Let's just wait and see what they say. We don't know what the dual camera is yet nor if it will have dual speakers etc etc

If they really do keep the same design for a 3rd generation for the first time in the history of the iPhone and people are not disappointed in that I really question if they are thinking clearly. I'm an apple fanboy, have been getting new iPhones every year (only skipped the 3G) and when the 6 Plus came out I was ready for a big phone, but thought the design was ugly. Bezels just too big and with the thinness of the device it was awkward in the hand and really demanded the use of the case. When the 6s Plus came out I crossed my fingers that they would do something about some of the bezel but I knew that the chances of that were pretty slim on an S upgrade.

Fast forward to now and all the rumors seem to point to it being the exact same design for a 3rd year. I honestly don't care what they do with the rest of the hardware/software features, the overall screen to chasis ratio and the feel in the hand is not worth it at all.

I bought a Note 7 and will use it for a year and see if apple can make me happy with the next phone.

I can't believe that Samsung wants me to get all new accessories and chargers just because they want to switch to USB-C. What's wrong with micro-USB. Now I got to carry around my own charging cables, or God forbid, micro-to-C adapters. The Horrors!

Why couldn't Samsung leave micro-USB alone. What if I need a charge when I'm at a bar and the bartender only has micro-USB chargers? What then?

Holy Hell. Samsung is so stupid.

/sarcasm

Funny how I don't hear as much griping when Samsung drops a standard port in favor of a better port. Apple still gets grief for dropping the 30-pin

In fairness, Samsung dropped a port that everyone knew had a shelf life for USB-C, which is about as future-proof as any small port could be right now and is industry standard. Everyone knows there will be a ton of USB-C peripherals, cables, etc. and there was a ton of excitement around that standard long before Samsung adopted it in the Note. Many of us would be thrilled if Apple jettisoned Lightning (good during its time, but proprietary and no better in any way than USB-C) for USB-C.

i hope my comment will be taken seriously, instead of being drowned by the sarcastic and negative comments populating this thread so far. gosh it's almost impossible to have a sane conversation about apple products anymore...

i'm curious to see what the "wow" factor will be with the coming iphone. what we know so far is the following (reliable rumors, nothing until the keynote is 100% sure):
- slightly redesigned case -> possibly thinner and lighter
- touch home button -> some added functionality we don't know yet?
- doubled capacity -> 32gb standard and up to 256gb possibly
- OIS camera for the 4,7", dual camera for the 5,5"
- faster A10 chip (lower power consumption thanks to finFET technology)
- faster lte: intel chip rumored to support 450mbps, not so important.
- true tone display like the 9,7" ipad pro, DCI-P3 gamut?
- no headphone jack -> wireless earpods as standard??

of all these, i honestly don't see what the wow factor is, except for the wireless earpods, which i highly doubt will be offered as standard.

in comparison, the 6->6s jump brought (only major hardware changes):
- revised case construction and material (bendgate)
- better rear camera 8->12mp
- better front camera, 5mp, with "retina flash"
- 3D touch
- faster chip
- doubled RAM
- faster touchID sensor

I don't currently have any plans to upgrade. But I feel confident that Apple will pull their usual trick of optimizing iOS 10 and the upgraded internals of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to work seamlessly and efficiently together and it will no doubt be impressive and work well. And people poke fun at the new emojis but there are going to be a lot of iMessage users who are going to be thrilled with them. If there are any display improvements to show those off, Apple will brag about them.

The iPhone cameras are already very good and any refinements will make them even better. The new rumored dual camera tech may very well be quite impressive. OIS possibly coming to the smaller iPhone would be a very welcome and overdue change.

I don't think the iPhone 7/7 Plus will be any more of a hard sell for them at the keynote than the 6S Plus was. They will reiterate all the cool new things iOS 10 can do and explain how the new processor will make all of this happen so much faster. And it will. iPhones are fast little buggers already and they're about to get even faster. Apple will market that hard.

I'm a bit put off that the dual camera won't be for the smaller iPhone but I understand if Apple is positioning the Plus sized iPhone to compete head on with Samsung's Note.

