So if the story is right, Peloton is blaming Apple but the customer has the final say whether they want to be tracked or not. If they don’t, it’s not Apple’s fault and their privacy guidelines are working as intended.

Spot on. And those who complain their growth is lower than expected basically admit their incompetence at forecasting.

Imagine being upset for loosing money that you were making selling peoples information that you didn’t need to get more money, and griping about it. Sick…

I think competition might be a larger factor than they are admitting. In Australia, Peleton is $17 per month, but of course works best with their own equipment ($$). Apple fitness plus is only $15. Somehow advertising doesn’t seem to be Peletons only issue.
No one seems to be mentioning the huge recall Peloton had due to their treadmills killing pets and babies. Maybe that had a knock on effect to their sales tragectory?

Tesla famously does not advertise. They have zero problem selling cars.

... and they're "famous" for not advertising because that represents a stark exception to the general reality that businesses wishing to grow need to actively seek new customers.

Tesla arguably has this done for them by the media and their owners, alleviating the need to do much/any themselves.

Few companies get to enjoy such a position; and the majority of those who do so still actively market themselves even if not strictly via "advertising".

Apple is one of the companies that could get away with this. Peloton also. The fans of these brands are ready made evangelists. How do you know someone uses a Peloton? They will tell you all about it.

I can understand completely how the privacy tracking will have adversely affected many, not so much with Peleton. They are a big brand with a big budget for advertising.

Struggling with Apple being so responsible for consumers not finding Peleton if they are looking for excercise.

*PIFFFF*

Unlikely. It just means they have to get subscribers the old fashioned way.

I'm sure they are reacting to Apple and Fitness+ eating some of their lunch. Could be...

Meh. Cry me a river, Peloton.

IMHO Peloton is deflecting - the market is getting more competitive with people having more choices - at the same time that the demand for online fitness classes may be tapering off as people start to emerge from their COVID bunkers.

Easier to blame Apple's privacy rules than admit to a shrinking more competitive marketplace.

I only have one answer when this kind of story shows up, where corporations cry and feel hurt about any positive privacy changes made for the consumers: cry harder!

Their sales are down because people have been going back to the gym. I use the Apple fitness+ at the gym for treadmill workouts and it’s great. Pelotons are cool but the upfront cost is high along with the monthly subscription which costs more than a moderately priced gym membership.

Perfectly put.

Sorry you'll have to use a few of your many dollar bills to wipe those tears, Peloton. I have no interest in handing over any personal information to you or any other companies that want to weasel their way into my life.

That's too bad. Find another way to get subscribers. Hire people with Marketing bachelor's and master's degrees. Let people have what little privacy they have left.

The tracking Peloton is talking about here is more random person not currently a customer “search for gym equipment with Google and get ads for Peloton when watching ads on youtube”

The tracking of their customers is already happening and part of your membership. You do a workout and peloton gets all the stats.

My data, my choice. Period. The entitlement mentality of these corporations is getting out of hand.

It's like when you walk into a store and someone offers to help. If you say yes, you need to let the associate know what you are looking for etc. If you say no (akin to prohibiting vendors from tracking you), you divulge nothing, and the store doesn't know what you might want. Again, your choice.

Awww poor baby is losing money to competition. Let’s all do our best as good citizens to give Peloton our personal browsing data so they can crawl out of their depression.

If Apple included their own advertising tracking in the main tracking switch then I would side with Apple, but they don't so I have sympathy with Peloton.

Earlier this year they blamed Covid easing up and everything reopening for their lowering profits. That one is a valid reason. The Apple advertising one is grasping at straws. I wonder what they’ll blame next.
