But what if the battery is dead.
The chip doesn't really help if your dog took off and you want to know where in the neighborhood it is. (Granted, AirTags would probably require a pretty dense population of Apple devices for this to work effectively, and a cellular GPS tracker would most likely be a much better option.)
im sorry, are you being serious? To help people who constantly lose their **** to find it again. iPhones with the U1 chip will be able to direct you within a few centimeters of a lost item with an air tag attached to it. Keys, wallet, remotes, you name it.
Reflection of the leaker in a metal button. What’s the red dot hiding?
Of course - that’s literally what it’s going to do.im sorry, are you being serious?
is losing your keys a daily occurrence for people?Reflection of the leaker in a metal button.
Of course - that’s literally what it’s going to do.
I know you're joking but some ppl here really think this is a better answer than 'chip'n' their pet in a national registry.
I see this just as a normal keychain with a BIG apple logo ... not a 'tag' product.
Attach it to stuff the kids / partner loose all the time so you don’t have to play the boring ”where are my .....” game every time you leave the house. Won’t help with the kids airpods though, damn.what's the point of air tags?
you != the worldAnother thing the world doesn't need...
And new colors every season 🤑Can’t wait for the amazing colours of tag bands we’ll be getting! Mine will be the Hermés tag at only $999

Looks 100% fake. The text is all over the place and looks very sloppy.
Why? Doesn't the Find My app already solve this problem?I hope they make a thin one that attaches to your iPhone with MagSafe and is around the same size as the MagSafe charger just maybe a little thinner.
Looks more like a $2 keychain. The metal ring is scratched all over and dinged in a couple of places. The leather is worn and starting to fray and the big red circle Photoshopped over the stud (which presumably has a (non-Apple) logo on it) isn't even nearly centered.Looks like $99 leather keychain
I'm guessing it's about battery life - you only need the range to be good enough to reach any passing iPhone, it doesn't need the actual owner to get within that range.I don't understand why they use a radio technology that has such a short range for this purpose.
You've just got to love first-world solutions.I think I understand why they're taking so long: they need all the pieces in place first to make it work.
In other words:
- several iterations of iPhone/iPad with the U1 chip
- Apple Watches with the U1 chip (Series 6)
- HomePod minis with the U1 chip
Once you have several HomePod minis in the house and an iPhone/iPad you suddenly have an 'internal GPS system' for your house. So querying Siri for 'Where are my keys' will result in something magical:
"Your keys are in the kitchen"
...and when you get your iPhone out you'll be able to 'see' their location in augmented reality.
You could read up on the recent changes to Find My. All that's needed is short range sinceI don't understand why they use a radio technology that has such a short range for this purpose.
And I think Apple will do exactly that. The Find tech concept they have for lost iPhones is amazing, my guess is they will build that into the Air Tags as well. They’ll need to sell these pretty hard over tile for me to buy one.
[...]
The only thing that could be better is if you aren’t in range of your tile it can’t be found.
You know this was mentioned briefly during iOS 13’s WWDC announcement and the media at the time were bashing it as a “creepy” feature. Then it appears almost everyone forgot about it.And I think Apple will do exactly that. The Find tech concept they have for lost iPhones is amazing, my guess is they will build that into the Air Tags as well.

The Clever Cryptography Behind Apple's 'Find My' Feature
Apple says an elaborate rotating key scheme will soon let you track down your stolen laptop, but not let anyone track you. Not even Apple.www.wired.com
Tile do a very thin, credit sized one for wallets, passports, etc. Apple should do the same I think.I want this, but the only thing i usually misplace is my Wallet...and if i put it in my wallet its gonna look like a condom indentation...so i think ill wait til gen 3 where its as thin and flat as a piece of paper 🤷🏻♂️
Apple has a big, deal breaking advantage over Tile - Tile relies on other users having the Tile app installed to help you find things lost outside the home. Apple's system could use potentially any iOS device in the world (assuming it's opt out and most people won't bother). They’ll need to sell these pretty hard over tile for me to buy one. I feel others will be the same. Why reinvent the wheel. Why not work with existing products?
Tile so far has been fantastic.
The only thing that could be better is if you aren’t in range of your tile it can’t be found. A bit like find my airpods. Well if they’re lodged in the couch they won’t be found.
If apple worked with telcos around the world and made these 5G capable that would be what would really sell it for me.
When you lose something the fact that you haven't lost it many times before doesn't really help does it?is losing your keys a daily occurrence for people?
