Hmm, no unlock request necessary for me at ATT, purchased my gsm iphone from Apple sim free - Verizon would not accept the phone..

Well obviously no unlock requests if you're buying the SIM-Free UNLOCKED iPhone. But not everybody pays full price for a phone. Therefore if you buy a subsidized iPhone from ATT then it will be locked. If you buy subsidized iPhones from Verizon they are unlocked out of the box. Also, the SIM-Free is the same model as the ones Sprint and Verizon sell so it's already whitelisted.

Right, I understand that, but the fact remains that verizon will not accept issuing any contracts for sim free phones unless it is a verizon phone subject to verizon's international plan and rates.

Already bought the iphone, tried signing up with verizon - no go, went to ATT.

So to stay on topic...

I'm surprised by the poll results so far. AT&T has more than the other big 3 combined. I was not expecting this.

I was expecting something like:

ATT - 35%
VZW - 30%
TMO - 20%
SPRINT -10%
OTHER - 5%

Obviously because this is an iPhone board and iPhone was exclusive to ATT for years and chances are the mass amount of people gathered here stayed with the same initial carrier so its concentrated.

ATT is also still the best overall up until even today so it makes sense to stick with them and not bother switching around.

Yes you can't sign up with new Verizon service on an AT&T iPhone (though if you already have a Verizon SIM card it will work in an unlocked iPhone 6). You're wrong about the international part. I could buy a subsidized device right now from Verizon and go into another country and just pop in a local SIM card. No contacting Verizon or requesting of unlocks necessary. I don't even have to pay full price upfront from Apple. The subsidized Verizon iPhone is already GSM unlocked for worldwide use.

When we go to the us we us t-mobile. Where we go we get better coverage than att, faster download speeds and att service is horrible as far as I am concerned. The price is also better so I see no reason to change.

Switched from Verizon to AT&T about a year and a half ago, much better Data speeds. T-Mobile is great I just don't have the coverage in the areas I travel in.

I like T-mobile's initiatives, but coverage is the most important factor when using a phone. It doesn't matter if they give you unlimited voice / sms / data for free if it doesn't work in places where you regularly go.

T-Mobile family plan. Their coverage areas have been exploding and they are supposed to get even better throughout 2015.

Also, I really enjoy wifi calling because I do frequent areas that don't get coverage from any carrier and wifi is available there.

I left Sprint after about 6 years and the highest was able to ever get was 24 Mbps down and that was once LTE hit my area 2 years ago that means for 4 years I was dealing with .50 -1.5mpbs download speeds on a good day and paying 200$+ for 3 lines of service. So I made the move to T-Mobile and it was the best decision I have ever made with a cellphone provider I'm now getting 40+ Mbps down almost consistently and I'm already eligible for an upgrade with their jump program after just buying my phone 3 months ago and I pay 112- not including my discount for Unlimited everything. I'm happy and think T-Mobile is definitely the future IMO. Also I found it funny how right after T-Mobile announced the data stash program ATT thought it was a good idea and jumped on board. Funny how that works.

I work for a company which is (tangentially) associated with a second-tier provider, so we get decent discounts for that provider.

However, I do a lot of traveling around the US for hobby-related stuff. That stuff more-or-less requires me to always have the capability to tether, and I can only really trust either AT&T or Verizon to have consistent service in every metro area I go to.

Past that, it just turned into inertia. Most of my family had been on AT&T in the past, so when we merged, we all merged onto one of those plans. I take care of most of the data (on a event-heavy month, I'm using ~50gb - the flexed-data change really helps on my end) and they take care of most of the rest.

We can settle the fact that Tmobile doesnt have the coverage of ATT or VZW but they have improved dramatically and rapidly. It can only get better. For Google to work with TMO or Sprint shows that somehow they will offer something good or why risk it.

The best by what metric? Verizon is better in coverage and data speeds, the second tier carriers T-Mobile and Sprint are better in price/features. They were just the first ones with the iPhone, that's all.

Was on verizon switched to AT&T not happy with the decision.
Have way more dead spots on att walk into a bldg and forget it.

I'm in the Tampa area. I thought verizon was better. May go back tired of fighting for a signal in my gym all the time. Never had that problem on verizon

I'm on sprint since the 4S. Totally regretted it, was going to switch but sprint really improved in NYC, now with band 41 I'm getting great speeds and good coverage indoors. Cant talk a bout other markets, but Sprint is good in NYC, comparable to the other 3.

All lines now on Verizon. As an aside, I still have my unlimited iPad plan with at&t

My line - Verizon, wife's line - AT&T. Where we live in the midwest my Verizon is slightly better but still enjoy having both when we travel.

Yep. When the iPhone 4 came out, AT&T was the only carrier, so I had to choose them, and have stuck with them since.

There are good reason to go with almost every carrier. I have Verizon and AT&T. I am in the outdoors hiking and 4x4 offroading and need to have a signal. For me Verizon has a signal where no one else does. I have been fishing on a lake in the forest and can get texts. Neither AT&T or TMO has been able to keep up with Verizon like that.
But if you just live in metro areas....I think TMO is the way to go. I would love to have roll over data!!!

Honestly AT&T here... as it is the most reliable in all the areas that we go to fairly often.

Verizon cuts in and out, especially in rural areas on occasions...

T-Mo is nothing but EDGE once you leave town until you get to the next closest city... Unless you're on the interstate.

Sprint see Verizon but with barely useable data.
