I hopped on the Walgreens Facebook at all the angry people who are now switching their prescriptions to Walgreens to use Apple pay. I think it's beyond silly...if you're that concerned about compromising your credit card or whatever then you would use checks or cash. Now off to McDonald's to get my fat self some double bacon cheeseburger things so I can use apply pay

While the merchant may have the same refund policy, credit cards provide an additional layer of protection in case they refuse to take back the disputed item. You can dispute with your CC company and they'll reverse the charge. You're out of luck if you paid in cash.

Common sense is more security than Apple pay or credit cards. You also speak as if everything is black and white. The cc Company will only reserve the charge if you win which isn't guaranteed. People lose disputes every day. At which point you'd be out of luck as week and time.

Also the item in question is a factor. We're talking about dog food here. A 4K 65-inch curved tv. Yes, I'm likely using my debit card if for nothing else not generally walking around with that much cash. Many smaller stores don't even accept cc under a certain amount.

That may be true if we're talking about just any transactions, but the customer will almost always likely win when it comes to item not as described disputes, especially if the merchant refuses to take it back. However, the CC company may also cover the merchant if they're unable to work out the dispute with the customer.
