So, according to this report Android does not have any security issues. What Cisco reported is that Android users visit web sites with malware more often than iOS users do. That is not Android problem. It looks more like iOS problem. It's very possible thta this malware is hosted by Flash-based porn web sites. IOS users perhaps would like to visit those web sites too but they can't.

I can't believe you're mentioning Flash in 2014. Move on.

Nope. Net Market Share counts unique visits.

Or.. you didn't bother to read what the graph was actually reporting and just jumped to conclusions.

I read: Web Malware Encounters by Mobile Devices.
There is two ways you can look at it:

1. iOS devices vs Android devices

2. a) iOS phones vs Android Phones
2. b) iOS tablets vs Android Tablets
2. c) iOS music players vs Android music players

In the case of this graph, this is what is shown:
3. a) Android devices vs iOS phones
3. b) Android devices vs iOS tablets
3. c) Android devices vs iOS music players

which is a false representation of what is the true distribution of the graph

Looks like Phil is upset at how much marketshare Android Smartphones have :p

I wonder why the top comment mentions all but 'youtube' app from Google, maybe since there is no Apple workaround for that app and you can't live without it:p

Yawn, when is he going to stop? It's very boring and incredibly unprofessional.

As for Android, well my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 are perfectly fine, never had any issues, then again I haven't rooted either and I don't go and install stolen apps or games from unknown sources.....

But to me, as Schiller is a face of Apple, it comes across as Apple trying to belittle the competition again with fud, rather than innovation. I just find it very snarky and underhanded when someone does this, they should concentrate on making iOS7 worth having first.

Right - because Apple never did mac vs pc ads where they made the same kind of statements about PCs.

Apple should just point out the strengths of the competition - right? Just like all the other well intentioned, good consience companies - thats what they do!

- Chrome
- Google Maps
- Google Mail
- Google Earth
- Google+
- Google Translate
- Google Drive.

I think first time in History we have an OS that is malware so no more malware is needed..

----------

So Apple has a top guy dedicated to see how Android is doing just like Samsung has for Apple.. Good. We know how that is going to end for Apple.

This is some seriously crappy data visualization (rounded tops making the chart harder to read and making smaller values seem smaller than they are. And splitting out iPhone, iPad, and iPods seems completely biased.

It seems that while most people realized these numbers roughly match market share, they failed to read the report which stated that these values included phishing attempts. Actual malware attrition is close to 99% for Android, meaning that the article chart is being generous at best.

Bottom line: Java sucks (what a surprise).

"99 percent of all mobile malware targeted Android devices"
"Web Malware Ecounters"

Do you see the weasel words? Targeted. Encounters. The report is not about infected android phones. This report is about attempts to infect android phones.

So many websites have retweeted Phil Schiller's "false" message. I put that in quotes cause the tweet says nothing, just a link to the report. So when asked about it in the future, he can deny everything by saying he just provided a link to the report, he didn't say android was insecure. Weasel words.

If they add up all Android devices into one bar, shouldn't they do the same for all iOS devices?

Lol - yes, its entirely reasonable to expect him to post bad press about his company and to ignore the good press. Everyone is doing that these days.

please read the post i was quoting and the prior exchange.

that segment in my post was a hyperbole since i originally said i thought it showed insecurity to tweet this. apple should focus on apple

i also wondered if anyone on the fence was actually waiting for schillers take on this

lets just bypass the game where we act like we dont know what he is doing here. just concentrate on making apple products the best on the market

I agree with you in some ways, but let's not forget he's the SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing not design, or something else that involves product creation.

he is but what is the mantra on these forums when microsoft airs those tedious anti ipad commercials or their pathetic scroogle campaign?

anyone can feel free to disagree with me but pointing out flaws in a competitor when there are no less (maybe just different) problems in your own company i find that petty and beneath a market leader. i think its a sign of arrogance and thinking that you are untouchable.

and lets face its not like anyone out there is gonna change their purchase because of his tweets.

but i appreciate you actually reading my post and responding fairly and honestly that is beyond some here.

It's implied in the huge disparity between actual market share and the much vaunted (and totally unreliable) "Net Market Share"...

No, it's simply a strawman argument that you created because the data doesn't fit your point.

"The stock iOS browser doesn't let you switch to desktop view (i.e. to a desktop useragent), the stock Android browsers (both Chrome and the AOSP browser) do.

And the stock browsers are what most people use, on any platform."

So, again, "Net Market Share" stats are totally unreliable.

Do you have any evidence to suggest that user agent switching would have a significant effect on the percentages being reported? Unless half of all Android users are switching their user agent, the overall point still stands.

Hard market share data are what count and Android devices are "encountering" web malware more simply because there are WAY MORE of them in the world than iOS devices. WAY MORE.

That's a theory. But the data we are discussing does not support it.

Why not? Is not iOS share worldwide around 12%? That is almost as obscure as OS/X.

You are confusing quarterly unit smartphone market share with total mobile install base.

Actually, you can look at it more that two ways. Cisco chose to look at it by browser user agent. Not everything has to be about Android v iOS.

 Just because Cisco didn't choose to study what you expected them to doesn't make them weasels.

wow, look at how much Android is ?

However, the report forgets SMS & Sim card re-programming, this can be done now too. Soon via remote. No phone can protect.
