OK so most all of the towers are VoLTE enabled?

I have been with T-Mobile for over 10 years now. That is one reason why my first iphone is a 6+. This is the first phone that has full compatibility with T-Mobile's network. The iphone6+ though is not as compatible with my Acura MDX as my SGS5 was. But I am learning to use Hey Siri now and so I am getting my hand free receive and send text back.
T-Mobile is good in the twin cities area, but still is not good outside the cities. It needs to expand its LTE coverage. Travelling by road from Minneapolis to Chicago, T-Mobile has less than 90% LTE coverage.

What do you mean by the iPhone 6+ being fully compatible with T-Mobiles network? What was different before?
T-Mobile has been rolling out LTE band 12 which the iPhone 6+ doesn't support.
Welcome back! I believe VoLTE is nationwide for Verizon and T-Mobile. AT&T is rolling it out market by market. Although I have yet to make an HD call on either Verizon or AT&T (they are not yet interoperable, and many people I know with Verizon or AT&T don't have VoLTE-capable devices) I have definitely taken calls while the phone remains data-capable on LTE.
With AT&T it is automatic, but with Verizon you need to activate HD Voice (Advanced Calling 1.0) on MyVerizon to enable VoLTE. Also make sure that you have LTE activated for voice and data on your phone. On the iPhone there is a setting for that under Cellular. I'm not sure how it works on the Moto X but I would think that it is VoLTE-capable.
Wi-Fi calling. The 6 series is the first time that allows Wi-Fi calling. Blackberry always had it, later Android. The other feature I wanted was a third party keyboard such as Swpe. Since the iPhone had both of these, I switched from the SGS5. Unlike the SGS5, the iPhone 6+ is not water proof, but I can live with that.
OK great, so I just need my Moto X 2014 to get VoLTE capabilities.
Yeah, did that for the iPhones.
No it is not yet. The Droid Turbo is but is not on Lollipop yet. The Moto X got Lollipop but not VoLTE yet.
Have been a Sprint customer for 8 years and am probably one of the very few who is more or less satisfied. With my 4S, I've gotten great reception in town & even on vacation in various spots. Now I've never run a speed test, so I can't speak to how fast/slow the network is. Facebook, email, random web browsing and uploading/downloading pics to/from dropbox has never struck me as absurdly slow though. The only thing I can speak to is the 4G performance on my 6 which is underwhelming for the most part (but then again, it's Sprint, so go figure).
Otherwise, I've still got a great plan (the now-discontinued 'Everything Data 450' with unlimited everything) w/a discount from work tacked on that, from a price standpoint, beats whatever I could get from AT&T or Verizon.

I am surprised to see that the percentage of iPhone users on Verizon is so small. The advantage that AT-T&T got as a first mover in the initial years has carried forward. T-mobile is 4 times that of Sprint. I expect T-mobile to become larger than Sprint some time this year. Verizon due to its much higher premium might lose customers if other providers improve their coverage.

I like knowing that I'll have fast LTE almost everywhere and inside just about every building. Unlocked phones right out of the box which gives them great resale value. Unlimited data is a nice touch too.
What I think about the others:
T-Mobile - good promotions, good data service if you mostly stay in your metro. Terrible in rural areas and on interstates between cities. Lower price isn't worth 'E', 'GPRS', or 'No Service'
Sprint - terrible on all accounts. Usually the slowest network even in cities. Locked down phones, poor rural data coverage just like TMO.
AT&T - Competent network. Not quite as expansive as Verizon but overall somewhat tolerable, especially in the Northeast, not as much in the South. Doesn't offer a real unlimited data plan though.

ATT not as much in the South? Generalize much? HAHAHA I live in SOUTH FLORIDA and ATT is fantastic.
I've got T-Mobile as my primary and an AT&T Go Phone when I leave my work and home areas to the country side.
That depends on a couple things: where you are, and where you plan to be. You want to register with a carrier that provides good enough service around home and on vaca.

T-Mobile for me. Been on the $30 5GB for just over two years. Coverage is good for me in Austin. Just switched to the 6+ from a Nexus 4, and service and coverage is much improved with the 6+.
I use an AT&T iPad as a coverage fill in when traveling. Start month or so plan before I leave, and using Google Voice as my primary #, keeps me connected about as well as possible

Currently with ATT only thing that bothers me is the lack of unlimited data like T-mobile offers. Although my area T-mobile is close to Verizon outside but still lacks penetration into buildings. I'd switch but still waiting to see what ATT will do as far as other Uncarrier moves starts rolling out.
Verizon iPhones have had GSM radios since the iP4s. The Verizon iP4s even comes with a SIM card. You can get a Verizon iP4s unlocked for international GSM use just by asking Verizon.
The Verizon iP5/5s and iP6/6+ are GSM SIM unlocked out of the box. IIRC, the iP5 didn't have all of the bands the iP5s does. But the Verizon iP6/6+ is identical to the AT&T the difference being that the Verizon iP6/6+ is GSM SIM unlocked out of the box.
All of the newer Verizon androids have GSM radios, too and are GSM SIM unlocked out of the box.
Don't think it's the same as ATT , as asking Verizon for international service overseas still locks you into Verizon overseas service with really high rates.
You cannot take a verizon phone overseas and use overseas services or other sim card carriers, so not quite unlocked.
Actually you can. The Verizon iPhones are actually better because they're GSM unlocked right out of the box. No requesting unlocks necessary like AT&T. You can swap SIM cards in any country with modern Verizon iPhones these days straight out of the box.
Hmm, no unlock request necessary for me at ATT, purchased my gsm iphone from Apple sim free - Verizon would not accept the phone..
