In a community of this size, negativity is going to happen.

I've never ran into any negative people here. I feel like I can always come here to relax. . . soak up the atmosphere and let my 1 incher hang out.

Although i'm sure there is a hint of sarcasm there i do agree with you. Being a newb doesn't mean you are allowed ask stupid questions that 5 minutes of googling would answer. As i've said already, those kinds of post annoy me because of the sheer laziness of the person asking.
I knew a person who'd call me up and ask me "What's a .ogg file?" or similar. My answer was plainly "Google it".
Well i think sarcasm was the wrong word. I meant more like a light hearted jab but the meaning was sound.
Ya sort of like someone saying they hate people who are intolerant of other peoples beliefs...
Ain't that the truth. If you guys think this site is bad, try out a PC forum like [H]ardForum, GeneralMayhem, or something of the like. Our community is cupcakes and fairies compared to what normally goes on in online forums. Reason being: the mods on MR have a tighter control, and believe in moderating quite a bit more than most other forums.
Hence, on MR, I think they are among the least negative forums that I frequent every day. Anything like personal attacks or the like are automatic bans; go to a PC forum, anything less than finding another member's address, and personally knocking on their door to kill their children are 100% allowed. MR is quite civil compared to the big bad world of online forums.
True, but Anandtech and ARS are true nerds; those at [H] are young nerds with angst, trash talking about their xbox points or how well they've OCed their cpu. I'd know, I usually have a good ol' time over there
Granted, not in a childish way, just for some general info/bantering. Specifically, their threads have far more detail about nearly everything that MR doesn't (i.e. specifics regarding hardware, oc'ing, video cards, monitors/LCD's, etc. that are far superior in detail to our MR forums). I frequent different forums for different needs; MR mostly just to banter about the latest Apple gossip, if I really want detailed info, I go to [H], Anand, or ARS.
I find most of the people over there on [H], Anand, or ARS are more knowledgable than the people here. Of course, most of the PC people I know, including myself, know much more about computers, operating systems, and hardware than the typical Mac user.
Of course, Mac users don't build their systems from scratch, or anything else similar that you'd need that specific knowledge for.
Ooh...just found this thread. Honestly this is the least negative forum I have ever found. You have to keep in mind that there are asshats everywhere...in reality, on forums of all types, at work, at school, etc. There are many types of people. Nice helpful people, high-strung bitchy people, people who exist soley to piss on anything that pisses them off. I myself have been guilty of
A) Being waay too sensitive when someone gets attitudey (is that even a word? Call it another Jade-ism!)
B) Taking a bad day out on someone else by being negative just to boost my own ego
C) Caring waay too much what someone I don't even know is saying when it really and truly doesn't affect me in any way, shape or form.
I've also come to this conclusion. A lot of people take a difference of opinion from other people and get all bent out of shape over it. If we were all really nice easy-going types who never argued and instead just kissed each-others arses life would be sooo boring. Every broth needs a bit of flavoring added to it, be it tart, bitter, sweet, salty...
I'm getting carried away...somebody stop me!!!
I would like to end with just one piece of advice. Don't sweat the petty stuff. One person's snotty, negative or ignorant comments really doesn't mean as much as we would think. Everyone is different, their ways of communicating may contrast starkly with our own. That is what makes things "interesting", as frustrating as it may be at times. And the negative posts and such will only affect you as much as you let them. (I hope this makes some kind of sense!)
