What an *******. He knew that hinting would lead to more coverage and speculation for him than saying he was working on Jobs' yacht. Luckily Apple came out with a statement before it turned into the drawn out hype and speculation that preceded the Segway being announced.

These days anyone and everyone mention Apple b/c they know it's good click bait.

Why?

Surely Jobs knew he was quite ill and not long for this world. Why would he have a yacht built that he would never use?

I'm still thinking Philippe Starck's prolific design capabilities would be used along the lines of iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S (Philippe STARCK). Or maybe eyeglass frames with a built-in iPhone 5 in black, white, red, or blue...

I absolutely love the entitlement of the users here. :D

Starck is not a good computer designer - all his hardware designs look like huge lumps in water. No loss for Apple indeed.

The boat in the photo looks like a mash-up of the Disco Volante from "Thunderball" and the African Queen from, you guessed it, "The African Queen."

You want power boats? Wally can make you one: http://www.wally.com
The 118 WallyPower featured in "The Island" and "Top Gear" sports three gas turbine engines for a combined 16,800 horsepower (12,500 kW) and can cruise at 60 knots (70 mph.)

Not sure why i'm bothering to comment here, but;

If Mr Jobs commisioned a yacht, and it was well along in the build process,
i could see where his family might want to just go on and complete it.
But if was just in design stage, i would be kind of suprised.
i know this is a gender stereotype, but i just don't see that many women ordering pretentious custom boats.
they are usually smarter than that.
Unless you absolutly love sailing all the time, it just makes more sense to rent and charter stuff as needed.

Now that's some powerful looking wifi gear.

Hopefully Jobs had better taste than to want a game-boy stealth destroyer designed to impress hookers.

In the end, color guy is right. Just charter one when you want and then fly away when it is over.

A yacht! Man, my interest was really piqued when the "rumours" suggested Starck was working on some new "revolutionary" product... my imagination was running wild!

But, it's a boat.

oh well. I'm sure Apple will have some cool stuff coming down the pipe eventually.... :)

Read the previously mentioned Steve Jobs bio. So many people are posting here based on their own speculation, when it's all in the book. Being an Apple fan site, I would hope most of you have read it, or would at least refrain from making huge assumptions before doing a little research.

So i will understand about the boat if i read the book?
fair enough, i'll read it.
i've been waiting for the fever to die down so i can order it from the library.
No, i rarely buy books because i just read them once, then they add to the clutter in my house.
( i read a lot)
plus, i've already paid for the library through taxes:)

I didn't read the bio, what does it say on the yacht?

true
I don't remember exactly and don't feel like looking it up, but I think he was putting off getting a yacht since the early-mid 2000's because he kept thinking he was going to die soon. He kept not dying and looked like he was getting better, so he finally decided to get a yacht as something to focus on looking towards the future.
