First Bridge over the Firth of Forth, South Queensferry. iPhone 12P

Historical note: This bridge, The Forth Bridge, was built in 1890. Before that there was a ferry, the settlements of North and South Queensferry taking their name from Queen Margaret, the Anglo-Saxon princess who fled England after the Norman Conquest of 1066 and later married Malcolm, Kings of the Scots. She arranged a regular ferry service to assist pilgrims traveling to St Andrews, the Court using it to travel back and forth (sic) between the palace at Dunfermline and Edinburgh Castle. (That has a chapel dedicated to St Margaret, as she later became.) A car ferry service was introduced but it ended not long after the Forth Road Bridge opened in 1964. There is now a third bridge close by (called Queensferry Crossing) over the Firth of Forth from Fife. The vessel shown is now but a tourist boat, but still one worth taking to see all three bridges up close and to visit the islands of the Forth.
