Not a fan of Twinkly or the new Hue Lights (huge hue fan and have a ton of their stuff). I draw the line at $160 for 1 string of christmas lights.

I am using Tru-Tone lights - https://tru-tone.com/. Amazing lights, LED and look exactly like the vintage lights. Excellent company too. Stand behind their product.
Nice— I picked up some c7 led bulbs on Amazon last year like that (Much less expensive too)— I cannot tell the difference between them and the incandescent bulbs they replaced. love them!

Cool idea but ridiculous price. Cheaper to just get a smart plug 🤷🏼‍♂️
Price is so ridiculous that the family had to sell their home entertainment system to buy these lights. That room (and walls) is so empty.

What is difficult to understand? The cost of living crisis is mainly not a middle class issue. It affects parts of Europe, parts of Africa etc. Some countries are hit badly, some less so and the poorest bear the brunt of it. Show me where the middle class is starving or living on the street and I’ll show you the exception to the rule. Sure, things cost more but if you have an average income, it’s not insurmountable unless you happen to be living in a hotspot. Prove me wrong, preferably with actual words.

I like Hue, am a few hundred in the hole to them, but really fail to see the point of this one. Christmas lights for $160?

It’s like the cost of living crisis isn’t happening.
No one forces you to buy more expensive string lights for your tree?

I'm not sure how your comment has any relevance to anything. Oh my god, Apple is continuing to sell computers! It's like the cost of living crisis isn't happening!

This. People are so out of touch with actual reality but they sure love their buzzwords. And then to complain on an Apple forum of all places, the irony...

Interesting! Thanks for the link.

Definitely tempted by these new Hue string lights too. I’m done with wasting time on setup and troubleshooting of the cheaper brands of smart bulbs. Blown away by the 1-button setup of Hue and the stability.

Not a fan of the price so I will have to see if I can swing some sort of deal. I tried Twinkly last year and returned them. They were way too bright even on the lowest setting. The family did nothing but complain about them.

£150 are they taking the p*ss ? You can buy 15 sets for that price at the Range, they may not twinkle like the expensive ones but do a job.

I’ve been agitating for these for years, and never expected them to come cheap. I expected £200 to be fair. I think I‘ll have to dive in, given the fuss I made.

A lot of people saying they aren’t as good as Twinkly. How do you know? I have some Twinkly lights and while they’re fun it’s quite a bit of work to get something tasteful out of them. The colour gamut is pretty poor and unsubtle especially at lower brightnesses and the app isn’t great. I expect better things from the 3rd party Hue apps.

Or more of a direct comparison - Twinkly 250 for £95 (I'd guess a similar $ price?) with all the features of the Hue (including HomeKit) - but most significantly, the bulbs on Twinkly lights are individually mappable and addressable so can you create any image/pattern/effect you want, whereas these Hue ones only seem to offer a gradient effect.
You can’t offer a gradient effect without the bulbs being individually addressable.

The software might be limited to certain effects but we are yet to see whether that’s a limitation of the Hue app or the device firmware, or just a limitation of whoever wrote the press release.

If you haven't seen Twinkly lights in action, go check out some of the videos on YouTube.
Yeah Twinkly lights seem like they would be a lot cooler with all the effects. Still the price is too steep for me.

I avoid Philips products like the plague, great at innovation , useless at actually making stuff

Had the misfortune of buying 2 of their TVs over the years … utter garbage
Don't. Their TVs are made by TP Vision. Their lights... not sure if still Philips, maybe Signify or something like that. Their lighting is absolutely beautiful. No flickering to be seen.

Same here. The integration works reliably, but my only gripe with it currently is that the Twinkly app can’t transfer effects to HomeKit under scenes. If the Festavia can make the sparkling scene (for example) work directly in HomeKit that would be great.
This may sound super boring... but, can the Winkly lights be set to the basic light pattern of Red-Yellow-Orange-Green-Blue-Purple?

If either the Twinkly or Hue lights can do that, I can get the wife on board.

I've been using "Twinkly" for a while now. They are HomeKit compatible.

I love how customisable they are, but is it user friendly for people that aren't experienced programmers? What's the UI/process like?
