People who touch your screens

All my office staff know how much it bugs me to have the screen touched (as mentioned in this post earlier) - and so the other day, one of the guys licked his finger, and wiped it on my screen.

I think my face looked like this

But I work at a church, so I had to hold my tongue! :p

i can't stand it when people touch my screen, should get a ruler and smack them with it when they do :)

I hate this also!!!!

Worst thing is when i have my supervisor with a pen near my screen. I get this awful feeling in my stomach.

I think i'm being realistic in saying i could coldheartedly smack someone touching my screen with a shovel on the back of the head!

But what REALLY sets me on fire is people dropping dirt on it! I don't even let others use my MBP in the first place, but few of my friends got to use it and one of them was dropping food crumbles while using it! I may be a bit anal about these, but i keep my MBP 100% clean, maybe that's why i don't tolerate stuff! I mean...when this happened i said in a very mild friendly tone : "Mate, please promise this was the last time you'd dropped any crumbles or anything on the MBP! " Deep down inside i was saying " Don't let me catch you being within 3ft or nearer to the MBP, or I'm gonna kill you and burn your body " or...something like this..:D

I just don't like to see my MBP look like sort of " used " I like it clean and mint!

This really grinds my gears! Anyone touches/tries to touch/almost touches/raises an arm too quickly within 5 feet of my MacBook Pro, they get what I believe to be a built in, pre wired, instinctive neandrothol reaction that results in my mouth opening and shouting... "Don't.. touch my screen!!!!!!"
I emphasise the "Don't" at the start which is said loud and quickly. If they need reminding again, they get reminded with physical contact.

It works for me.

Lets keep our :apple: MBPs and :apple: MBs free of "touchers"...

I have always wondered why people can't point without physically touching the screen. Drives me crazy.

I hate when people touch my screen, but a couple times i've intended to simply point and my finger went a little too far and touched. My depth perception or something must suck, i always apologize when this happens though.

Not about touching an LCD... But since we're on the topic of people mistreating our laptops...

I once had a teacher walk over in order to look at something on my MBP screen in class. I was sitting in a chair with my MBP on the table in front of me, she was standing. In order to get a better viewing angle at the screen she grabbed the top of the screen and opened it as wide as possible... apparently that wasn't enough. Even though the screen wouldn't hinge open any further she kept trying to "slam" it back. I thought she was going break it off.

It happened so fast that I didn't realize what she was going to do until it was too late. Luckily it didn't break.

This happened to me too!!! My freakin' roommate attempted to view whatever was on my baby and bend my screen back... I was really gonna chop those fingers off!!! And I as well do not appreciate people poking at my screen. Never... ever... touch the screen!

smudges are fine, you can gently clean them off. I'm more worried about the actual physical damage...if any...i should be worrying about.
Yeah, too much pressure can cause what look like blemishes (dark spots) on the screen. Not a good sight.

I work in the I.T maintenance industry (mainly for pc's) but love using my macbook in the office. Sure enough other managers feel the need to squash their dirty greasy fingers on the screen.
when they start to lift their hands i know to yell at them to stop before they even *think* of touching the display but one chap couldnt resist in smearing his fingers all over the screen.
Needless to say after I had given the screen a good clean with iclear I duly visited his desk with a couple of grapes and proceeded to squash them all over his nice 19" sony LCD.
A true story :D

Whenever I present to a client, I have a little laser pointer that I carry in my bag that I break out and explain that if they want to talk about something on the screen, use the pointer. Plus I make sure they don't get within 2-3 feet of the computer. Might seem a little anal, but my last 3 notebook screens have never been touched by anyone but me. Staff in the office just know not to touch my screen under penalty of smashed fingers.:p

i was about to kill my friend when he was going to touch my macbook screen when i do by accident i get the soft cloth out and like clean the hole screen i usually do it when i use my macbook lots but i dont use it as much

just if u said "you know what grinds my gears"

I just yell "don't touch the screen!" and grab their arm if I have to.

People use biros as pointers for God's sake and then poke your screen with them!

Most people I work with are getting the message and keeping half an inch off the screen when pointing at things.

I don't care what they think of me, it is unacceptable to risk damage to someone's really expensive screen.

Sometimes when I'm showing someone something on my laptop they point to something (and its usually quicker or unsuspected that I can't stop them) and they touch the screen. I typically just rub gently with the cleaning cloth that came with my ACD and its good as new.

However, my question comes in terms of pressure. I'm assuming as a consumer product that the screens can withstand some pretty good pressure. Not sustained of course, but I'm assuming you can accidentally press into it (mishap with depth perception, etc.) and it would be fine?

I haven't noticed any damage from people doing this, and its only happened a couple of times  but I'm beginning to think I'm going to be "that guy" and bluntly say "use the mouse, just don't touch the screen." Which you would think would be easy to say....but when it'll easily be heard by 6 other people, it can sometimes be a little awkward.

If you want some real fun, try being a drummer at a party. Every drunk moron in the place thinks he's John Bonham and can play the drums with his hands. His, yes....never once had a problem with a woman! Telling people what they can do with themselves using an iron rod eventually became second nature, so keeping people away from the screen is a piece of cake. At least they're generally not wasted when standing around the computer!

I always touch my own screen... It's a horrible habit, and looks horrid when the screen is off. I've been trying to break the habit, but to no avail :(

I hate that people that I just wish I can cut their fingers with a knife I hate people touching my computer anyways....

i just had it happen to me. the culprit is sitting right next to me, but i already scolded her.

it's ironic that i was reading this thread earlier today and this exact thing happens to me several hours later.

my dad does that, it really bugs me. and he like jabs it too. and whats ironic is that when he shows me something on his computer, and i accidentally do it, he tells me not to

My cousine has a round white mark from rubbing the screen of his MacBook Pro a little too hard. Unreversable and out of warranty so its a permenant fixture and the worse part of it is that it was his own finger print that he was rubbing away.

So I don't fall victim to the same issue I want to buy a pack of wipes (or something similar). Does anyone have an suggestions?

Y'know what annoys me? People who go nuts when someone touches their screen.

No offense. :p

Yeah I'm with you. I would never have guessed so many people would get all crazed over this. It's actually a little disturbing to me when somebody is really obsessive over stuff like computer screens or the backs of shiny-case iPods or detailing their cars back to showroom state every weekend, etc.

To me computers and iPods and cars are all just tools, the same as a hammer or a screwdriver. I don't let carpentry tools get rusty but I don't worry if they get a little paint on them or some scratches. Battle scars just mean the thing works great and you're getting your money's worth out of it.

Well it takes all kinds to make the world stay in orbit... ;)
