This comes to mind reading this:

And last I checked, BP and Halliburton & TransOcean are businesses run by people, like Tony Hayward and Carl-Henric Svanberg. Last I checked people make mistakes. They can underestimate the need to use quality products and adhere strictly to rigorous safety protocols. They can underestimate their wells and what can happen as a result of a mistake. And stuff can happen. And because of the scale we should all nail them to the cross. Remember this the next time you make a mistake or underestimate your abilities. I am sure that you'll want people to be forgiving. But I hope they are just as forgiving as you pathetic small people are crying for compensation for your losses and way to make a living for generations to come.

Yep. The problems with you ordering your iPhone and the oil spill destroying the wildlife in the gulf are exactly the same thing. Please try again.

Yeah really some of you people... someone got a discount, saved $100 which is a lot, and posted it. Who doesn't like discounts or free things? No need to rip people for trying to get a cheaper phone.

But it's ok to rip a new one to some CSR just because they happen to work for a company that recently caused you some frustration.

Perspective. As I wrote earlier - how would YOU like it if you had to deal with a customer like the OP. And then, no doubt exhausted, threw him a bone to help the situation only to have it bite you back in the butt because he posted his tirade on a public message board causing who knows how many people to call and demand the same thing.

Say what you want about Apple being able to afford it. That's not the point. Point is - enjoy your discount. No need to brag about it. Nor is there a need to ENCOURAGE people to take advantage of the situation.

Newsflash - I am SURE there are people who read this thread that didn't try to buy a phone yesterday or had little to no intentions who are now trying to scam there way into a discount.

ETA: It's exploiting the system. And what will happen is - when there are LEGITIMATE issues that customers have - Apple will be less tolerant/willing to throw discounts around. Look at what's happened with their adoption of policies like moisture strips. Nordstroms used to have a VERY liberal return policy. Now not so much. Because people abused it.

If you don't see a problem with that - then I feel sorry for you.

Honestly I don't doubt apple is doing some sort of compensation. But I would like to know how it is addressed to the customer service rep. When I had a genius appointment cancelled by an employee because I was 5 minutes past my appointment time (unexpected traffic) and then ignored by the employee until the store closed I called and talked to a rep at the main office (I didn't call the online store number, direct to cupertino). She apologized profusely and with out me even asking she asked what would I like in compensation. I ended up with a $100 coupon for a sale over $300. But that was a one of mistake by an apple employee. I am note sure what you would say to a CSR now. I feel upset about wasting 12 hours trying to order(which was my choice), and the fact that I had no choice on color like what was previously stated. I just feel odd complaining on this one.

did anyone who actually used one of these coupons check to see if it was actually applied as expected? I find it strange that the coupon is for $100 off a purchase of $300 and based on the screen-shot in the OP's first post it appears to have worked on a purchase of $299. can someone in this situation check your actual order confirmation email and post the result?
