For me the Pebble wins 10-1...simply because of its battery life. I don't fancy the idea of charging my watch every night. (And the water proofing is a big plus too.)

I think I'll be able to handle not wearing the watch for an hour a day while it charges if necessary. Not a bad tradeoff for the much better screen and way more functionality.

.... but I expect the second gen Apple Watch to be the real killer device -- much as how the second gen iPad was long-lasting, as is the second-gen iPad Mini. For phones, it actually was the second-gen second-gen (the 3GS) that was the lasting device...

Anyway. Love Apple as much as ever, I just know that their first-gen devices, unless you're buying them as a collector, aren't the best ones to jump in with.

I agree with this but I intend to get one because it fulfills a need for me. I wanted it to do two things which it does, controls my music without the sound coming out of my wrist. Stil comes from the phone. And two it will allow me to reply to texts with Siri. Replying to texts will be so much easier on a bike ride, at stop lights I can just look at my wrist and reply, more more phishing our my phone, pulling off the gloves, etc.

If they would just allow 3rd party apps to use apply pay then it will be great at the train station too.

I am sure apple watch 2 is going to kill it
Thinner longer battery life etc etc
And I'll upgrade then too if I like it enough.

Awesome... Looks like Apple and Pebble in a neck to neck. Sounds like both companies get it. First watch.... After the release of the bands that makes sense to consider buying.

That's an advantage that doesn't make a difference to most people. Apple Watch should have a day of battery and most people take their watch off when they sleep.

Can you provide links to your data and sources, please? Thanks.

If that's true, why try to look like them?

Because "most people" like to wear something that doesn't look like it came from Toys R Us. Fashionably styled is not an Apple exclusive feature.

If Apple reveals astronomical prices next week, I may consider the Pebble Time Steel at its lower price during the kickstarter (while it's a steal... sorry).

Oh how cute, they painted their watch gold.

Yea, really. Looks like Samsung is running that company with how obvious a ripoff it is. Also, isn't kickstarter suppose to be for start up companies? Didn't pebble rake in millions already with the first watch? Seems like it's a way for them to push their watch. But I guess kickstarter just wants that %, eh?

Except if you use your watch as a silent alarm that vibrates to wake you up, but not the person sleeping next to you.

I'll probably use that on the Apple Watch. So I'll charge it while I'm getting ready in the morning and it should have enough battery to get me through the day. Or I can charge it an hour before I go to sleep and leave it on standby at night.

Lmao! Really, Pebble? Okay, even they fooled me and I had to look twice. Of course when the screen comes on, its clear as day, which is which.

Oh... but the screen is always on! Lol... just pointing it out. :)

The gunmetal version with the leather strap actually looks fairly nice. I'm tempted at $250 because I probably won't be able to get an Apple Watch that looks that good for under $600. But I'm just kinda horrified by the UI on that thing. The awkward icons are especially ugly. Perhaps if they had an alternative theme?

I'm probably best suited just waiting for the second or third generation Apple Watch—especially if I'm going to be spending a lot for the stainless steel model. Although I'm really getting an itch for a new watch. One of my link pins broke the other day and I took that as a sign that maybe I need to upgrade. If Apple had a clear upgrade plan for users then maybe I would get the first gen. If I'm going to be spending north of $600—possibly even north of $800-900 on an Apple Watch—I don't want it to become obsolete so quickly. If I could upgrade the S1 innards to an S2 every year for like $250 then that would be reasonable. At the September unveiling Apple mentioned how the S1 chip was sealed up in a nice little package. I wonder how easy that package is to swap out, including the battery?

Given the rather unsightly bulky watched a lot of people seem to wear these days I'm not so sure about that...unless that's what (some sort of steampunk/hipster inspired) "fashion" is these days.

I can understand that they wanted to make it look nicer, but can you honestly say that they weren't influenced by Apple's design?

Seems like watches have the "smart phone syndrome" - there are only a limited way of how you can make a rectangluar look. :D

Oh, totally. And there's still a 50/50 shot that they persuade me to get an Apple Watch Sport even though I know the real one to get is the second gen.

But yes, Siri support with the Apple Watch is a killer app. (I need a smartwatch for the music remote function -- that's what I use my original Pebble for, and what I'll use my new Pebble Time for.) Enough to get me to get a first-gen device that I know I won't use for more than a year and whose battery life I will curse? We'll see on March 9th.

I'll stick with a regular Pebble Time, thank you. I am very excited about the smart strap feature though.

The Apple Watch screen may have more colors, but the trade-off is that it's non-persistent... You'll have to keep waking it up... and, since it's immersive rather than reflective, it almost certainly will be much more difficult to read outdoors.

Plus the Apple Watch is a day with "average use". Heavy users will have to charge it more often.

Bad week for Apple. The S6/S6 Edge and now this!

You're forgetting one important difference. Using the Apple Watch looks like crap and it's confusing. The one area that Apple is not paying more attention to. Instead they rather show off the watch in fashion magazines.

Maybe they realize that only a fool would buy a tech piece that cost thousands of dollars which will become obsolete when gen 2 Apple Watch is released.

Yeah I agree. I'd suggest that Apple closes down while it's still fun. It can only go downhill from here. And once Apple is gone we should look for a new forum of some brand that we find stoopid and hate everything there :D .

The "fools" that buy this will buy it for fashion reasons more than tech reasons. I don't think someone who buys a rose gold Apple Watch for $5,000 will care much about new sensors. If you're buying it for the tech itself, get the sport edition and replace it every couple of years.

Exactly!
