lighting was crap this day, something I dont quite like about this photo, its alright though. I think golden sunlight would have done it some justice! Using that crappy 18-55IS kit lens, not my new 50mm 1.4 this time. Not too abd considering the lens I guess!

Exif:
Camera Canon EOS 550D
Exposure 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture f/11.0
Focal Length 37 mm
ISO Speed 100

My new Nikon setup:

The point and shoot S95 high ISO is absolutely sick. This is at ISO 800. On a point & shoot. Dumbfounded.

Nice setup. And that is really impressive, being at ISO 800. My DSLR will show much more noise that that! But then again, it isn't a Canon

I think the only way to get around the vibrations of the moving vehicle is to be a passenger in the car, in the back seat. Handhold the camera and use a stabilized lens; you'll absorb more of the vibrations that way. Besides that, it's also much safer than shooting while driving!

Couldnt you just photoshop it, take one long exposure for the blur and a quick one for the inside of the car???

Even if you used a stabilized lens, with such a slow shutter speed I doubt you'd be able to get a picture that's nearly as good as the ones posted. Well, at least where I live, it's impossible to do it handheld, thanks to our awesomely smooth roads.

A while back Doylem asked how I put together these triptychs. Shortly after I had someone else ask me, so I decided to try my hand at writing a tutorial about it. If you're interested, you can read my tutorial here. Critiques of my tutorial are welcome.

Thanks Otter. The tutorial looks pretty straight forward and clean to me.

Looks like a good set up to me. Hope you're feeling a lot better now. The S95's captured it well. Good things, Canons! ;)

Not certain about your description of the ISO. The only thing that looks sick to me is your plant in the corner! :D

:p

The plant is the responsibility of my GF!

This is not the most interesting picture I've taken, but when the fog suddenly showed up this morning I went up to the forested area in my neighborhood. I liked the texture of these trees and the way they and the other branches lined up in the frame with the foggy background.

Equipment doesn't make a good shot.

For that to work well, the tripod would need to be very stable inside the car. Any movement will make aligning the two exposures rather difficult. But yeah, it's certainly something to try.

Fog shots tend to work the best when there's something that leads the eye into the distance as the light and detail fade out, or when there's a looming shape working against some featureless negative space. Next time, try a shot along a tree-lined path, with fewer distracting branches and leaves- or shoot a wider angle or from father back if you've got a lot of stuff going in all directions- the eye likes leading lines to lead it around a picture and a jumble of lines tends to confuse the composition.

Sunrise on the Atlantic... this is something I don't see often... (a) because I'm never up early enough and (b) I live on the Pacific coast. :)

I didn't notice this at the time, but when looking at this photo on my computer, I noticed that there is what looks like a man-made whisp of smoke rising from the horizon... a ship?

People that are focused on gear instead of the photograph always amaze me. He thinks that if he used his 50mm 1.4, the should would have came out phenomenal. IMO, he could have got the exact same shot because he doesn't understand lighting, nor composition...

Henri Cartier Bresson had a worse lens than your "crappy" 18-55, but somehow took striking photos. I wonder...

Not to mention the 18-55 is nothing nowhere near "crappy". I only have that lens, and it's not even Canon, it's Sony

Or... he could sit in the middle lane, parked and just drag the shutter while the cars zoom by. Oh... that probably isn't too safe of an idea.

Pretty cliche shot, but the sky had a painterly look to it. I wish there was a plane or maybe a flock of birds to add something of interest to all the empty space. Oh well
