Their reluctance is that they already did that for a week. These are the customers that didn’t come in for a week (And were informed that they needed to come pick up their devices.) Should Apple Pay employees to sit around in the store and wait for these 10 people to maybe show up for the next month? On one hand, kudos to Apple for closing their stores. It's the responsible thing to do.
On the other hand, social distancing efforts do not preclude brief interactions such as customers coming into a store in limited numbers to pick up a device. Not sure I understand Apple's reluctance in that regard.
So because Gamestop sells keyboards they are now essential? Nope.
You know, I was reading about Gamestop's position yesterday. My view is that they are not an essential business, however, given peoples need to be home, the lack of reading in todays society, and the addiction to video games today I can see their argument.
I don't consider liquor stores a necessity either. However, can you imagine if the millions of alcoholics suddenly had no access to hard liquor? They certainly don't require liquor stores for disinfecting supplies.
This essential/non-essential process is very difficult during this crisis.![]()
Fun bit of trivia, at least here in Ohio, key holders are quitting and not coming in at this point. Myself and the other key holders at my store are quitting today, which will force a shut down of our store.

I am sure there will be people "renting" machines in the manner you suggest. On the flip side, order a new device now and you have 14 days starting from when the stores re-open to return it for a full refund. This might be months away here in Europe!
People need to chill out. Apple is doing what WE ALL SHOULD BE DOING. Your device will be fine. Read a book.
"We made every possible attempt to get people's products back to them," an Apple spokesperson said. "There certainly are people that, for whatever reason, did not pick up their products before we closed and their products are at our stores."
The online store and the physical store are not the same thing. If no one is there at Apple then how are they coordinating and shipping new 2020 Macbook Air and iPad Pro to customers? You think AI or robots?
Well this makes me feel better. Totally understandable they need more time. I just hope if they can’t fix it, they contact me to send it back so I can still use it.I’m a former genius and have friends still working there. They stayed for a few days after initial closures to finish any in-store repairs and get machines back to customers. Some customers decided to not respond to email and phone calls or come in at their pickup time. Tough ****.

Or, as people were advised of the extraordinary situation with time being of the essence when leaving their product off for repair, could take and make it their responsibility to pick up their repaired item when notified it was ready. Or make alternate arrangements.
At some point people, assuming they're adults, have to take responsibility for their actions, and more importantly, their inactions.
The online store and the physical store are not the same thing.
If your computer is your livelihood and maybe even how you make money, you should just you know. Open a book. DuhPeople need to chill out. Apple is doing what WE ALL SHOULD BE DOING. Your device will be fine. Read a book.
But it's so much easier for some to blame Apple for everything ;-)
That wouldn’t be wise and would expose Apple’s employees. On one hand, kudos to Apple for closing their stores. It's the responsible thing to do.

There are people working and studying with those devices...People need to chill out. Apple is doing what WE ALL SHOULD BE DOING. Your device will be fine. Read a book.

stores stayed open for 3 days fixing all machines and calling all customers to come pick up their machines. not Apple's fault people didn't come get their ****. next time, they should just leave their machines outside the store for people to come pick up at their connivence.Clearly you don't work for a living.
