The C stands for Color, Compact (4 inch), and... Cheaper.

This could just be the iPhone 5 in color, different from the low cost iPhone.

With regards to Apple's naming scheme, it is reasonable to assume that:

iPhone 5S (S for speed)
iPhone 5C (C for color)

iPhone 5 Color

All these years of frequenting Apple forums and playing with aluminium phones has set up a near Pavolvian response in me regarding anything made out of plastic.

iPhone 5S is upgraded internals and slight bump in camera pixel nothing else.( I highly doubt the bigger screen or finger print sensor).

This would give iPhone 5 owners no reason to upgrade in my opinion.

I'd be surprised if Apple didn't have a more enticing hook to lure in 5 owners.

Would much have preferred iphone mini and make the iphone 5s a little bit bigger and just start calling it iphone (gen #)

For Apple, this plastic packaging is genius IMO. The c designation was a poor choice, then again i thought iPad was a silly name.

Here's an honest question - Why would someone buy a specific color iPhone when one can buy a case or cases in more colors and for significantly cheaper?

Of course, I predicted the iPod Mini to be a complete flop.

This has nothing to do with innovation, unless you believe that Apple would be able to innovate an iPhone that a lot people in emerging markets would afford to buy, by magic perhaps. And, no, the solution isn't a carrier subsidized iPhone 4 for $0, since the customers wouldn't be able to pay for the plans.


This is purely about economics.
Or maybe you long for the old days when Apple had an abysmal market share?

The US is already an emerging market in its own right - most people don't have the means to pay for a full-price iPhone - so what is your point again?

Twice as fast and a better camera is a great reason to me! even better if they make the battery last longer and make it lighter at the same time. Those matter much more to me than fingerprint or or some other feature that I don't have a need for like nfc. What can matter more than wasted seconds of your life and the quality at which you capture it's moments? Kind of like macbooks, maybe they change the shape every few years, but mostly just bump specs to make them faster/battery last longer/lighter etc.

What? A brand new iPhone is $500-$700 device unsubsidized, with previous generation revs being considerably less. Your average American spent that much on their computers before the mobile revolution, their cars, their TVs, their what-have-yous. It's hardly an unobtainable object enjoyed by an elite, wealthy few.

I just got the red ipod touch, and OMG I love it!!! I wish the iphone was that thin and light. I mainly use it around the house, and I hate having to swap it for the iphone when I walk out the door. the red aluminum is beautiful, and the thing is so light I doubt it would have enough force to break itself if dropped. but like I said, it's mainly for around the house use, so not much need for a case. It's my first apple thing I've gone caseless for, and I have been loving every second of it.

It actually makes me thing the ipad mini is heavy, thick and bland in comparison, i wish it was pretty red like my ipod.
