I'll add....

The add only problem I had was with my 3GS.

It was on the arm of my sofa whilst watching TV one night, and I knocked it off. Unfortunately it fell the wrong way and fell back first onto the slate harth of the fireplace.

Only a minor abrasion as was only a foot or do drop. But as it was plastic, a bit of black T-Cut I use on the car sorted it out no problem.

Anyone wandering, I have since moved the sofa do this can not happen to my 4S! :)

You don't need a case. I know many people who don't use cases and their devices are fine. And they aren't particularly careful either.

The problem is that most people on the forums are anal about a scratch or two on their phone, and they are making you feel anal about it too :p

I've dropped my no case iPhone 4 on the concrete while getting out of my car, it didn't break but did get a few scratches.

In contrast, my friend dropped his iPhone 4 that was in an incase slider case and due to the way it hit the edge of his desk, the screen shattered.

I like having no case and will deal with it if/when it breaks.

Idk where you live but here it's required by the law
For driving, yes, for cycling (bicycle) no.

But you can still have an accident wearing your seatbelt. Or crash on your bike wearing helmet. Helps protect you thou right?

James
Indeed. I'm a damned good driver (professionally trained, to an extent), and a VERY good cyclist. I've been hit in my car, and yes, crashed on my bike.
Accidents happen. I take precautions.

I used the PowerSupport case because it's the only one I have found that is as close to the actual size of the phone without adding bulk. Great feel but my only complaint is that I dont think it would do well if it dropped and landed on it's face....the sides dont come above the glass.

How the hell do you guys do it? I see you people with your iPhones completely exposed. I'm sure you guys most be neat, non clumsy people that don't work as construction workers :) But some fool might just bump into and your iPhone will fall to the ground, and by the drop test videos the iPhone can't take much of a hit at waist high. So I'm wondering why don't you people protect your investment? are you guys that rich and just buy a new iPhone if you drop it, or you guys just want to show off your iPhone without a case and make the world know you have a iPhone and willing too risk it being dropped for a little glamour? I'm very curious

I don't care about showing off that I have an iPhone, and no one cares that I have one. One of the reasons that I like the iPhone is the way that it looks and the way that it feels in my hand. I used to use a case with my 3G until I realized that I was negating part of the reason that I bought it: I wasn't enjoying the beauty of its design. I took off the case from the 3G one day, and I've remained so with my 4s. Even the thin cases take away from the design for me.

I envy the look and feel of the naked phone when I see other people using them out in the city... but a lot of the time I get a little closer and see a smashed screen, so.

I'll deal with my speck candyshell to enjoy my undamaged phone, especially because I paid $900+ and I want a good chunk of that money back when I upgrade to the next iPhone.

Actually, I am a construction worker. I use a leather slip case on construction sites, but carry my phone case-less otherwise. In over four years of iPhone ownership I have never needed a repair or replacement.

Since my first gen I have always had a case. Because in the last 4 years with a case I've never dropped any of my iPhones (other than one time when one was knocked out of my hands) I decided with my new 4s I would go naked, only with Invisishield.
Yesterday as I was walking into Trader Joe's, I dropped my new, 4 day old, mostly naked 4S! Didnt get a scratch, but as soon as I got home I suited it up..

LOL. Maybe I'm crazy. But, it's just a phone. I'm not going to worry about it or spend money on a case for it that it's purpose is to hide the phone's design that I like so much. I have AppleCare+ (ST before), that's my "case". I've never had a case since my 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 and now my 4S.

I don't like to cover the beautiful phone with an ugly case. The most I use is a sleeve. I have dropped my phone from waist high onto concrete more than once and no scratches appeared at all. Guess I'm just lucky. Also, I am extremely careful with my phone.

Why go on about how beautifully the iPhone design is, then cover it up with a case?

I have a simple philosophy, it's a very expensive devise and I'm very careful with it.

I used to have a nice Speck case on it, but eventually decided i just like the naked look better. So far so good. Knock on wood.

I go through cell phones fairly quickly (tech junkie), so I use a case to try and keep my phones fairly pristine so I can sell it with relative ease using the tag "like new".

The other reason I use a case is not because I drop phones, or damage them when I place them on hard surfaces, but because I tend to scratch the crap out of them in my pocket (Phone + Change + keys, etc etc can scratch a phone pretty good). I do my best to keep my phone separated from the other stuff I carry, but it's not always possible.

Yeah that's why I keep my phone always in my right pocket, and keys/change in my left. I'm paranoid about that, though.

Actually, it's all about ORM. Hold the phone firmly, and keep an eye out for potential situations that you might get bumped, and you're ok. Keep your phone in it's own pocket, with nothing else, and minimize the potential for scratches. It's all about being careful, and constantly aware of your surroundings. In other words, never text, surf, app, or talk while driving, walking, or any other time that you might not pay attention to what is going on around you, and your phone should be just fine without protection.

same here ! I like the feel of the phone without a case so I always keep a hard grip on the phone and I don't put it in the same pocket as my key ! ahahah

and funny fact, the one and only time I dropped my iphone in 2 years was the only day I used a case !

I use a skin and don't consider this "crazy" at all.

I don't see the point in hiding the design.

If I drop it and the front or back gets smashed, I can order the replacement part online for less than $50.

I will, say, though, that I am considering putting some sort of skin, perhaps a carbon-fiber one, on the back of my 4S because the thing is so damned slippery. More than once I've placed it on a slight slope to find it sliding, not to mention when the phone vibrates across a table...
