The previous posting about Apple removing thousands of "sexual content" apps irritated me, but the blind support from the iZealots bothered me a lot more.

Now with this posting, people are actually thinking a little deeper about the heavy handed censorship and hypocrisy, and I think there might even be a tinge of outrage. A little faith is restored for Apple users.

Maybe when it's a good percentage of the posts on here it's not "iZealots" but people with a point of view that just happens to differ from your own?

The problem is that there are no alternatives unless you jailbreak.

Then don't buy the thing in the first place! I absolutely agree with you stating your displeasure to Apple. They are obviously listening to some people because this influenced their decision. Tell them that you won't buy their product unless they open the app store. If enough people do this, Apple will respond! Vote with your wallet!

Apple can do whatever they wish with the app store. They made it and control it. It's not a debate about free speech. It's a store. A very popular store. Any store can choose what they want to put in it.
If people don't like it there are alternatives.

Yeah, Apple can do and will whatever they want with their store, but it is just hypocritical, despotic and puritanical. Jobs and all of his obedient followers should get laid.

Android looks better every day for many of us.

Sheeesh

The rating and filtering may not be working as efficiently enough, so Apple manually stepped in to remove destructive materials, and the adults who need those destructive materials to make their lives more exciting are complaining.

I guess most of the whiners aren't parents. You will understand once you've became parents, whiners. Or for the better, don't become parents at all. I will feel sorry for your kids.

Too many whiners. What the heck is wrong with this country?

Not when it's a unison tone of absolute apple appraisal in the face of hypocritical censorship.

What will they ban next? - is the question all you "its a great business move" iworshipers should be thinking.

The trouble is so many people start fretting about not what has happened, but what might happen next based on little more than theoretical possibility or speculation. Why not wait and see if it does actually happen?

It's like if Apple discontinued the MacBook for good business reasons, everyone suddenly panicking that they would also discontinue the MBPs when there was no actual indication to suggest that.

well Playboy and the SI swimsuit apps are all correctly marked as 17+ unlike some of the other apps out there. I saw some marked 12+ that seriously should have been higher.

so i lift mom's CC and I know her date of birth. problem solved.

If your child is lifting your credit card to enter false information, then the Apps store is not your biggest problem. Therefore censorship in case is irrelevant.

Android looks better every day for many of us.

Maybe it should set it self as the champion of grumbling wankers?
There certainly seems to be a lot of them.

But even if ALL men were pro booby apps - the other half of the population would still find them an immature waste of time, effort and developer skill.

I ask again - how many people would you let play on your iPad if you knew there were dozens of apps where wouldn't say "Hey Mom - check THIS out!"?

Not when it's a unison tone of absolute apple appraisal in the face of hypocritical censorship.

I understand that you view this as censorship, but I (and others) don't. I think it's too dismissive just to ignore the other side of the argument because it comes from "iZealots" rather than try to understand and respect the opposing point of view.

Yes, I am quite serious. They will be monitored until they are adults and have moved out. There is no magical switch that gets flipped at 16 that gives them instant wisdom, it is actually quite the reverse.

Strict parental guidance has worked for mankind for thousands of years. Adolescents would be escorted while courting, or at gatherings, parties, dances and such. The line of reasoning you espouse became popular in the mid 60's. You can look at almost all morality metrics and see them fall off the edge of the cliff when this thinking became popular, i.e. teenage pregnancy, drug use, civil disrespect and so on.

As far as them going crazy at 18 or 20 or 21, many studies have proven this false. Of course there are always exceptions.

+1000000

Strict parenting is the reason some kids turned out better than most kids. The whiners here will never understand this. That's why they're still single or divorced or their kids are not in college. There're always exceptions, but very rare.

The false Moral of the US is the thing that always pissed me off bigtime.

When i was in the US for about a year of my lifetime (midwest! i have to admit as much) i saw all them "nice girls from church" getting laid by 3 guys/night beeing totaly wasted at the age of 17 and than get into a car and drive home pregnant by three potential fathers.

Boobs NO. But a gun Simulator is fine? Well i forgot Boobs are not in the 2nd Amendment, and the republican lobby isn´t to big either...

PS: Who in gods name buys/downloads these stupid bikini Apps anyway  You  Get a life !!!!!

