I've been using "Twinkly" for a while now. They are HomeKit compatible.

Same here. The integration works reliably, but my only gripe with it currently is that the Twinkly app can’t transfer effects to HomeKit under scenes. If the Festavia can make the sparkling scene (for example) work directly in HomeKit that would be great.

It’s been a while since I looked into Twinkly lights, but I seem to recall some odd security / privacy issues with needing to have your Christmas lights internet addressable (yeah, weird). I’m not sure if I’m remembering that right.
Maybe for firmware but it should not be for normal operation. Someone any insights?

I avoid Philips products like the plague, great at innovation , useless at actually making stuff

Had the misfortune of buying 2 of their TVs over the years … utter garbage
Basically HUE has the Philips brand name, but it isn’t the Philips company.
Same for TV’s, designed and manufactured by a different company.
And I concur, Philips TV’s are not that good anymore. HUE however works fine and the lights last quite long. Stable and easy control.

HK scenes are unable to trigger scenes on a different device (Hue, IKEA, Eve etc) at this moment. Fade rates are not possible either.
All on my wish list though.

Philips TVs are not made by Philips, and haven't been made by them for some time. It's owned by some Asian brand (TP Vision) that licenses the name since 2012.

Or more of a direct comparison - Twinkly 250 for £95 (I'd guess a similar $ price?) with all the features of the Hue (including HomeKit) - but most significantly, the bulbs on Twinkly lights are individually mappable and addressable so can you create any image/pattern/effect you want, whereas these Hue ones only seem to offer a gradient effect.

If you haven't seen Twinkly lights in action, go check out some of the videos on YouTube.
Twinkly lights are epic!

I’ve been tempted several times to get a string of HUE lights for their ambient effect, but I never have as I figure the novelty will wear off quickly and I will regret the purchase.

I've got Twinkly lights, they're really fantastic and all the different effects and custom patterns keep the kids entertained forever. It's when they turn on the bright green and red strobe while we're watching TV that I have to take the iPad away...

I love my Hue lights, but Twinkly kills it in this space. The mapping functions on the app are so much fun and add to the Christmas spirit. And getting them 50% off makes it a lot easier to deal with fiscally. My tree is usually warm white 90% of the time, but when the kids want to get creative, it’s worth it. Can’t wait to see how Hue competes in this space.

Bonus, Twinkly are nub lights and don’t get tangled.

Remember folks, these are not Christmas lights... they can be used for kannakihuh or kwanza or any other celebration on any of a thousand cultures that put ligts on a tree. So don't call it Christmas lights.

I love this idea- but who spends $160 for ONE light string? The average 5-6 foot Christmas tree would easily need 2 of these. Perhaps this is aimed at Musk and Bezos. But it took me years to swap out old incandescent lights for LED. While the color change and smart features are cool, I feel this is like a $25-30 product. For $20 I can't a smart timer switch off Amazon and connect my $10 LED lights and call it done.

If you can afford $160 for a light set you use for a few days of every year- That's awesome. Obviously I won't be getting this. I just have to wonder is there a large enough market for such a product? I guess so or Philips would't release them.

Oh look, we're playing the complain and negativity Olympics again.

Geeze everyone, live and let live? Is this really such a hard concept?

Twinkly already been there, done that, got the t-shirt

I've been eyeing with Twinkly's on and off again. I have not yet actually bought any because for one they are pricey as well (since everyone seems to be complaining about Hue's prices) and secondly, I already have a pretty established Hue ecosystem. I just hate to have all my various smart devices scattered over different brands (and apps if not HomeKit enabled).

So this certainly has got my attention.

And just because they're called "Festive lights" doesn't mean they can't be used on any other day of the year. Plenty girls out there who love to decorate their rooms with string lights... 🤷🏻‍♀️
