Apple today announced a small but long-awaited change being made in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14: incoming phone and FaceTime calls will no longer take up the entire screen, providing for a much less disruptive experience.

iOS 14 is available in beta for registered Apple developers today, with a public beta to follow next month. The software update will be released to all users with an iPhone 6s or newer in the fall.

I mean, there’s always September. That’s 3 months away when the new iPhones are announced.

Software in June
Hardware in September
Hopefully we can just swipe up to get rid of it like the current banner notifications. Keep it ringing on the caller's end / don't send them straight to voicemail but get rid of the notification for me.

yep. Nothing worse than people knowing when you sent the call to VM. It’s an easy way for people to know you REJECTED them.

Yeah, hopefully the action of swiping away won't be treated the same as declining the call, and simply silences it and gets rid of the notification so that you can keep on doing whatever you were doing before the call.
