Aside from all these issues, I can't wait for the update - simply because I really need it to start working on, and as soon as they update the processors, it will represent better value for money.

They should certainly upgrade the video card to 512 for the 24" range.

And, even if unlikely, they should really try and put a Quad-core into the top 24" - that would be grrrreat.

Either way, if they stick the 2.8 Extreme chip in the lower 24" I will get it. So please hurry up Apple, this Tuesday would be so awesome!

don't think you're going to get quad core- more likely duo core; also 256 for the video card- an nvidia 8600m gt. pretty sure macsupportpro website is correct, they listed these specs on Friday- all other specs on all other Macs are correct-can't see these as typos. don't know if 24" is still IP panel- sure hope so. OR these specs COULD be typos, but, I generally find this site to be very careful and accurate. don't want to start turmoil just telling you what I saw in the last week. keep your fingers crossed.

Yeah, I guess we will have to just wait and see - Quad Core is probably wishful thinking. I would be perfectly happy for the 2.8 Extreme to get the dropdown to base 24" - that would be good enough for my needs (and I'll update the RAM to 4gb myself).

Roll on Tuesday!

I ordered 24 extreme iMac from our dealer (I live in Russia) with 4 gb and 1TB update, but I didnt pay in the same day.
So I was surfing internet and got this strange feeling about I`m doing some kind of mistake on this deal with iMac. I checked everything again and video card - something that made me to cancel my order, becouse it seemed very outdated for me.

So i have my $ 3k waiting for the new iMac now. It would be great to have up to date machine.

And I really hope that they will put new graphic card, that is the reason for me to wait. 2600 is not so good, becouse I`m planning to play games sometimes and since my current configuration doesnt offer to me to play new games (P4, 1gb RAM, ati 9600xt) like Crisys or CoD 4 or Assasin`s Creed and so on, I`m looking forward to try this all with my new iMac

It wouldn't surprise me if we do see an update (a small one) for the iMacs over the next week or two. If the Macbooks and MacBook Pros have just got an update it stands to reason the iMac will be the next.

Well now that there is reports of a PURPLE Ipod, I guess that the iMac update is out of the question right?
I mean, they had a whole update on apples site for the PINK ipod...

hmm, i wonder how long apple will keep up this weekly cycle... surely it has to stop somewhere!

also, i am quite shocked at the lack of mac mini updates, we have to see some sort of update for that, i mean, honestly 1.83!!!!

Don't forget that the recently-released MacBook Air comes in at 1.6 GHz on the low end -- Apple isn't necessarily making clock speed the main priority (although it stands to reason that a lower-speed Mac mini doesn't necessarily have the design advantages / mandates that the MacBook Air's processors do).

New Penryn MBs slower?

A review of the new Penryn MBs shows them to be slower than the old ones (in the low end) because of less L2 cache. Will this be applicable to the new iMacs?

Despite having a slightly faster processor, the smaller L2 cache of the Penryn processors means the base MacBook (Early 2008) is slower than the base MacBook (Late 2007). If you’re considering buying a base MacBook, you might want to shop around and see if you can snag an old one rather than a new one.

stop getting off-topic, anymore hints as to when the new iMac will be out?

i get the feeling it's not going to happen now, since it still hasn't made it as a frontpage rumor here.

not true. the tuesday updates with the pink ipods and aperture 2 came out without much ado. granted these are small and of lesser concern compared to the macbook/pro updates, but they still happened.

pulling the trigger on refurb discount now?

Seeing that I would like a refurb model of the 24" category any way, I am wondering whether the current discount of 18% (special offering) is likely to be increased when or if newer models appear. What is the price policy of apple in repricing last generation models?

I am in no hurry, so I don't mind waiting for a few weeks - but if an update does not bring a price reduction on the current refurbs, I might as well enjoy my first mac sooner than later.

So does this mean it is not happening today? Its 8:48 am in the UK which means its after midnight in the US right?

No new iMac?

Calm down. Expect the store to come down anytime between 10:30am and 1pm GMT if something is coming.

As it would be a silent update, it could come even later in the day.

All stores go down at the same time (usually following the American store). Does anyone know how long the stores usually stay down for? If I remember correctly, the UK store came back up around 2.30pm last week with the MacBook and MacBook Pro updates, (but I'm not sure when they went down).

Come on Apple, my money is ready for you... all I ask for in return is a updated graphics card. (I will even settle for a 512MB BTO option of the current ones). But I refuse to buy the next update if there are no updates to the graphics card.

The store can go down at anytime depending on the update, but it will usually go back online at 1.30pm UK time.

If it is just the US store down, that usually indicates a more minor update... I really hope they update the iMac - whatever they do, I just want it asap!

Check again in about 45min - if the US store is down, there will be some sort of update...

Hold tight peeps

it is possible that the store will still go down as last week it didn't go down until about quarter past twelve ish
