Just got this update through the normal firmware update process (no VPN) in Germany. One thing I noticed is that the adaptive color is vastly different depending on the brightness setting. It's 2:40 pm right now and when I put my lights at 100% it's a rather cold white color but when I put them at 50% it's much warmer. Is this the intended behavior?

I reached out to Hue's Support a little while ago (24/7 support) on Twitter and this is what I got back from them:

"Hi Shawn, thank you for reaching out. As part of our safe deploy process, we will further roll out Apple HomeKit Adaptive Lighting for your Hue Bridge in the next few weeks. This is a gradual roll out. Hope this info helps!"

I mean damn, it has been eight days since they "started to release" the firmware update. If it takes another 2-3 weeks, that is just total garbage. I might go the VPN route if it is not released in one week.

Anyway, hope this helps some people as to why they are not seeing the firmware update even though it is technically "released."

:apple:

Still no update for me either. Using TunnelBear in my iPhone as VPN to search for update didn’t work as well. Sent them a DM yesterday, let’s see what they reply, but I guess will be same as your reply. I live in Brazil. Will check with Gui Rambo to see if he got the update

Just wanted to say that for me personally the adaptive lighting setting was completely bugged immediately after updating (e. g. it was sometimes the case that no matter what color I chose via Siri, the adaptive color option was selected when I went into the Home app).

So I restarted the Hue bridge, the Apple TV and my iPhone and then the issue was resolved.

Just wanted to point this out in case someone else is also experiencing issues with the adaptive lighting.

This doesn't work for me. Here's what I did:

1. Connected Bridge to Mac using Ethernet
2. Connected to ExpressVPN using L2TP to a Netherlands server
3. In System Prefs -> Sharing, Enabled Internet Sharing
4. Under Internet Sharing selected "Share your connection from: ExpressVPN" to computers using "Ethernet".

Hue app on phone cannot connect to Bridge.

i did exactly this, then restarted the HUB until it connected. Very weird approach, but someone said wrote they restarted the computer 3-4 times. I tried that at first, then restarted the hub, the third time it got connected.

I believe so. I would like a slider to adjust the default or baseline warmth. It's too cold for me at all times of day.

When using hue lights with hue dinners and motion sensors, it seems to turn off adaptive lighting to me. This is because I have them setup with the hue app rather than HomeKit; the reason is because you lose functionality, for example homekit can’t dim lights using a switch the same way the hue app can, which is dumb. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

You can set the top button presses to "Last on" state in the Hue app for the dimmer switch.

I'd be interested to hear better solutions.

I'm in the UK too but I was too impatient so I forced the update using a VPN and ethernet from Bridge to Mac today.

I'm not 100% but I think the dimmer switch has to be reconfigured. I've set mine like this for now:
  • All presses of top button are now "Last on state" on Dimmer Switch (previously each press activated a default Hue scene like Energize, Concentrate, Relax, etc)
  • Home app Automations for time of day (daytime activates 'Daytime' scene in HomeKit, sunset onwards activates 'Evening' scene, these are both with Adaptive Lighting but 100% and 50% brightness.
  • One more Automation which is IF people are in, change scene to Evening at Sunset.
This way whenever I press the top button, the lights turn to their last used state then immediately adjust brightness depending on the time of day w/ Adaptive Lighting enabled. And if people are in, the lights all drop from 100% to 50% at sunset (or turn on at 50% if they weren't on).

I'm not sure if this system is perfect yet and hope to see other people share their set ups.

The lights are definitely warming gradually as the day goes on. Interestingly they're still not too warm at sunset itself, it's taken another few hours to get warmer slowly since.

Be interesting to see how much warmer they get and try and figure out how it works!

Hi, I'm not sure how to set my Hue lights. I have only ever used the lights with the dimmer switches. Apart from configuring the rooms, I never changed any other config. Will the lights get the right colour depending on the time of the day when I switch them on using the dimmer top button? That would have been my expected behaviour. Or do I need to create those automations as well?

Yeah after having a play I figured this out, but for the motion sensors it doesn’t seem possible. You can set them up with HomeKit, but for some reason HomeKit seems to suck for this, as sometimes for some strange reason my hallway lights don’t always turn off when they should

Does anyone know how to disable it after it has been enabled? I think I’ll go for hue automation instead as lights are too cold.

I think if we all submit feedback to Apple and request an option to make 'More Warm' or 'Less Warm' like Night Shift, hopefully they'll add it.

For instance it's 4pm here in the UK and the sun sets very soon (getting dark already) but the Adaptive Lighting lights are still cold white.

EDIT: Can't find a section for 'Home' on the feedback site...

The adaptive color is just selectable/de-selectable in the normal color picker so there's no possibility/need to disable the actual feature.

Thanks, I have installed “Time-based lights” from Hue labs, I’ll see if I have better results with that.

Here we are two weeks later to the day & I still don’t see this update. I really wish MacRumors would hold off on these articles until mass rollout

I don’t expect Google to ever make Nest products HomeKit compatible but it would be nice. A lot of smart home devices that have been promising HomeKit compatibility for a while suddenly went quiet, and then a few quickly released HomeKit support after iOS 14 was released.

Check out the Starling hub, or the Homebridge project, installed easily on a Raspberry Pi. I dove into it this year (plenty of time at home for these protects!) and now every device I own, including Ring, TP-Link, Nest, Sonos, my older TVs and more, are all in HomeKit and the Home app and controllable by Siri and my Apple Watch. It’s so great to have everything in one app. I regret waiting as long as I did to get this set up! I highly recommend it if you’re tired of waiting for a company to follow through on their HomeKit promise!

The update showed up for me over night (midwest, usa).

I selected to use it and it's working great but what if you want to disable it later? How do you disable that feature?
