Preorder anxiety!

Why wouldn't they include 1 gig of RAM ?

RAM is so freaking cheap as it is.

Why didn't they in the iPad 2, was almost as cheap back then too. Apple can be stingy sometimes. They are trying to keep the iPad price low after all, so cutting corners isn't exactly surprising.

No, wrong, nice try.

What about the other 99% of the picture that is COMPLEATLY different from the current iPad logic board ?

That wouldn't be photoshopped, it would be a complete fabrication. At that point, the prankster would be........

Look! I'm not going to go on and on.

Your just wrong.

Just because you disagree with someone doesn't make them wrong. What's really wrong here is your bad grammar.

Before you say anything further, I suggest you replace your logic board.

really frustrating that they might be including an 8 megapixel camera compared to the 2's 1 megapixel.....it will just make me want one more now.

What was the actual difference between the A4 and A5? Is it possible that Apple deemed the difference between the A4 and A5 as big as, say, the move from a Core Duo to a Core 2 Duo, and so it merited an increment of the number; but the move from the A5 to A5X was more like the move from a Core 2 Duo to a Core 2 Quad, where really the only difference is the number of cores so even though it's quite a bit more powerful, it's more similar than different to the previous model and so doesn't merit a new name?

I said that the only reason why it has metal on it would be because it's a heatsink. If it's a heatsink, it'd also need a fan to dissipate the heat.

Now zoom up on the picture, you can see all the text on either side of the A5X logo and the logo itself are photoshopped. See all the pixels around them when you zoom in? All I did was zoom in using my FireFox browser and saw the bad photoshop job.

I believe heat sinks can operate well enough on their own as long as the heat output isn't too high. I used to have this Nvidia GeForce 5200 in my computer and it only used a heatsink, didn't need a fan

From the size of that Heat Sink it's an Overclocked A5. As I expected. Apple has no fabs for the A6.

I say take over the Austin Samsung Fab. National Security.

but they're not... they're reducing the price by $50, because they are keeping the iPad 2 around.

negative ghostrider, they will slash the current ipad 2 price by $100 and keep 1 model of the old ipad around to attract the lower price crowd while introducing the iPad 3 at the current iPad pricing. the lowest price point always has to have an attractive number, because that is the one it will advertise.

Funny

So if it isn't Quad-Core why did Apple updated it's processing-core management software to support 4 cores in iOS 5.1 beta:

http://www.cultofmac.com/138316/ios-5-1-beta-suggests-next-gen-quad-core-iphones-and-ipads-report/

and as MC said, the date code in this "A5X" clearly "indicates that it was manufactured in the 46th week of 2011, which would have corresponded to November 14-20" meaning: prototype

But of course...I could be wrong :p

P.S. Sorry if there's something wrong with my grammar, It's just that I am not a native English speaker.

Going to be $349 WiFi 16G iPad 2

Is it possible that Apple deemed the difference between the A4 and A5 as big as, say, the move from a Core Duo to a Core 2 Duo...
Both the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo have two cores. However, the Core Duo was 32-bit only, whereas the Core 2 Duo was 32/64-bit. (I have the Core Duo in my first-gen MacBook Pro, the reason I can't run Lion on it.)

I get the idea of your post, but the difference between the chips isn't quite the same. Comparing a Pentium to a Core Duo would be a little more accurate... though didn't they make dual-core Pentiums too? Ugh... :D

You're absolutely correct that heatsinks can work without a fan. However, look at the heatsink on the card and the supposed heatsink on the supposed A5X. The heatsink that needed no fan actually has a lot of space around it to dissipate heat. It's also 3D where it has more room to dissipate heat. With the flat one installed on the supposed A5X, the only thing it'd do is hold heat in more than dissipate it. Also, there will be other things laying on top of that heatsink. This would totally trap the heat and would overheat the cpu even faster. Heatsinks that have no fan MUST be a grill, not a flat piece of metal.

Why wouldn't they include 1 gig of RAM ?

RAM is so freaking cheap as it is.

One possible explaination is to improve battery life.

Something that might not be obvious is that minimizing memory usage on low-power platforms can prolong battery life. Huh? In any PC, RAM is constantly consuming power. If an OS uses a lot of memory, it can force device manufacturers to include more physical RAM. The more RAM you have on board, the more power it uses, the less battery life you get. Having additional RAM on a tablet device can, in some instances, shave days off the amount of time the tablet can sit on your coffee table looking off but staying fresh and up to date.

Don't care

I couldn't careless if it had an :apple:Core :)

I'm still using my IPad 1, I'm looking forward to whatever it is they come up with for me it's the software with apple that makes the experience... It has to look nice as well.

It all fits together:

The HD iPad was almost ready for Christmas but was delayed because of the screen. There's no way the A6 was ready last fall. And it's not ready now, because the 28nm "3D" process doesn't scale till summer '12 at the earliest. So this is the iPad 2 HD (even though they might call it iPad 3) with almost the same CPU, just much faster GPU and more RAM.

The GPU and and RAM is really the important part for going Retina.

iPad 4 is probably coming in the fall with the iPhone 5.

RAM is so freaking cheap as it is.

With the increased resolution Apple will be forced to include 1G with extra video memory requirement and all.

Other than the cost and the ease of production, I suspect a part of it is that extra RAM means more battery consumption although I don't know how big that is.

Here's Steve Sinofsky, the head of the Windows Division at Microsoft explaining it

The software is nothing if it doesn't have the hardware to support it.

Sounds like iPad 3, retina iMac, and :apple:TV (4K?) are all due about the same time.
I think my wallet is going to implode.

Well that's very interesting... I wonder what actually makes the A5X different than it's predecessor? To be frank, I really don't care if it's quad or dual, as long as it's fast "enough". The retina display will require more horsepower in and of itself of course, so I wonder if the technical upgrades were made primarily for that purpose... (upgraded graphics processing components, etc.).

Can't wait for that press release!
