I have had a case for every iPhone I have had, just trying to protect it. Plus I know I drop my phones. To each there own.

But you can still have an accident wearing your seatbelt. Or crash on your bike wearing helmet. Helps protect you thou right?

James

yes, that is the point... if i knew that i were never going to crash i wouldn't wear a helmet.

a-doy-doy.

My 3G and 3GS had an incase slider. The rounded back made the films peel and never stick right. My 4 and 4S have a clear crystal film on the back. Some cheap $3.99 for pack of 2 from an online store. Same thing as the $20 dollar jobs at Apple and name brands. I use it to keep the back from getting scratched. It does it's job nicely. Other than that, nekkid. I of course don't put my phone screen down or in a pocket with lots of metal objects. I have common sense. I also don't baby it. I use it. My phones have always looked brand new when I go to sell them as well.

It's a beautiful phone - why hide it? Never understood people covering up such beauty. If it was a BB, then I would several cases on it :p

The only thing weirder than obsessing over what case to use is to obsess over what case a stranger should use.

I used to use invisible shields and cases and whatever else to protect my electronics. Then one day i realized that these aren't priceless artifacts, they're tools. And if a case/protector gets in the way of using a tool properly then it's ruining the tools purpose.

i used to go caseless with my iphone 4 because i never found a case i liked enough to buy. i found after about a year of wear and tear, the camera area got so scratched from just having it slide on a table that it blurred my pictures. luckily, apple replaced my phone because of a defective sleep button near the end of my warranty. but ever since, my gf has put a case on it

i wish i could go caseless still...but i use the camera enough for me to not want picture quality effected.

For the first year I used a case. Then it got kind of annoying and it wasn't until one day when I cleaned the case by taking the phone out did I realized how slim the phone is. Now I don't use a case, I'm just more careful.

How the hell do you guys do it? I see you people with your iPhones completely exposed. I'm sure you guys must be neat, non clumsy people that don't work as construction workers :) But some fool might just bump into and your iPhone will fall to the ground, and by the drop test videos the iPhone can't take much of a hit at waist high. So I'm wondering why don't you people protect your investment? are you guys that rich and just buy a new iPhone if you drop it, or you guys just want to show off your iPhone without a case and make the world know you have a iPhone and willing too risk it being dropped for a little glamour? I'm very curious

If the metal band is not that easy to be dented I will happily take off the thin case I currently use on the 4S...

Your gf has a pretty face, but she COVERS IT ALL UP to protect her skin or whatever. :(

iPhones with a case just don't look as cool.

I'll use the car analogy.

You don't wear a seat belt, doesn't mean you won't crash.

Even when you wear a seat belt, you could still die from crash.

I don't use cases and I have had an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

And yes, I both dropped them. I have had some slow-motion moments where I go "NOOOOOOOOOOOO.... !!" and than it falls on the ground. You can't move for a few seconds and than pick it up as if it were you baby, only to find out nothing is wrong.

Heck, my 1,5 year old iPhone 4 has survived a lot: once I had put in on my bed and than ten minutes later I forgot that. At that point I wanted to 'make up my bed' so I threw up the bedcloths and there it went: the iPhone 4 flew in the air, hit the ceiling, fell back on two metal bars, fell on the table and finally fell on the ground. Zero damage, except for a very small scratch on the back.

Usually I'm more careful, but sometimes these things just happen. If I accidently break it, I will go back to the T-Mobile shop (I live in the Netherlands) and they will repair it or give me instantly a new one because I've got a phone insurance (for about $9 a month). It's covered agains fall damage, water damage, theft, etc. - almost every situation you can think of, except for one thing: they won't cover a damaged phone that has been damaged by a nucleair bomb.

I hate it to put a nice phone in a case, but it's very understandable for those who don't want, or can't afford, a phone insurrance.

Well, but there is a different reason why you have to wear seatbelts. If you crash and you fly through the windshield than there's a huge economical impact (roads have to be closed, traffic rerouted and higher healthcare costs*).

* I don't know how it is exactly handled in the US with the healthcare costs if you crash a car, but in the Netherlands you only have to pay very little once you end up in a hospital. A lot is covered: either by your insurrance or the State.

ROFL... so true :p

I'd say I'm more like Will Smith at the 2:02-2:04 mark when that happens to me though ;)

Forget the "beauty", and "feel" of the naked phone I actually have a girlfriend for that.
I'm a skateboarder, with a $600 completely glass phone...its going in a case.

With AppleCare+, I no longer care about using a case. If I shatter it, I'll just to swap it out for $49. If I do it 3 times, then I'd better re-evaluate how I carry things in general...

And for me? I have applecare+, but I don't want to have to go to the Apple store to replace my phone. I don't want to deal with not having a phone until I can stop everything and go get it replaced. No thanks.

I hate cases and I can afford to replace or repair it if I break it. So I don't use one. If it would be a serious hardship for me to replace it, I'd probably use a case. I'm on my 4th iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4, 4s), I've used all of them case-free, and none of them have ever been damaged by a drop.

Although I do have to admit that I did get lucky once. I put my iPhone 4 on a corian sink that wasn't perfectly level, and the phone was so smooth and slippery that it slowly slid off the side of the sink onto a hard tile floor. Luckily it landed perfectly flat and wasn't damaged at all. It sounded horrible though haha

With my previous iPhones I didn't like using any cases or bumpers. I dropped my 4 a couple times and it dinged up the edge around the front glass. Ever since i've gotten the 4S i'm using a case so that it doesn't get damaged

I agree with this statement.

Just ordered me an Otterbox Defender because I realized I can't do this whole naked iPhone thing. Winters in the Chi are brutal and walking downtown to and from work without a case could lead to potential accident. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

My Analogy on it...

Putting a case on an iPhone is like wearing a condom during lovemaking - it is the smart thing to do, but it takes away from the true experience and the natural beauty of the whole thing. :D

It's all personal preference really, to each their own. What fun would the world be if there was no diversity, skins/cases/bumpers/naked all make it happen.

The design is too nice to be covered up. I only use a screen shield to prevent scratches on the front and back. I think the iPhone 4/4S is truly a world class design and covering it up makes it look like any other phone without seeing the metal bands. Also, 90% of the cases don't allow my headphones to be fully plugged in.

I like the way the phone feels in my hands and pockets without a case. I have the iPhone 4 right now, but when I upgrade to the next generation I'll just get AppleCare+. I'd much rather pay $100 for the peace of mind while being able to go without a case.

This. I got Best Buy's protection plan (15.99 a month, no deductible) for my 4 and my 4S. It's one of the main reasons I buy my iPhones at Best Buy.

I dropped my 4 twice and BB replaced them both in a pretty timely manner. The good thing is that there isn't a limit. I can drop my phone every month and get a replacement. I honestly feel it's better than AppleCare+.

Naked for life.

I bounce back and forth between both. Caseless iPhone 4S with belt clip holster and otterbox.

I enjoy iPhone most without a case. It really depends though. Even with otterbox as far as I can recall I've only dropped the phone once and that was on carpet. By nature I'm more free with it when I have the otterbox on though.

On the professional side I don't see the need for a case. On the other side I have 3 little kids and live a very active lifestyle.

On the flip though I used the iPhone 4 caseless over a year and not a scratch. Then in one incident I broke it.. I fixed myself for less than otterbox costs retail though, so.. Just depends.
