Gotta cut back and go on a sarcasm diet. Some people take it quite poorly. I had to think long and hard before using all those curse words/asterisks to make my point in case I got banned or warned.

I gave up sarcasm for Lent one year. I made it until 9 am Ash Wednesday. As the days wore on it got easier. I was less bitter and sarcastic and people noticed. Some people thought I was sick. Some people wondered if I got a new job or some.

I am back to my old ways. When I am off my game I am snarky. When I am thinking clearly I transcend to brutally incisive.

Actually though compared to a lot of the dark corners of the net macrumors is sunshine and motherfather puppies.

THIS Butter has officially........Cracked.

In posts like that i'm so tempted to just say "Wait for the new model it will be out soon", no matter when the thread is posted and no matter how new the current model is.

Then i just close the page before i get in trouble...

Although one could say "My god man make up your own darn mind with the facts as they are!"

What is with people and being so negative on here? I mean you ask a question on something you want to learn about and they torment you with their negative comments! And it's not just me I see it all around on the forums and it is generally the same people! I am not going to say any names. Seriously though do they feel tough behind a computer screen when they make fun or try and put someone else down? It's rediculous the waysome people are treated and it should stop. I came to this forum to learn about macs as did most likly HALF the population here. So if no one wants to help just beat it, no one needs to here your negative comments!

That was my attack on people here, never done it but it felt good :) Remember this isn't everyone it is only a select few that really need to shut up.

good post.....as for you @$$ holes out there..seriously..GET A GRIP:apple:

Often people that have been on MR for a long time tend to forget how it was being a newbie and coming on board here for the first time.I remember.I was so afraid of this community that I just lurked for a while to learn the ropes. So to speak.
Someone that jumps right in and sees all the kewl discussions and polls etc. thinks it's ok to start new discussions and polls thinking it's the norm.Which , by looking at the structure of MR , one would think that is the norm.

I have never started a discussion.Probably never will unless there's some ground braking thing I can think of.

Newbies..Cut them some slack :)

Yeah, that was me who posted that thread. I figured that MAYBE people who actually have been Mac fans for a long time knew something that I didn't, or who recognize trends could give their opinion since they know more than I.

Sure, the 'facts' are there, but I wasn't asking for a fact. I wanted opinions. Opinions from people who know Mac, and know what to look for when buying one.

But thanks for humbling me, since apparently asking for a more experienced opinion is wrong on this forum.

Just wait till the iPhone is released, if we thought the questions were bad now...

It's not wrong, it's just that this exact question comes up before every event. In this case you even have most of the facts (Leopard, possibly iLife, etc.). It always boils down to buy if you need wait if you don't.

It's not that it's soo bad that you made a threat like this, it's just that of this particular question some people have heard enough. :)

That's cool, I understand that this question has probably been driven into the ground. But a little help on this matter would have been useful.

For example, NAB is a broadcasting convention, and I have no idea if Apple usually announces their products at conventions like these, or just announces them out of the blue. When it comes to dropping 2000+ dollars on a machine I've never used, I would like to have someone elses thoughts on whether or not a significant upgrade is coming and to wait it out.

Also, everyone is saying 'New stuff coming soon, just wait', but the buyers guide (the 'facts' as people called them earlier) says that Macbooks are in the middle of their life-cycle, hence why I wanted a more experienced opinion.

I totally did walk into that post knowing that it was a newbie question, I should have known better :p

There's a Gloomy Gus in every group.
Don't let them get to you.
If you want, I'll be your ray of sunshine. I'll follow you around from thread to thread and post positive, happy things. :)

Don't worry about it. Live and learn. NAB is usually used for software announcements like FCP, Logic, etc. but has also been used for the introduction of pro hardware in the past. If you're considering a MB I wouldn't bet on NAB. The thing you have to decide is the software, I personally would wait for Leopard - and maybe even iLife 07 - since we are so close to it being released (June at the latest) and maybe Santa Rosa (new Intel chipset) but nobody knows when Apple is gonna update the MacBooks.

You just have to know whether you need it now or you could wait 2-4 months. You would be getting a great machine either way.
Me personally I jumped the Apple ship with an iBook and gave that to my mum 3 months afterwards getting myself a Powerbook. Thing is I could afford it. If you can't decide on whether you need it now, if not wait for the next revision or at least until Leopard and iLife ships.

