Easter Walk

Well, they're seated now, but we did go out for a walk.

Some great pix recently, though this is the one that stands out for me. The light really makes the shot (though, IMO, the shot would be stronger for cropping the bottom third away)...

Love this too. The light... plus the 'one horse town' feel to it. Looks like another tripod user... ;)

I’ve had a busy holiday weekend, shooting pix in the Pennines. Easter brings out all the real doylems. People who only drive their cars on bank holidays, at 20mph, while someone in the car points out cows and fields. People who want to give their new in-car stereo systems an outing (at full volume they sound like a man, armed with a leg of lamb, trying to break out of an IKEA wardrobe). So I enjoyed the Pennine wastes, with wonderful light and stormy clouds coming close together, as they so often do.

I got home to find my internet wasn’t working. It was quite a jolt to the system: no email, no MR, no BBC news, no nothing. I had a bad night, tossing and turning, filled with wierd dreams. It was salutary (and pretty damn depressing) to realise just how addicted I am to the internet, and how bereft I feel without it.

It turned out to be a small router problem. All sorted now. I am now reconnected to The Great Distraction. Happy days... :)

Cross Fell looking wintry, though spring seems to have arrived in the valley...

Very nice photo of a Mandarin Duck. Related to the US Wood Duck. It's not native to the British Isles.

Fujiko7 I love that duck. Very vibrant colors.

Thanks guys for the kind words about the Mandarin Duck photo.

i can see thru its back....odd

It sort of looks that way ... but in fact it's stretching its neck.

Duck flying away across the a lake.

This is great. Even the humble Mallard can be interesting.

...we've been talking more and more about adding her as an additional subject in some of my landscapes. C&C?

Yeah, more is good ... :)

Finally have some time to get out with the camera .

Bald Eagle vs The Branch Pt 2

A follow-up to yesterday's posting of the BE carrying a branch. For those of you who read the story that went with it, here is a shot of her fighting with the branch. By this time she has let go of the branch, but it still has hold of her and is really freaking out.

C&C always welcome.

Actually, for that shot the tripod stayed in the car as I was in a hurry to catch the light before disappearing. I credit the in-camera stabilization and years of practice hand-holding for the sharp photo. With a lens that wide I can hand hold down to 1/10s (with proper holding and breathing).

taken in March, hope you dont mind me posting it here... it's my most recent pic!

This is a time lapse night shot of Beaver Creek Ski Area in Beaver Creek, CO. This is a stack of about 120 thirty-second exposures... so roughly an hour of movement. Hope you like it!

ISO 800

F9 (i think)

There's a detail of the ski mountain (no stars, just the mountain) here.

Photo of Amanda's birthday present. 6" heels, v-cut, black. She's
going to be stoked. The 5 3/4" heels I got her 2 months ago weren't
tall enough according to her.

That's really beautiful. What made you use the high ISO for such a long exposure?

The lighting here is really absurd. It almost makes the heels look cheap and plastic. Was the light source right under a table?

I'm starting to realize that I really enjoy taking pictures of old things. I found this near my house.

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Old things are often way cooler than new things. Just my opinion really.

Hmm... maybe I should post a photo of myself ?

If you consider yourself a thing, go right ahead! :)

Of course I was speaking of inanimate objects originally, but I do find portraits very interesting as well.

Thanks! Glad you dig it!

I was afraid that with so much light pollution from the city and the snowcats, I would have trouble picking up the stars above the mountain. So I pushed the ISO in hopes of getting better star trails. If I had gone with a less sensitive ISO, i may not have gotten much star presence at all (or at least that is what my reasoning says).
