I'm assuming this is why its so cheap (compared to other smart watches). You want something that looks really nice and uses nice(er) materials it will cost you.

This one looks cheap. My Steel which I wear every day (which only sometimes works for notifications, I have to reboot it several times) at least looks nice and expensive, I had to read to see if this would be steel at all since it looks plastic and rubbery.

Talk about a THICK bezel.

The Apple Watch can't come soon enough.

The design sucks. The new LG watch looks a ton better...if we are comparing 2015 smartwatches.

My problem is aren't they an established company now? Why do kick starter? I'd prefer kickstarter to be more for the little guys, and while pebble isn't big, they are definitely an established company. take some of your previous profits and put it to work.

Because they don't have any real confidence in their own products.

actually it likely will be in stores and on amazon....just like the current pebble.

With the ever expanding wearable market, stores won't stock every flavor under the sun. They will give Apple, Samsung, LG, Fitbit etc. prime spots while Pebble might get the bottom left hand corner if lucky.

This seems like the perfect thing to sell at Big Lots or Wal-Mart for $99. Great for the person getting the free Android phone of the week.

If that's seriously their best response to the :apple: Watch and Android Wear devices, I think they're in trouble.

Why do you say this is a response to Apple and Android and not just simply their next iteration of the watch they want to make?

Because they don't have any real confidence in their own products.

Or they still like to position themselves as the "indie" company instead of being "corporate."

This is the first time I see colour e-paper that not only looks good, it looks really fast!

I would really like being able to purchase the display itself as a module for Arduino/etc.

A small company that just made $1million in 30 minutes is over.

Pebble seems as doomed as Apple. ;)

Why do Kickstarter? Because it works. Lots of established game studios also run Kickstarters like Hidden Path, Double Fine. Good way of taking preorders and getting money sooner rather than later, also a very good way to gauge genuine interest (and not people simple saying they're going to buy one).

I could've sworn that I'd read a review for an upcoming Pebble watch with a color screen recently and the reviewer said that the color screen was awful. Am I dreaming or has this device already been reviewed?

I said it in another thread ... it's pretty ugly, but I'm glad to see the competition and innovation.

I'm actually amazed at how quickly the pledges are increasing in such a short time. It's more than doubled within the hour (when I first looked, it was around 4,000 backers).
They smoked their goal within 15 minutes.

The hate on this site for pebble and its products is just bizarre. No doubt the same people will be glossing over the Apple Watch's shortcomings when it is released. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to seeing how Cupertino's offering ends up working in day to day use and will likely buy one, but I am under no illusions that battery life will be somehow mystically longer than other smart watches that have gone the high power and touchscreen route.

I have been a pebble backer since the launch edition, then bought a steel, and have now backed the Time too - I think they are great little devices and the importance of the fact that the battery can last days between charges cannot be underestimated. Sure most days I do charge it overnight, but if I go away on a trip or visit friends overnight etc, being safe in the knowledge my watch will keep going till I'm next home is very useful. I won't be surprised if on some longer days the Apple Watch doesn't quite make it all the way through till the end of the night, and that will be a major downside.

Guess it just comes down to what compromises you are willing to make, and I for one am pretty happy with pebble's designs and feature sets.

I like their timeline interface -- a really nice take on how to organize info simply on your wrist.

Yes, that timeline concept intrigues me. Seems like a fresh take on how a wrist-worn device should serve the user.

I'm really not convinced Apple's approach for their watch is wholly appropriate. I.e., everything's a mini app with a correspondingly cute mini icon. It pains me to say this, but Apple's thinking seems somewhat stuck in the iPhone/iPad/iMac world.

It's a consistent approach, granted, but is it right? Seems a bit reminiscent of Microsoft's early days in mobile - pointlessly making PDAs look like teeny-weeny desktops.

I backed the original Pebble and still wear it daily. The only time I don't wear it is for dinner in smarter restaurants where I wear a "proper" watch because it looks better and because I'd rather concentrate

It's a bit long in the tooth now and I was going to replace it with a Steel (have ruled out the Apple Watch on the basis of battery life, and high cost for a V1 device that will undoubtedly have some issues).

Instead of the Steel, I've just backed this as well. For just over £100 delivered it's not a break-the-bank type of deal.

I may re-visit Apple Watch when it's on V2 or V3, but for now I'll stick with Pebble.

So the new one is heading even more down the fragmentation road between iOS and Android. One of the main new features, the microphone, only works for Gmail on iOS?!? If you've got an Android, might be a good deal, but Apple will never allow them to be a feature powerhouse on iOS.

e-paper and 7days battery is great.

too bad it looks like that and the integration into iOS will never be deep enough.

The display does look nice, and the UI looks fast. I wonder how well the voice recognition will work.

I don't think it's likely that I'll buy a smart watch this year, but if I do, I think I'm more likely to buy this one than the :apple:Watch.

A watch isn't just style to me. It needs to be functional. I need to be able to take it in the water and not worry about it. I need it to be up for as long as I'm up (sometimes ~30 hours) - I can't have it dying on me part way through my day.

Plus price is a factor. My current watch cost me $20. It doesn't do as much as the Pebble Time or :Apple:Watch (nor does it look as nice as either of them) but I think $160 is definitely a more reasonable asking price than $350.

Ah man! I'd put all my card details in and everything and then get an email saying it's gone and I'm not getting it!

I'm impressed that the ePaper screen is so fast, to be honest. 64 colours isn't great but it's a watch.

The battery life is going to sell this product. The waterproofness is nice. The UI is interesting, with the timeline view - it could work very well.

No, it's not an Apple Watch, the resolution appears to be fairly low, it's isn't amazingly attractive but neither is it unattractive, it just is, I guess. It would have been nice if the ePaper screen was a bit larger within the bezel.

I'm still not sold on smartwatches, but this one has quite a few pros. It also appears that the fitness tracking features work.

I've warn a Kickstarter since the beginning as well, but the hacky software is getting old 2 years later. Anxiously awaiting Apple Watch.

why would anyone invest into this kind of crap. Yu could by watch from 90's or invest into :apple:watch.

A watch from the 90's won't give you notifications from your smartphone and an Apple watch will cost nearly $200 more and won't last a day on a single charge.

Is the Apple Watch prettier? Sure. Does it have more features? Sure. Does it do a lot more than most people need? Sure.

The Pebble fills a nice niche.
