That's probably it. I told you I'm tired. LOL

The replacement is now showing up on my order status tracking page, with a ship date of April 4 and delivery April 5! The confirmation email I got after replying said that might happen and to ignore the date, but yikes! That would really suck! I still want to know where these replacements (exact color and size) are coming from with the pre-order units being sold out, unless they're just not engraving the ones we originally ordered, but then why say we'll still get the engraved ones on Tuesday? I hope they don't charge me twice. I don't have that kind of money.

Don't know but I suspect the engraved ones have been coming from the Far East? and non engraved ones are in the US if that is where you are?

I guess I won't be charged twice. The price listed next to the replacement is $0.00. I'm sure if I don't return one I'll be charged again, though! LOL

without doubt!! Apple aren't worth more than 50% of the countries in Europe for no reason :D

First I used the chat feature on the Apple store site, then the customer service rep told me to call Apple directly, so I did.

----------

The CS rep I talked to thinks they were in a big hurry to offer the replacements before it's too late to ship for Friday delivery, and that might explain the typos. I wonder where they're getting the replacements if all the pre-order units are sold out?

Nothing explains typos in e-mails where spell check would have caught it. That is stupid and I still think this is total ********.

Just got this email from Apple.
Looks like I will get mine on Friday. :)
--------
Dear Customer,

Thank you for your reply.

Your standard, non-engraved iPad will arrive on Friday, March 16. You may see a longer delivery estimate in an email or at apple.com/orderstatus. Please disregard this information; your standard iPad will ship within 24 hours.

An Apple Online Store Representative will contact you with return information within one week.

Thank you for your business.

Sincerely,

The Apple Online Store

EDIT:

Here's another email from Apple explaining the original email typos.

You recently received an email concerning a delivery issue with your
new iPad. This email was indeed from us here at Apple.

You may have also noticed a few unfortunate typos in that email.
Needless to say, we're more than a little embarrassed. We wish we
could blame it on autocorrect, but no such luck this time. This
was simply a typing glitch followed by an exuberant "Send" command.
We appreciate your understanding.

Lol "althugh". Read your email you would know the answer :).

So basically they have a ton of throw away iPads just sitting there? They will not be able to sell any of those iPads as new once used for a meager 2 or 3 days.

I guess it gets the refurb stock up and running?

That's funny. I got this email too and called Apple. The customer service rep checked on it and said it was true. that I would be receiving two iPads, one non-personalized on the 16th and the one I ordered on the 20th (which I have to return). He said that I havd to reply to the email, though.

I replied and opted for the 16th. We'll see.

So it's real? Maybe it has the spelling errors because its sent from china? Who knows. This is weird.

yeah my replacement ipad is " proccessing " wiht a ship date of 4-4. is yours the same status? anyones updated??

What a strange sequence of events. I am glad for all of you that it is not a scam, but still... I have never heard of a company going to that length to satisfy their customers (but strangely not spell checking their emails.)

I also ordered a personalized ipad (probably against my better judgement), and got a shipping confirmation last week. It went from China to Louisville in about 48 hours but it has just been sitting in Louisville since March 10 (over 4 days). I live in Atlanta. Is Louisville the closest UPS center to me?

I wonder if I will be getting a similar email in the next few hours about a delay...

if you iPad is coming via UPS, than yes. UPS is based in Louisville.

this is pretty interesting. bad spelling aside, it's pretty excellent customer service, isn't it? they're trying their best to accommodate people they know were madly refreshing the pre-order page on launch day by offering a standard non-engraved iPad. once you get your engraved one, you could just restore the latest backup to it and then return the non-engraved one. right?

I would think they would rather we send the non-engraved ones back. Easier to sell the non-engraved ones as refurbs. It is excellent customer service. It's stuff like this that keeps me loyal. They certainly don't have to do this. I feel bad for thinking it was a scam at first, but it wasn't addressed to me by name as usual, and the typos made it look scam-like. Plus I was really tired and freaked out.

In the email they made it seem like they wanted the engraved one back but I'm sure with a phone call you could convince them to let you keep the engraved and send the other one back.

True. I'll call as soon as I get it in my hands. The engraved one is my sister's birthday gift (we're celebrating Friday night, which is why I really want it on time), so I'm hoping they'll let her keep it and take the non-engraved one back to sell as a refurb. All I can do is ask.

Ditto...I am in the exact same boat...I'm guessing they will leave KY tomorrow en route to ATL..at least I sure hope so....keeping fingers crossed

Glad to see it appears legit, but I've never seen a company go to such great lengths to make up for a shipping delay. Maybe offering a free case, or iTunes/Apple Store credit... but to ship a whole iPad to use for a week until a customer gets their engraved iPad - WOW.

I ordered my engraved iPad on the 9th. It's currently located in Louisville, & scheduled for delivery on the 16th. I didn't receive this email. I guess I got lucky!

Glad to see this isn't a scam! Apple has wonderful customer service, & the fact that they're doing this makes me like them even more.