What it can't compete on is the additional functionality that the S Pen brings to the phablet category. Not everyone cares about that, not even most Android users. But for those of us who are looking for this very thing, it's indispensable and Apple can only compete on that level right now with the IPad Pro and the Apple Pencil. And right now that pairing is not as seamless and refined as it is on the Note 7. But it will be eventually, I am sure.

The plus model exists today to defend their weakness lack of confidence and damn innovation against big sized android(Samsung note series )they were not so confident with the 4.7inch model

Im not that negative towards it because i know it will still be a great upgrade.

Let me explain, now of course everyone uses their phone differently and has their own perspectives. I, for one, always use a case on my (apple leather case) so how the phone looks, i couldnt really care. But in saying that, i really hope they fix the bezels just slightly. I don't care about OLED or whatever, just make those bezels look smaller. The reason for this is, when i bought the 4.7" 6, i had a mini heart attack that i received the plus, because it looked massive compared to my 5s. When i used my mums 6 plus, i couldnt adapt to it at all. Then i see my friends galaxy phones with the equivalent size of a 6s plus, and its so much more easier to hold because of the shorter bezels. So thats one thing i care about as far as looks good, although the overall construction is a meh for me. Its a phone, i need it to do things. How it looks doesnt do anything for me. Just like a car will still get you from A>B whether you drive a hynundai or a roll royce, a phones looks doesnt dictate the way you need it to work.

As far as the internals go, its a given apple is going to change the camera, processor etc which is great, but i know deep down theres going to be something we don't know about! Either way, its going to be a good upgrade. The hate seems to be coming from a lot of yearly upgrades people. I know for a fact my brother and dad on their 5s's will definitely love their knew 7. I know i will :)

The surprise will be that the lightning dongle will be soldered to the logic board and not removable by the user.

Just went and looked at a note 7. The lack of bezels is awesome and I'm probably going to switch regardless of what Apple puts in camera wise in the iPhone 7. Maybe I'll come back for the 8 maybe not, maybe Samsung will convert me who knows. This is a scary time for Apple bc I feel a lot of people will defect to the note 7 this year and hopefully they come back if the 8 is a home run

Why do we want a redesigned phone?

Beef the processing power, use better quality materials for the screen and home button, improve the camera, put more features in the OS. This is what matters. Who cares if the phone looks he same for 5 years?

A lot of people, myself included. I've never had a issue with material quality on my home button, i'd rather not have them waste resources on "better materials" for things that don't need it.

I also left for the Note 7. I've owned every iPhone since the original and upgraded annually. The 6 design is a disgrace with those hideous antenna lines, 1980 bezels, and low resolution screen on the 6 (6 plus is ok). And for the 3rd year in a row so Apple can pad their GM'S since the sales are falling.

Maybe I'll be back next year, but until then I am loving my Note 7 even though I slightly miss iOS.

sound like me, i left briefly between the 5 and 5s for a galaxy 4 and ran back to the iPhone 5s but this time i think samsung might have finally got it right. gonna go back to verizon sometime this week and get the phone, going to spend the next few days setting up my google account, turning off iMessage and just preparing for the switch lol

The switch is hard but man the Note 7 is everything a phone in 2016 should be - High resolution AMOLED screen, slim bezels, wireless charging, and fast charging capable.

Little things like the back button are new to me. I prefer the swipe back method but I'm getting used to it. One look at the screen and the small bezels makes it impossible to go back to Apple's 2014 design which is arguably one of the worst looking iPhones to date.

I tried the S7 Edge this year because I changed carriers recently... had to buy a new phone and didn't want to get current iPhone.... was planning to come back to iOS in 2017. I'm really loving my S7 Edge now... so now I'm interested in what both Apple and Samsung brings us next year. I still use my 6+ and iPad daily... so I'm a fan of both platforms. If Apple has something awesome next year... I don't have a problem going back... but I don't issues staying with another Samsung phone either. :)

I just picked up a 2016 LG 65" OLED tv. Best thing I've ever done. Note 7 second best thing. The screens are sick!

People are only dissapointed due to the phone pretty much looking the same. I just hope the bottom of the phone is duel speakers.

I know the duel camera is going to be fantastic without a doubt. I'm interested with the home button and how that looks
