The difference between mono and stereo iPhone speakers is night and day. And yes anyone can tell. Whether they care is another matter.
The difference is night and day for people that can actually tell the difference, or care. This forum is not comprised of normal everyday users. Normal users won’t care. And you can bet Apple put at least some minimal effort into ensuring it doesn’t sound bad.

But again mostly irrelevant as headphones/airpods exist.

My wife is thinking about upgrading from 15 plus to either the 16 plus or the Air and has asked for my advice. My advice is to go for the Air She doesnt use the wide angle lens so wouldn't miss it and doesn’t look on paper that smaller than the plus.

I'm coming from an iPhone 14 pro max. I mostly use the main camera and I'm very glad you can take portrait pics with iPhone air. I was waiting for an iPhone that is lighter and thinner than my 14 Pro max.

So you just pulled it out your ass, great to know it held no weight.

But that's why you are surprised by us going from the Pro Max phones to the Air, you assume the generalisation you pulled out your ass is true without anything to support it.
I watch videos on my phone without headphones.

I listen to music on my phone without headphones.

I rarely play games on my phone, but when I do, it’s without headphones.

I take every single call on speaker phone because I live alone and it’s easier.

I only use my AirPods when I’m at work or walking outside.

I am going from iPhone 16 Pro to iPhone Air.

16 Pro currently, but I own the 16 Plus, and the 16. PM and the E are the only phones I do not have from the current line-up.

16 Plus: 6,69”
Air: 6,55”
17/17 Pro: 6,27”

The difference between the Air and the 17/17 Pro is exactly double that between the 16 Plus and the Air.

I'm stoked! I've had a new iPhone from the first, minus the 5S (that was the first year Cingular stopped subsidizing the cost)

Of course, I'd like weeks of battery and a dozen cameras.. but the sheer elegance has me. It's a phone. It has a nice camera. The battery is fine. It's resilient to scratches and scuffs. It's slim, light and beautiful.. I have no regrets at all, I'm glad for the simplicity and a capable gadget

Oh, I'm on the iPhone 16 Pro.. and I'm not going to go thicker and heavier this year. The Pro will feel like holding a man, the Air will feel like holding a slender woman of grace =) haha
