is not cheap!!!

do not expect it go below $450. they are going to just replace iPhone 5C with $450.

iPhone 5C - $450
iPhone 5 - $550
iPhone 5S/6 - $650 - why not call it iPhone 6 if it has slightly bigger screen let us say 4.3" but same external look.

$450? It's not going to cost $450.

You don't seem to understand the purpose of this iPhone and where it's going to be sold.

You and I aren't going to be able to buy it, it's for emerging markets. Selling it in the US and Europe would erode Apple's profits since it would cannibalize sales of the expensive models (and that would include anything from the 4 to the 5S).

I haven't gone through this thread yet so I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but this image looks fake based on the shell on the right where the two Apple logos are close together. The logo on the right looks out of place compared to the rest of the shells, i.e. there's very little vertical space above it.

That's just an illusion due to perspective. How deep does that shell look compared to the others?

How many times have leaked photos turned out to be fakes? Can't remember the last time that happened. 95 times out of 100 we get photos, people cry fake due to some detail they claim to perceive as a bad photoshop job, and then the product is announced and the pictures turn out to be the real deal.

Maybe it's just an iPhone 5 without the aluminium casing, so it has higher profit margins at $99.

EDIT And if this is the 'low-cost' iPhone, it's not going to be cheap. The packaging basically says: it's an iPhone 5 in a different casing. They are not dropping the iPhone 5 price from $649 today, to $299/$399 tomorrow - even with a different casing.

Every gen iphone has dropped 100$ when a new one comes out, combine that with some cheaper stuff they can take 200$ off. That's 0$ with an upgrade.

No, it's probably the base of the casing, and the iPhone will "stand" in this part, with possibly a clear cover that slides over the phone and snaps into this base, to showcase the phone from all sides.
Even better. Makes sense.

Sheesh
What does it matter?
It is a friggin communication device for most as well as a toy for a bunch of others

Call it what you want
Design is like art - subjective - some will always like while other think not pretty

If the plastic shelled iphone is more resistant to damage, I am all in with it
I prefer my multi hundred $$ portable tools to tilt towards the tougher rather than 'sexier'

I am not my stuff - my stuff are my tools...

I'll never understand how can people can fantasize so much given a single letter. Rumors give you a C and you come up with carbon fiber even if there's not a single evidence for it? That's real mental masturbation.

Is this not a rumor site? My comment wasn't based on fantasy. On this same site, there has been mention of Apple using carbon fiber in the past. As for evidence, I guess you didn't read any of the provided links I put in my post. Please read everything before replying. You make yourself look bad if you don't read everything through and click all the provided links.

Anyways, here's how I came to my conclusion... without links for those people that won't click them anyways... Apple eliminates cheap plastic as a shell casing material from their product lineup, then Apple hires a carbon fiber expert, Apple buys a large sampling of carbon fiber, Apple is known to be experimenting with carbon fiber, Apple puts patents on carbon fiber... It's also referred to as carbon composite sometimes, or a polymer, depending on how it's made. What I posted was a guess, a logical conclusion based on actual facts. Sure, carbon fiber is expensive but price comes down in large quantities. How much? I don't know, but 10 million anythings built with carbon fiber is sure to drive price down considerably. Some forms of carbon fiber can also be recycled, which is important to Apple. It all just kinda made sense to me. Now, do you have anything that says this will NOT be carbon fiber? If you do, it's just a rumor anyways, right?

IIRC, Tim Cook gave an interview recently where he said Apple would never make a crappy plastic phone (something about them only using premium materials like aluminum and glass).

----------

What does the S in 4S/5S stand for? Why does the C have to stand for anything? It might be like Mercedes' S-Class versus C-Class.

No, he said Apple won't make crappy phones....nothing about what they'll be made out of. I'm expecting a video detailing how Apple has developed a new precision plastic process that gives incredible fit and finish. Something along the lines of Carbon fiber wouldn't surprise me, but the leaked pictures don't seem to indicate that.

With regards to Apple's naming scheme, it is reasonable to assume that:

iPhone 5S (S for speed)
iPhone 5C (C for color)

Don't understand why some people are "baffled" with Apple's choice of model names.

The "S" moniker since the introduction of the iPhone 3GS stood for "Speed", it was an incremental upgrade.

No reason not to assume the "C" moniker will stand for "Color", given the multitude of various color casings that have leaked.

you seems to new to Apple. they are trying to reduce the cost (by going plastic and cutting corner and making it more volume product) not by reducing the price.

you answered your own question. no reason for apple to reduce the price of entry level iPhone less than $450.

they are making ton of $$$, why reduce the margin?

for $229 you have iPod touch. that is it.

may be may be, they keep the iPhone 4S for $350 - but again it proved that much costlier to manufacture to iPhone 4S - very little chance the keep the iPhone 4S with 3.5" screen.

Photo is fake and there will only be one iPhone. Of course there is an apple television and iWatch along with a PowerBook G5 soon to be released.

This is likely a bucket of rejects. The ones used wouldn't be put in a tub like this.

If Steve Jobs was still here, there wouldn't be any leaks at all. Apple is no longer a secretive company. It's sad. :( No more surprises.

I've been on this forum for over a decade, and trust me, there were plenty of leaks under Jobs. Probably more on average than there are now.

Everything that defined Apple - design and (build) quality - has now gone down the drain with these cheap knock-off looking, plastic iPhones. I don't like the direction Apple is heading

So you're saying the iPhone 3G and 3GS were poorly made and looked like cheap knock-offs?

If this was the case, then Apple could just have kept the 4 and 4S as entry phones. But again, this isn't for the US or Europe and this is about more than just "cutting corners and a plastic shell".

Because if this was just about "cutting corners and a plastic shell" and it was sold in US and Europe, what do you think would happen to iPhone 5S/5/4S/4 (whichever of these models that Apple will still sell) sales?

Sorry but Apple wouldn't have a huge pile of those cases just laying there with no protection. They would be organized and covered in plastic.

Apple has built many plastic devices in the past and currently. You be new to Apple products. iPhone 5 your first?

It is of course preposterous to presume Apple will be rehashing the same old iPhone stuff as its been doing (successfully) for the past two years with the same old iPad stuff.

Can't Rehash The Same Old Stuff (in the hope the bubble won't burst) My Ass!
