Hi everyone,

new on here and i guess any announcements are made pre- us stock market opening so anytime from now to say 2:00pm uk time.

People are saying that because not all of the stores are down, that means not iMac update just yet, that it might be an update for the iPhone or something else:-(

I think we will have to except there isnt an Imac/mini today, there have been no signals like best buy inventory or weblogs showing a new revision.

and so I must refer to the answer I gave last tuesday

UP YOUR A$$ JOBSY:mad::D

BALLS.

I need a new computer.. bad.. Sucks that I'm one of those people that has to have the latest and greatest..

I guess I have another week to get my hopes up and read all the "New iMacs 03/18/08?!" threads..

pSc

This is getting frustrating. I've been waiting to buy an iMac for a while now, and I've reached the point where I'd happily settle for a refurb - if only they had any at the .fi store

I'm not expecting huge updates to the specs, but as the MB/MBP prices came down with the latest update (most likely due to strong Euro), I'm not going to buy the current generation iMac with the current full price. I could deal with not having the latest and the greatest, but I'm not going to pay extra for that.

No update today, I didn't really expect it today - the trail has gone cold!

Well the rumour said it would be in the next 4 weeks. Though I was also hoping for today.

This will be the first week in 2008 with no updates from Apple though :( That was the main reason why I was secretly expecting a new mini this week.

Once a mini comes out with the X3100 I'll get it right away. Until then I'm keeping my hand on my wallet :)

Today is ONLY Tuesday... still 3 Full days remaining.... Plus our good friends at :apple:HQ haven't had their coffee yet...so there is still time for today :)

Unfortunately, we probably won't see any updates today as the iPhone Software Roadmap was the big announcement last week and that was just Thursday. Apple will likely want to keep the momentum and news about that going for at least another week before they push out a product update.

So fingers crossed that 3/18 will be the day for new iMacs + Mini's. I, for one, don't think I can wait that long and might just order a new iMac this week.

wow how perfect would that be for me if we do get a mac mini update on 3.18. Thats how apple can wish me a happy birthday~!!! oh plzplzplz:D

Sort of a price drop?

Looks like the Apple Store Online (at least in the U.S.) the price of the top-end "stock" iMac was dropped $50 to $2149. Nothing else seems to have changed.

Not much of an update ):

For some of us, a Mac mini update would dovetail very nicely with the iPhone SDK and the App Store announcements.

If you think of the iPhone as a Mac mini mini, then the Mac mini is easily a sufficient computer to use for iPhone development. Since the App Store is going to make it dead simple to become an entrepreneur (for me the 30% bite is OK), being able to say that the mini was your dedicated dev tool (and you used your other Macs for personal things) and the cost of your membership ($99) goes against the income you generate from your wildly popular iPhone app makes this a very clean way to start a side business.

You never know...

I ordered 4 Mac minis for my work last month from Apple Store UK on 7 Feb and estimated delivery date? 14 March... Read into that whatever you will! Is it that Apple Store UK is actually really rubbish?

Local Apple Store had only one Mini on display

My local Apple Store only had one Mini out for display. Everything else was either iMacs or PowerMacs. I wonder why they are giving no love to the Mac Mini. I wouldn't think a refresh would have anything to do with the number on display.

The Apple sales person said he had heard of no refresh iMacs or Minis, but I would think he would not be allowed to tell me if he knew something was coming anyway.

MacGaming means Wii, 360, PS3 and maybe Blizzard. Get used to it.

I don't think there's much money in making pcgaming machines for Apple. Look at the pcs at your BestBuy. None of them have vid cards in them either.

If you want to pcgame then build a pc. GET a Macbook for your computing needs and then spend $500 to build a gaming pc that's as fast (for gaming at least) as a $3k Mac Pro.

No.

I'm sick of people telling me to build a PC. I've built PCs. I like to tinker so it's fun for me, but as for being an adequate solution to gaming, it's a hassle.

It wouldn't take Apple to release a "gamer-PC" to make would-be gamers happy. All it would take is for Apple to take a few very small steps. For one, there's no reason the iMac wouldn't be able to run one of the mobile 8 Series GeForce cards and stay within acceptable heat levels. Offering it as a BTO would be a great option for those who like to play games. Secondly, updating the Mac Mini to new chipsets (with modern integrated graphics) in a manner that isn't neglectful. By the time the MacMini gets Santa Rosa (and hence the x3100), it'll be bordering obsolescence. Montevina and the x4500 are right around the corner. It's not even that Santa Rosa is like a new type of processor or high-capacity hard drive... it's a chipset. There's no good reason Apple could not (or should not) have included it in the August update. Only their greed prevents the Mini from gaining simple abilities that would make it a much more attractive offering, not only to media enthusiasts but also moderate-core gamers.

It certainly wouldn't take much at all for Apple to - at the very least - be gamer-friendly. Just semi-frequent GMA upgrades and more BTO options. How difficult is it really?

I would like to see the upgrade to mini, since it is the best choice for my living room, that I can transfer my HD videos to mini and play on my HD TV, with frontrow my parents can control them freely.

Apple, upgrade it and release to us ASAP.

On that note, I wish Apple would allow the frontrow interface on the Mac Mini to have the same features as the Apple TV (ie. Movie Rentals, Surround Sound). The hardware in the mini is superior so I don't see why they can't do this...

It's not that they can't, it's that they won't.

The inferior hardware in an :apple:tv is obviously cheaper to buy than the hardware to build a Mini. Chances are the :apple:tv at its price point has a higher profit margin on it than the Mini at its respective price point, in which case if Apple were to provide :apple:tv functionality in a Mini, they would probably sell more Minis and make the :apple:tv practically redundant.

More units @ lower price point with bigger profit margin = more revenue.

The tech specs page for the :apple:tv is decidedly vague when it comes to the internals. It simply lists "Intel processor" and no mention of memory. The detail is predominantly based around the software's capabilities. They do this because its sole function is as a media hub.

The Mini, on the other hand, is a bona fide computer, and as such has detailed specs of the internals as consumers won't buy a product without the ability to compare it to the competition; ie other computers.

I personally think a Mini with :apple:tv functionality would be fantastic, but I do understand why Apple haven't and aren't going to go down that route.

My God, I can't believe how many times I just wrote :apple:tv! I think my vision's going blurry!
