Apple makes the best phone, but he is exaggerating the margin of superiority by a magnitude and doesnt realize that if other products are an indicator, they will soon be passed up by the many companies making stellar products today.

Either way, it is obvious Apple is feeling the heat and feeling a bit insecure these days to have to defend their dominance in a single arena. They know that the 90,000 they employ are not being utilized as well as they were in the past, and Apple is becoming a very boring company.

It's actually hurtful and laughable at the same time when Schiller comes up with these prepositions. Yes, iPhone and iOS is great even now and a lot of people use it for ease of use or security or comfort or for whatever reason but saying it's "unmatched" is literally making people laugh.

As for someone from the tech industry I can see how some of the other Android devices beat the iPhone in specific features but iPhone is probably still winning overall. That doesn't make it "earth shattering" at all. It's just marginally better for some people.

Macs are coming guys. Apple's engineers haven't been sat on their thumbs, they've been busy designing their own chips for the 2017 Macs.

The switch over is coming.

It is absolute nonsense to describe the iPhone as 'earth-shattering'. It was a significant step forward in the art, but it was only an evolutionary step. Palm/Treo had been offering smart phones for a number of years before the iPhone emerged, and had a significant third-party developer base offering a wide-range of applications (including satnav).

Came here for the bitchy anti-Cook/anti-Schiller/anti-Apple comments. More salty than a force nine storm at sea. You guys should def. bitch more in every single article.

Why would you want to ruin your day ... if you find it so hurtful?

I think it really took off when it finally synced with Exchange servers.
Then businesses got on board and killed the expensive maintenance fees of Blackberry.

Hearing a top brass at Apple make claims about "unmatched", like they have nothing to fear from the competition, sounds oh so vaguely familiar. Where have I heard this before. hmm....

There was this company out of Canada who was #1, Did a lot of research while in motion, like dark coloured fruit. they too thought they were the best of the best, "we'll be fine"... till they weren't

You Can NEVER rest on your history in this business. it's too fast, too innovative, and too competitive to sit thinking just because you're #1 now (or then) you can stay there just because you are you. Eventually, fickle minds want more, and if you're not ready to provide it we WILL shop elsewhere.

Hubris is a dangerous thing.

Just because Schiller is employed by Apple doesn't mean he has to trumpet every product they have.

If Siri falls short then call a spade a spade and say it falls short. But claiming that it rivals Alexa, Google's Assistant, and Cortana is so discordant with reality that it comes off as a man afraid of committing a thought crime.

Totally^^^
However, to accept that reality, publicly, calls for Schiller to have honesty and "courage."

To me, Schiller sounds exactly like the numpty-elect. They are made of the same cloth, and like my Spanish-speaking friends say, derogatorily, "La misma chola, con diferente calzon."

Unmatched? Is he taking the piss?

Even though I love my Galaxy S7 and think Android phones are (mostly) amazing, I do think the case could be made that the iPhone is still the best all around experience for a smartphone aka unmatched.

Schiller saying Siri does more with a conversational interface is a flat out joke though. Like it's not even close compared to what Google is doing.

I think the move of the Mac Pro's to use Thunderbolt 3 as their primary connection is evidence against this as Apple would no longer be able to use Thunderbolt 3 without Intel's chips. (Intel owns the Thunderbolt 3 spec and licenses it, and requires currently an intel chipset to support)

"Schiller positioned the iPhone as a top smartphone. "The quality is unmatched. The ease of use is still unmatched. The integration of hardware software is unmatched. We're not about the cheapest, we're not about the most, we're about the best."

And thats the reason why i got an oneplus phone...

Apple have the greatest team of innovators in hyperbole. Bar none. The greatest, most magical, innovative masters of BS when all we really want is RAM in a socket.

I believe that he believes it. Which is sad.

Earth shattering is a bit of a stretch but, yeah it was pretty awesome, and in my opinion still leads the way in user experience. But then different people want different experiences, so I'm sure plenty of folk would disagree.

For sure though, more people would do well to remember that everything before it was suddenly crap. In fact more people would do well to appreciate the incredible technology that we all have at our fingertips these days, instead of getting all suicidal about a headphone jack :D

Greatest invention of the century (so far) by far. Thank you SJ! Thank you Apple!

I remember sitting in Moscone West at Macworld 10 years ago fumbling with my Blackberry when Steve introduced the original iPhone. I had gone through a succession of early smartphones, including the Blackberry, Palm Treo, Motorola Q and hating the unfinished feel of each device.
Steve was right. The Apple iPhone was a game changer...

I agree. My smartphone at the time was the HTC Apache running Windows CE. It was one of the best smartphones out at the time, but it was utterly diabolical. I almost threw it out the car window on several occassions. Horrible usability.

I find this quote funny "Having my iPhone with me as the thing I speak to is better than something stuck in my kitchen or on a wall somewhere."

Because apple will release such a device in a couple years...And why cant apple ever compliment the competition?
Why does he have to always take a dig? Im sure Phil bashed the Note series as "too big" and goes to release the 6 Plus.

I still enjoy apple but Phil does seem like that Iraq General.
Also thanks to the small size, affordability, and cuteness of the Echo dot, many of us have these in more than one room, not "stuck in our kitchen or on a wall somewhere." My goodness he comes across as arrogant and ignorant there. And that is NOT the image a man in his position and on his pay scale should be projecting. Good grief, for what that man earns, if I were Tim Cook I would expect and DEMAND more erudition when representing my company to the public.

Macs going to non Intel? Time to switch fully to another O/S.

As rumours go, Apple are having issues with CPU production.