The Church, school, parental controls or any other group or function can not replace the parent in raising children. These "nice girls from church" did not get in this situation because of any failings of the Church but because the parent abandoned them to their peers.

Yet another reason why I am looking at moving to a PC at the end of this yaer; its my f*cking device; I bought it, and if I want big 14inch c*ck's or massive hooters then I damn well should be allowed to download it and put it on *MY* device that *I* purchased. As for the AppStore; again, it is *MY* device, not Steve Jobs, and if I want to put Flash on it I bloody well will and be damned about the bad battery performance.

Thank god for Android! Apple is so lame these days. What's next blocking maps that show directions to adult bookstores?

who cares anyway...have we really degraded as a society to the point where if we can't get porn on our cell phones it's an outrage?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I know kids whose parents got divorced. I know kids who were raised with single parents. I know kids who went through Hell on Earth being raised, poor and (sometimes) abused. I know a lot of these kids. I know a lot of kids whose parents stayed together, and were far less strict than you suggest.

They all came out fine. Got jobs (or at least trying...you know how hard the economy is these days), getting married, starting new lives (I even know a young girl who's got herself a house now. Her mom was a single parent)

I'm sorry you can't see far beyond your small town with its trailer trash, Moral Guardian Troll.

Well than get pictures of the stated bodyparts and load them to your device!
And do not compare a PC (your moving to) with your iphone... On your mac (which is glad your leaving) you can certainly access pRON if you may.

Please do not forget to sign off from this forum so we dont get retarded comments like the one above.

"It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from Ultra-feminists who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were afraid that their kids could be masturbating," Mr. Schiller said.

corrected!

Kicking out playboy, FHM et al. Would be a big mistake at a time when apple is courting magazine publishers for the iPad. Also take note that they are (from what I understand ) real apps, as in they have actual design and content, which is owned by the people publishing the app.

On the other side of this argument is the crap shop. The apps that get 40+ submissions a day with little or no change to them. The content in them is very unlikely to be owned by the dev/publisher and so, not only are they spam they're also infringing copyright. They clog up the top lists and appear under the most insane of categories. Searching for an app that actually does what you want will almost invariably bring up at least ten of these spam crapps. The fact it has been allowed to continue for as long as it has is amazing to me.

Leaving them out has the following benefits.

  • Speed up app store approval for genuine developers. Since there is no longer a constant flood of crap for the app reviewers to sort through.
  • enhance the usability of the app store for customers. Remembering that Apple is all about "the experience".
  • Raises their image a bit since the app store is no longer a repository of cheap smut.

Leaving them in just encourages more and more of this rubbish to be produced which devalues the app store as a legitimate place for developers to get recognition and drags down the overall perception of the Apple brand. 140,000 apps is meaningless when 50,000 of them are spam.

I sympathise with the guys who've genuinely made a single app and only submitted it once and have been removed from the store. Totally sucks to be you right now. However, even from their perspective the signal to noise ratio of legit app to spam must have been crippling your sales.

In conclusion

catering to the lowest common denominator has never been Apples business it only baffles me why they've allowed it to go unchecked for so long.

Church was not my point. I just quoted a person i met while i was staying in the US. She refferred to a girl as the "nice girl from church".

You could replace the trem by: "Honor Role Student"; 4.0 GPA Student"; "Nice next dor neighbour" and so on... its the facade that iam talking about.

If you want boobs on an iPhone, use Safari. Plus, anything to help filter all the untold crap out of the App Store is a blessing.

Oh, wait, the iPhone doesn't support Flash.

How long until we se "parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see" with Safari?

Giving a child unfettered access to the internet on a portable device is a danger far worse than these apps.

I thought this was the whole point of ratings?...For parents to set what their kids can and cannot have access to. I mean, why remove apps if you have ratings and ratings control in place in iTunes already? R rated movies, explicit television shows and songs with explicit lyrics are all available on the iTunes store. Is Apple going to remove those too? Why are apps singled out while other forms of content aren't?

Apple this is a losing battle. You need to get out of the content approval business and judge apps solely on whether or not they contain malware, cause your iPhone to crash or give out personal data without the user knowing. Other than that, you really should not be determining what adults can or cannot purchase. You have ratings and ratings controls in place. It's up to parents to decide whether to use them or not. Don't restrict adults from purchasing whatever products they want in the app store.

Agreed. People today don't want to take the responsibility to block themselves. They want someone else to do it.
