I think 5 years is more than enough staring at basically the same bloody screen, which is unchanged for iOS6. My 4s will be sold in the next month, but instead of my annual ritual of queing up as an iSheep for Apples latest offering i'll be giving it a miss this year. I think ill give the new galaxy Note 2 a try.

Wow, were you best buds w/ SJ or something? How on earth have you been staring at the same screen for 5 years? Oh.....you never upgraded from the first iPhone? You really should consider a new phone you know....

Most likely, although I'll just need the reassurance after I see the model itself on the site. I'll sell my current 4S just to cover the cost so it's not as if I'll be forking over much of any money at this point.

So many people at the S generation

I think it's better to stay with the even generations (iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, etc). Before you upgrade, you'll only be a tiny bit behind people with the S model who just have some useless hardware improvements. If you stay on the S models, before you upgrade, everyone else who has upgraded will have a majorly improved phone.

P.S. What is wrong with my avatar? I set it to the USS Enterprise, and I got a stretched version of my old avatar. That is my dog, by the way.

If the iPhone 5 will be the same thing but just bigger screen size, I might aswell just get an s3. I've had an iPhone since the first one and sick of the same UI, theme, and multitasking design. I have an iPad, Mac, but I think its time to change.
The only thing I'll probably miss is iCloud.

I'll be sticking with my 4S as I'm under contract. I sold my iPhone 4, SIM free, just under two months ago and took out the contract for a 4S. I knew what I was doing when I took out the contract, so have no regrets and the 4S is noticeably smoother than the 4 in terms of the UI animations and loading speeds.

I know about the yearly cycles, knew the new iPhone was coming in September/October. When I look at the latest apps coming out, you can't help but notice that most of the games have very little optimisations for the 4S over the 4. In fact, only recently with Horn have you seen significant improvements in a title when comparing the 4 and 4S

I don't feel that the dual core A5 has been anywhere near pushed to its limit, so at this stage the 4S has far more juice left in it than the 4 did at this stage in its life-cycle last year.

iOS 6 screams on the 4S on the current beta, there's no sign of the (infamous) Apple slowdown of the outgoing model.

I'll get the "S" version of the new iPhone next time round on my upgrade.

I am happy with my 4s. So I will be sticking to it. I am in a position to upgrade to a new phone in December. However due to the fact that iOS 6 is fully supported on the 4s I have no reason to change phones. Also LTE won't be fully available in my country till at least end of 2013. So no need for me to upgrade even for LTE yet. Plus I love the size of my current iPhone as it is. So I am happy to keep to my 4s.

I bailed and went with the S3 for this round. It'll be here today or on Tuesday. I really want a wider phone, and of course something new, which to me, the "long" iPhone is not.

I've had every iPhone, first day since 07, and I'll be back when they get wider, which WILL eventually happen after two possible releases of 'long'..

I happen to be one of the people who own the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4S. Let's see if the 6th generation iPhone is worth it.

Not a chance. And I've owned _every_ iPhone to date.

A few millimeters taller, a few millimeters thinner,

A minimal change in display height,

A few more features... all add up to a rather warmed over phone.

You aren't serious are you? The changes in this iPhone are way greater then that of the 4s, as it is rumored to get LTE, screen bump (first in five generations) a completely new dock connector, and a slight chance at NFC. What did the 4s get again? Faux "4G", a camera spec bump, and ... Siri? I just don't see why some think going from the 4 to 4s was a better upgrade then going from 4s to 6, with huge changes

No chance, I'm on the S cycle (3GS & 4S) so I get the best version of each major iPhone revision.

I wish I was on that cycle, because with the "S" there are cases out for them already. Depending what the 5 offers, I might wait. I like I am not on a contract anymore and my 4 works great still.

I am constantly squinting when using my phone, if it just has a lil bigger screen and better specs, I might aswell just get a different phone or stick with the 4s for awhile. I've only had it for about 9 months (got it late december).

What are you going to do?

Surely going to get one if it beats the competitors in the market.. its been a long wait since Apple released a real upgrade - the last one being 4S after iPhone 4!

So, if this one isn't big, Apple's gonna lose quite a lot of followers

You can put widgets, but since most of them are useless to me and my android screen looks the same wall of icons, i am getting bored by it too lol. I am waiting for a Lumia 920 or ATIV S to drop so i can get something more refreshing.

And yeah, i am not bothered by the tiles, i hated it before but they actually look brilliant on my Windows 8 evaluation build running on the laptop. Also a bit more productive. And the app UI is stunning.

What are you going to do?

If the rumor is true that the screen will have a resolution of 1152x640, then I will not get the next iPhone. (I want a phone with a 1280x720 screen resolution) So I will probably sell my 4S and get either a Sony Xperia S, an HTC One X, a Samsung Galaxy S III... I haven't decided yet.

I have my 4S and its ok, but then I play with my buddies Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean and I really wish I had widgets, or at least the dot unlock (I know I can JB but last time I tried it bricked my 3GS).

I won't be going to Android yet, I am going to give them this phone, and then the S version next year, when I am out of contract. I love icloud, I love the ecosystem, but the messages app needs updating for easier editing, maybe even quick reply. I want a variety of security functions such as folder locking, or non-lockpad type security. I have about 30-40 bucks worth of apps, so leaving will piss me off, but if I ever did, I would prob leave for a product that gets direct updates from Google, like the iPhone does with Apple...no carrier bloatware

I still have high hopes for this iPhone and the next, because I love my phone, but it doesn't mean I can't want some improvements.

The major processing and memory upgrades were done on the 3GS and 4S. I'm rather happy with my 4S, and I won't be giving it up anytime soon. Yes, there are times that I look at the RAZR MAXX (not an option anyways since it's Verizon) or the SGSIII, and I am envious, but then I realize that the Lifeproof case and the iPhone 4S are a killer combination, and in the vast majority of places that I go, they are more than good enough for what I need. If I ever want to give up the Lifeproof case, I can get more battery on the iPhone with a Mophie anyways, without having to go to the one of the mega-Android devices.

the only things i'm looking for in a new phone is lte and improved battery life. if the new iphone hits on both counts, i'll be getting one for sure.

We''ll see. 2yrs since the 4 was released and the revolutionary feat of the next itineration is the same design with an extra .25inches on either side. Not optimistic.
