It's hard to say he isn't absolutely right. There are so many cheap junk Android phones, and carriers are getting all their money from moving people over to smartphones. They all try to convince average consumers coming from a feature phone that the flavor of the week free Android smartphone is the best way to go. If anything, an iPhone should be the way to go for these people. Android is great for a tweaker/power user that prefers that ecosystem, but for most people it's confusion and bad experience city. As an extreme power user that used to switch phones every few months, I still get frustrated anytime I use an Android phone with just how unintuitive the experience is.

What 'features' does android have that you don't? Here's one that you have that Android doesn't. BACKUP and RESTORE! I call that a BIG one!

But with android you can share pics and video by bumping the phones together! Huh? I can share pics and video across the planet. It's called the Internet. No need to bump phones. Never understood that one.

that one bump app was out on iOS before any of this anyway...reactionary

As others have said, It's time to man up apple!
Hardware is fine but software is dragging it's feet big time.
Phil is worried about the impact of Samsungs GS4

Again - as I said earlier - this kind of BS crap FUD needs to stop. Where is the data that Android users are best for tweakers or power users? And that for most it's confusion and a bad experience.

Please - state your opinion as an opinion. Don't try to pass it off as fact.

The only thing better about an iPhone is the physical design. It ***** over any android phones design but android OS ***** over every iOS.

Some people have this thing about them that requires them to have some sort of validation over their choice whether it's an iOS device, Android, Windows, BB or whatever.

It would be an ultra boring place if all it had was iOS devices or just Android devices, etc. I'm very glad to have a choice to look at what makes each unique then have the freedom to make my own choice that makes me happy. I could care less if someone else chose differently for their reasons.

The typical Macrumors user has this chip on their shoulder where they feel everything that comes out of Apple is the absolute best and that everything else to include the people who choose differently are somehow inept, mentally handicapped or just plain stupid.

PC/android folk do not have a single legit argument except the openness. stick to that one and quit flaming on macrumor forums

Well Windows is less open than Mac OS X since Mac OS X is built from open-source software. But yeah, I agree, especially about Windows. It's so far behind.

Is it copying or is it just the natural development direction of where it was going anyway, where Apple simply got there first?

I think that was answered in the trial where the slides were presented showing the Google prototypes *before* they saw iPhone and *after* iPhone. And Samsung has continued the egregious "me too" behavior - S Voice, Passbook, etc. They aren't even attempting to hide the fact, just blatant copies.

The trial did not find Google themselves guilty of any copying. Samsung is not Google.

Just wondering why doesn't apple mention there amazing customer service anymore? And do any of the android phone manufacturers offer a similar service. I have to w honest I break my phone a lot and if I didn't have AppleCare+ I would have had to pay a $150 dollar copay twice and 240 for the protection plan ($10 per month for 2 years). With apple care my total cost after 2 replacements is $200 that to me is a huge benefit that android phone just don't have.

I honestly think that Apple's in a tough spot. Sincerely. Radical changes upset the user base - and if executed wrong/badly are serious hits.

Apple has been the "untouchable" company and a media darling - and yet - the same media is looking for failure.

Conversely - Samsung and their new phone is something the media is rooting for and/or at least wanting to see be a true contender. It makes for good headlines and link bait.

If Samsung doesn't deliver - media wise - it's not nearly as "catastrophic" as if Apple were to falter.

Perhaps yet another bad analogy - it's like when an A+ student always gets A's - you just expect them it loses a bit of excitement. Anything less is cause for concern. But if there's a B student and every once in awhile - he gets an A - everyone gets excited. If they go back to getting a B - it's not that big of a deal.
Profit.

Just look at the ****ing profits. Thats all companies care about. Analysts are the asshats that think things like number sold vs competitor X matters.

Apple makes nearly 3/4th of the ENTIRE PROFITS OF THE MOBILE INDUSTRY. Samsung can move their phones all they want. If I was in apples position I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only

Where as I have owned a 3G (which is now is use by my wife) and a 4S and I see me using the 4s for another 3 years, perhaps your need to get a new phone more often is the "hurt" you are looking for ?

You know, I am not sure why they don't talk about this more. Truth be told, I don't remember them ever really talking about it. But it is the one way that I can't argue Apple has the competition beat. Microsoft comes close, but only if you buy Microsoft Assure (it's basically Apple Care Plus) and that is only available (as of this writing) at their brick and mortar stores, which are pretty scarce.

The trial did not find Google themselves guilty of any copying. Samsung is not Google.

That's like saying the faulty engine part which caused an accident wasn't GM or Ford, it was [insert company here]. (And then we find the internal memo where said company had informed GM or Ford of a known issue or possible problem well before the vehicle was in production.)

Google clearly stole the design from Apple both on the hardware and the software; Samsung for all intents and purposes IS Android, and they have continued the fine tradition.

I mean, let's be real here. What part of the memo where Samsung executive states "How can we be more like iPhone" could you possibly miss or construe as anything else?

I think if you're someone who notices the details, no Android phone would suffice. That is certainly the case for me, I tried to get out of Apple's grips with an Android phone (when iPhones didn't have LTE) and couldn't wait to switch back. Until Samsung or whoever can make products that consider the user experience in detail, Apple will still be on top.

I really can't see what features a Android phone has that really make me think "Gee, I really wish I had an android phone."

but there are plenty of things that make me think

"Gee, I really am glad I don't have an android phone."

but that's just me :p

That's how I feel when I see an iPhone, look at the screen, and see the same old stuff. Only now it's taller.

My response to iOS:

Phil needs to stop talking trash, and back that talk up with some a great version iOS. Don't get me this thinner and lighter stuff. I want something that'll blow Samsung and Android out of the water.

I wonder - does being an iPhone user cause poor spelling and grammar, or is it the other way around? There must be a thesis in there somewhere.

You can "find your iPhone" the next time your phone is stolen. Does the Galaxy also come with that feature, or do you need an app for that?

yes you need an app for that, but hang on so do you with ios, find your iphone is a downloaded app smart arse.
