Mac Pro redesign

Since we'll be waiting till pretty much January for the new MacPros, they better do a design update.

I hope they do a aluminum with glass design. Im thinking aluminum side panels (like the macpros have now) with black glass all around the center of the macpro, that would look amazing!

Considering that the current Mac Pro was initially designed for the G5 processors I don't think a redesign is out of the question. I know a lot of people think it's the 'perfect' design but it's technically the first generation of that design (aside from internal tweaks). Remember how the workstations went from the blue/white G3 through the G4 Quicksilver and finally to the mirrored front with the exhaust ports?

I'm led to believe that the new processors run a lot cooler than previously so the 'wind tunnel' design may not be neccesary anymore. I think Apple could do with coming up with something that's a bit less imposing and fits in with the aesthetic of a modern office a bit more.

They do seem to be shifting towards the glass/aluminium wherever possible but so far the only reason to have glass is to cover a display so I can't see it featuring in a workstation design. (also the black/glass only features in lifestyle products - iPhone, iMac, iPod - the Mac Pro is for working on, not looking at)

Personally I'd like to see them come up with a double workstation line-up: the Mac Pro and the Mac Pro mini (or Mac mini Pro) I think a consumer/prosumer workstation is what is missing from their product offering (not everyone wants an iMac Steve!). Think of all the people who have bought Mac mini's with their own display and want to upgrade - the only choice is a Mac Pro and it's just too much of a jump for most people.

I guess a new Mac Pro is out of the question for this year? Should I start looking at (gulp) HP and premiere pro? I need to buy before the end of year (like a lot of businesses) So I guess Apple does not care about those who are fiscally diligent. I have 4500 set aside for a high end editor, and I wanted a Mac Pro. :( Just venting...

mac pro on a budget.

One option for some that would rather ease into the purchase and not let go of all that cash in one lump sum is to check out MacMall and apply for a Bill Me Later account. The grace period before the first payment is like 6 months no interest. I've only had mine since April, so I'm not looking for an upgrade, but some decent video card options would keep me satisfied.

Could you not buy Apple gift vouchers?

As long as the Pro Mini has dual-link DVI.

I wonder if we will ever see any more screw ups from Apple's site to give us a hint on the Mac Pro's release like what happened on the UK site for the clovertone 8 cores.

This wait has many people going bazurk. I saw a post were the poster ask if there was something peculiar about Apple's uk site as if there was a hint of the upcoming penryn based Mac Pro to be released the following day. He soon deleted the post after a cup of coffee :D

I certainly feel his pain :D
