I don't think being an audiophile (or videophile) is defined by the amount of money you spend on equipment. Someone who makes $35,000 a year will never buy a $10,000 amp. If they appreciate accurate, high fidelity reproduction of sound and buy the best equipment to suit that purpose that is in their budget, does that not make them an audiophile? To me, an audiophile is someone who spends their $300 on the best stereo speaker set up they can afford and a quality used receiver instead of buying the sleek, sexy sound bar that the blue shirt at best buy recommended because they value sound above all else when purchasing sound equipment. Saying an audiophile is defined by you spending large sums of cash is like saying you aren't a car enthusiast if you don't own a $500,000 super car.
