Still holding out for this-

Embarrassing. They will likely ship after the Apple Watch has already been released. This is destined for the $99 bin by June/July if it ever makes it to retail (which will be over populated with Apple Watch, LG, Samsung etc).

I'm curious have you ever owned a pebble watch? The pebble watch is highly underestimated. I brought a pebble watch a month back and it is highly functional for such low specs and the battery last almost a week.

Not only that a pebble cost $200 tops whereas iwatch is $400+.

You get what you pay for.

I wish I got what you posted :) I have a Pebble, what's this "Pro" version in that image? Why is there a colour image on the old Pebble, which was monochrome? It seems like maybe you're using wrong images?

Personally I love the look of the new Pebble interface. It'll be readable in direct sunlight so that's another big plus in my books! And those simple colours look like they'll stand out even better.

The Apple watch will last a day. But I agree, there are trade-offs... which is why nobody is forcing anyone to buy one or the other.

We know: Pebble is cheaper, lasts 7 days, can be worn swimming (but not underwater!?!?!)

We know: Pebble has worse graphics resolution, slower GUI, no touch screen, no heartbeat sensor, looks clunkier, etc. etc.

So there are trade-offs and we all are trying to form opinions based on these tradeoffs.

To me, the pebble watch is worth $99 with those trade-offs. So, to me it's a no-sale at $199 (or the kickstarter price, now at $179)

I'd prefer an Apple Watch at $249 without the HR monitor. The optical HR monitors are notoriously bad during strenuous activity, so you'll most likely still need a HR strap to obtain accurate HR data.

I think its cute but with the only activity tracking being steps, there are other options out there. The price point is right though.

Yes, the battery life of the watch IS awesome, but the GUI is very low res, and slow. So there are tradeoffs.

30 fps is slow now?

But yeah, it's low res, probably due to shortcomings with the ePaper display technology. That's the tradeoff you get for having a daylight readable display and week-long battery life.

Go to this website (the kickstarter page) and you can see the animations (half way down the page, guy with a blue shirt)

https://www.kickstarter.com/project...=hero&utm_medium=web&utm_source=getpebble.com

I can't link directly to the animations though. They're stored on a site named ksr-ugc.imgix.net/ which doesn't allow images off the kickstarter site.

It's horses for courses folks - I dont think you can really compare them as they're different price points. One has good battery life and is cheap but isnt really whatever a "smartwatch" is and one is dearer with much less battery life and much more function. Put a gun to my head and I wouldnt wear the Pebble tbh regardless of price.

The negativity in this thread is funny. Personally I think Pebble's done a good job with version 2 of their smart watch. I know plenty of people who would choose this option over Android Wear or an Apple Watch because of battery life, water resistance, simplicity, etc.

Not everyone wants a "computer" on their wrist. Some are happy for more simple notifications.

Hah, as if the Pebble is even good at notifications. It is horrible. Bluetooth connection is utter garbage.

Does anybody have any idea if the screen is smaller or larger than the steel? Also does the microphone work for texts (or anyhting really) if you have an iphone??

With the Apple Watch about to be announce within the next 30 days, I guess it makes sense to get one last infusion of cash in hopes that they will stay relevant once Apple releases its watch.

I do think that Pebble will continue, but its lead in the space will not. IMHO

I like the whole concept in general. It's great. They put a lot of thought into it and it delivers on battery life and functionality.

A few qualms I have are with the design of the interface and watch itself. It looks alright but the design screams playful and bubbly which, I can sorta associate with toddlers.

Yea, for the technology it's incredible but for jewelry... it's not so great.

Holy ******.

First off I didn't think that you could do a color e-paper display.

I really think that apple, samsung, and motorola (plus whatever others are in the game) are making a mistake by trying to jump straight to a device that rivals phones in terms of display quality and functions.

I really think that the apple watch will be (probably already is) a game changer in terms of what we expect from a smart watch. I really think that pebble time is a game changer of equal proportions.

I also want to add that this is pebble's THIRD device. To me that just shows so much initiative, willingness to improve, and that they are listening to the customers. I feel that apple and others are ahead of their time by at least a few years and that pebble is making devices that are representative of the best use of technologies available today.

Right now as I look the pebble kickstarter is over 3 million dollars, and climbing by at least $1000 every 5 second refresh.

Really?

I have no problems with my bluetooth connection.

I think the color e-paper looks pretty good but where's the HR monitor? Was kind of hoping for that in the next iteration. I might check out the Steel version when it comes out - the plastic version just isn't for me.

Pebble fan from the beginning - getting this instead of the AppleWatch

I jumped on the Pebble bandwagon from the jump and I still love my orange Pebble from Kickstarter. I love that I don't have to pull out my 6s to check the time or to see who's calling/texting. It's a more polite solution. I still get nearly a week on my Pebble.

The new one is slick and I don't mind the bezzle. It's fine. The look is funky/fresh, though probably not as professional as some would want.

I'm all about waiting for the second gen AppleWatch. That's gonna be a huge investment for an experiment. Original iPhone owners weren't happy for long. I'm glad I waited for the 3GS. Then the 4s. Then the 5s. Now the 6s. I think being in the even years (instead of the odd years) is wise with Apple. Ask my powerbook 5300c. I think it's going to be great!

The optical HR monitors don't work well when performing strenuous exercise. The more you sweat, the tighter the watch needs to be.

The amount of support this product has received on KS, in such a short amount of time, just goes to show how well executed the Pebble line of watches is. I love my Steel and personally subscribe to the notion that battery life and extension is more important than complete replacement of a smartphone.

UI looks fluid as well. Can't wait to see that color ePaper.

I agree.

They're both being marketed to different segments of watch buyers. Do you want more features, higher quality but a lower battery life? Or better battery life, and a more 1980s nintendo game boy look.

The battery life is a big one. 1 day really isn't enough for a watch. Many people will feel that way and not get the Apple Watch 1.0, and wait until whenever the battery life improves, like 2018 or so. This will give Pebble the advantage until that point. And I'm sure Pebble will slowly improve their graphics and design until both watches are somewhat similar in 2018 or so.

Now, Apple could do something like offer hot-swappable batteries, a way to charge the batteries with wrist movement, or a reserve battery life to keep limited functionality working for the remainder of the day. Anything they do will lure more people to the Apple camp.

I agree. However, Apple will sell $3 million worth in the first 5 minutes. So, it's all relative.

Fine...

According to rumors, the Apple Watch will last less than 3 hours if you're actually using it. According to Tim Cooke, people should get comfortable with the idea that they'll be charging it every day.

Better?

It's still nowhere near the 7 days a Pebble gets.
She already knows this as I myself have pointed it out to her as others have. I wouldn't bother feeding it.
