
  • The watch has an alarm thats actually easy to set along with the rest of the settings its a breeze to set compared to normal watches

Looking forward to see if Apple can improve this further as long as cost is low.

I'm still preferring old fashion watches. They are better built and look great. These examples below cost less than the Pebble.

thus far the wearables have only been interesting/pretty toys. They would seem like a fine idea if the price was cheap enough for me to buy it just for looks. sub $150 and as stylish as the expensive non-smart watches.

Seriously?

Talk about a hideous design. Looks like a cross between a cheap fossil, Kenneth Cole watch. I'd rather stick to the plain older version. If you wore this watch with any suit, both the suit and watch would scream cheap

----------

Why are you pissed off if you clearly have the first version which seems to be a much better watch? Simple, don't get the new version. It's a hideous looking watch that I wouldn't wear if I got it for free. See how many of these they end up selling

Freaking hell you could have warned us how loud that video was. I had my speakers on max, nearly blew me off my chair.

But seriously what the hell was that! The Pebble Watch - for people with absolutely no sense of style. All it lacked was the greasy hair and Iron Maiden t-shirt.

Looks nice. I love my Pebble but $100 above the original one seems a tad steep. Then again, some buy high end mechanical watches costing hundreds without blinking.

The problem with smart watches is that anything you buy now is going to be pointless and useless in 10 years. Anybody still wearing their DataLink watch from the 90's?

A mechanical watch will still be a fine piece of machinery in 20 years. Any smart watch, even Apple's, will have a limited useful lifespan. Just another consumable electronic device. For that reason it shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks. How many disposable $300+ items does the average person need?

Look at the images. You don't see the word "Pebble" on each and every one of them? I'm not talking about the display, I'm talking about the wasted space under the display.

I was hoping more for a Pebble "2.0" rather than just an updated look. I think it does look a little nicer, but not for the markup. I have ton of classic watches I can choose from for formal occasions and forgoing having a Pebble on my wrist for one evening is quite ok with me. Especially since it probably means I'm out with someone I want to be with.

Still, it's nice to see them doing something. I am eager to see their app store. All of the various tweaks for Pebble via Android have allowed me to create a nice experience that wasn't possible out of the box. If Pebble's own apps begin to replace those tweaks then I'll have one step closer to going back to iPhone which I've kinda been longing to do lately.

I personally love the design. It looks very elegant for $250.

I could see myself purchasing one of these, but with all these rumors of the iWatch I'm going to hold out. I'm sure many others are too, which sucks for Pebbele because they've designed something real nice.
