Hotel New York (with the green domes with a clock). It was from here that emigrants set sail to Australia, New Zealand, Canada,.. in the post-war early 1950's in search for a better life. Most succeeded well. The towering skyscrapers indicate that their homeland did well, too. Taken during a freezing sunset, it's April! :(

Very nice John...extraordinary colours. I had to Google Mandarin Duck to find that they're similar to our Wood Duck that I've been trying to track-down without success.

This is a Red-necked Grebe (aka Duck):

Thanks Peter, these two were pretty easy to track down, they are in the Asian bird aviary at our zoo. I really wanted to get down lower again to be at their level, but the path was really wet and filthy, with me having nothing to lie on. Might have to throw a small tarp in my kit backpack.

I love the head plumage on the Grebe. There is some amazing variety within the avian orders, more than a lifetimes worth to try and capture if you were so inclined. One of the twins here is wanting to become an Ornithologist, so bird shooting is becoming a hobby for me as we are out nearly every weekend with various bird watching groups. Not that I have a good lens as yet, I'm still with the 55-250mm clunker, but when it (or is that me) works, it's surprisingly good for a budget/starter lens!

I visited Gibb's Gardens on a beautiful spring Saturday and took several flower pictures while I was there.

Went out to experiment with catching birds in flight today. This was one of the ones I liked, although ideally I would have been able to frame it so it was on the right. Too quick for me. ;)

LOL...been there myself many times John. I recently bought a small/short three legged stool from a camping supply store. It was only $8.00, sets-up and collapses in seconds and is small and light enough to carry clipped to my belt loop. One of my most cost effective camera gear purchases yet. Highly recommended! :) The only minor problem is that the legs will sink into very soft ground and of course set-up on uneven ground can be tricky.

Here is another shot of the Red-necked Grebe:

Joe, I really enjoy your series of twilight city shots, it's something I've been intending to do for a while now, combining my love of the blue hour and architecture. Now that we are finally out of daylight savings, it's becoming possible as the sun sets earlier. Thank you for the inspiration.

Peter, I can see myself lying on the ground and using the low stool to rest the camera upon!

A nice combination of twilight and architecture again!

What a beautiful set of birds. Kudos to you all.

Thank you ma'am. You will be pleased to know that this simple shot of the Mandarin Ducks had about 20 minutes of post work from me. I'm quite amazed at how much I've learnt and applied over the last nine months. Still a lifetimes worth of learning ahead of me!

AT06, I like the overall composition of this one, it's a pity about the tower there in the background, any chance you can take it out of the picture? What is the little structure on top of the hill? I'd be tempted to remove it or place an old church in its place. I'm currently playing with compositing, but just not in the Grimes way, no people in mine.

Alex, you must have quite the repository of lenses there!