If you came to learn about Macs, it would be called a help line or an 0nline operating manual. This is community discussion as it clearly states on the packaging. In a democratic society a community consists of free thinking individuals with varying opinions, beliefs and methods of communicating their thoughts. Tolerance is a cornerstone of this ideal and the www itself. If you dont like what 50% of the people say that is probably consistent with real life. Remember the perception of negativity is function of the recipient.
EDIT; sorry to be so negative

Thank you very much Diatribe! Honestly. That was exactly the kind of opinion I was looking for, and it was very useful.

Back to the negativity issue, maybe some people are just having a bad day. I can completely understand how people get mad at really stupid posts, and then take it out on other people.

Kinda like flipping over tables in a bar fight. It's not the table's fault, but you need to take it out on something. :)

I hope i'm helpful most of the time but yes i'd probably be classed as one of those negative people who make negative comments.

Mainly when people ask stupid questions which take one google search to answer.

Personally it's not the question that bugs me, it's the fact that the person is too god damn lazy to try and find the answer. Laziness bugs the hell out of me. They expect us to take up our time helping them yet they don't take 10 seconds to do a google search before posting their question.

These people expect every answer to be spoon fed to them!

However that kind of negativity is different from the butt wipes who just like to troll.

One thing I've learned as both a customer service peon of many years and a newbie to the Mac World is that it's not just about being willing to look for the answers but knowing enough to know HOW to ask the question.

What may seem simple and easy for you, may be a difficult concept for someone to even know how to phrase and ask about, never mind how to find an answer for.

Just something to keep in mind next time you want to roll your eyes and smirk at another newbie. :)

You have a point BUT when someone asks questions like how to i do X on my Y mac and you go google and type x and y and click search and it gives you the answer...

If I want to run my macbook in lid closed mode. I go and look for macbook and lid closed and see what it comes up with.

A lot of the questions people ask, i don't know what the right question is either. I just go to google, and type in key words from their post and see what happens. It's so easy to see that the person didn't even try any type of google search. Anyway i've found that the more stuff i work out myself, the more stuff i can work out.

If you see rude, offensive or mocking posts, use the "Report Post" button Picture 5.png to let a mod know.

One of the great things about this community is how helpful its members are and how committed so many of its members are to reporting posters who step out of line. Takes a lot of effort from a lot of people to keep MR smooth -- I'd assume mods are thankful the more help they get from each of us.

Everything would be fine, if people around here took iGary's advice and used more lube. Simple as that.
No matter how much lube you use, if you complain about the loving you get here, somebody is going to go out and try to insert a bigger object.

Plus, newbies are like mimes -- torturing them is our revenge for their free street performance.

I know i sometimes am a bit curt with people who ask silly questions. I hope i'm not downright rude.

For me there is a big difference with saying "OI don't be lazy" and launching a full on assault at someone for being lazy. Let's hope no one ever has to report me :)

Negativity sucks. I hope these people ****ing die a horrid death and let us happy people live our ****ing lives!
you should have a sarcasm contest with jsw.
This is now my favourite thread.
Shut up you moron, if you googled anything, you would have known that it's already my favorite thread and you can't make it your favorite! Hrmph!
:p

Anyways, besides general negativity, the egos of some people are really inflated. I don't care that you only have L glass, have been using photoshop since it came out, or have shot weddings for money if you don't have anything to say but the fact that you think you're a better photog than me, then you post shots in the POD thread that my 5 year old brother could have taken.

I think the main problem is that an identical thread (or 2, or 3, or.....7) similar threads were probably started within 3 days of each other, and they sit on the exact same page. Heck, maybe your thread is below another thread that asks the same question. If people don't do a search for a topic before starting a new thread, at least have the decency to look and see whether there's an existing active thread that addresses your question.

I'm not saying I have a problem with your thread. I don't. I answer the same question over and over again, and don't usually complain unless the OP is being a d*** and demanding that we answer the question within 6 hours (as though we're obligated to answer him at all). However, I can see why people get frustrated.

Actually, I find the long-time members like myself to be more patient of newbie questions. It's the people who have been here for 6 to 12 months who crack and go nuts on some n00b who only came to ask a simple question. ;)
