Bit of low shutter speed panning:

A Cessna that looks fast even at low speed!

It's the fastest, or second fastest biz-jet in the world, depending on who you talk to - and weather you consider N29UB a biz-jet or not (a privately owned MiG-29 fighter plane). I've seen VH-RCA plenty of times, but never on the move before.

I quite like that image. :)

Thank you :)

The ray was about eight to ten feet away in that picture (11mm-16mm lens). I was setup for close work with two strobes and no chance to switch them off. As a result there it a bit of back scatter and particulate that could have been avoided. It has been very windy the day before so the water was quite stirred up.

It was my first time diving with a camera and it looks like I only got the two pictures to show for it (the eagle ray and sea turtle). Overall I am very happy with those two shots and can't wait to try again.

I'll take the G650 as the fastest, especially since it's made in my town. Nice that some things are still made in the USA.

According to "FLYING" (http://www.flyingmag.com/news/gulfstream-g650-now-fastest-bizjet), G650 attained MACH .995 giving it the highest speed attained by a biz jet. Can't count the N29UB as a biz jet....where's the galley? How many seats? Range of 7,000 miles? Sorry, in flight refueling doesn't count. Oh yeah, where's the "head". Okay, the G650 speed was attained in a dive but still dang fast and it certainly is a beauty:D

I think there is a solution for that in most military aircraft (you wear it). unfortunately it's not very elegant. And it only caters for one ahem, 'problem'.

I'll have a G650 as well if finances permit! She's a beauty of a machine. I spent some time admiring Hong Kong Jet's B-KHJ a while back (A G550) - amazing.

Laird Knox: I hear that Norway is pretty awesome for underwater photography too. One of my recent Nikon Pro magazines had a great article on that.

Tried to do some stencil light painting, but it didn't go 100% as planned, a lot was learnt, not ideal to try something new at 1am though :p

The heathland landscape around my shack isn’t the kind of Lakeland that visitors come to see. It’s an ‘intimate’ landscape, not dramatic, but on a sunny winter’s day the walking’s fine...

^^^Lovely^^^ Gorgeous colors. Strange, but it feels cold and warm at the same time :)

Tonight is the start of Winterlude here in Ottawa / Gatineau and I hope to have fireworks photos to share.

Fantastic. I really like the silhouetted figure pointing in the foreground, and it's so nice to see fireworks against a sky with some blue left in it (very rare). Really nice work.

I second that motion. :)

At some point you posted the link to your Gallery page, and I subscribed to it with my newsfeed reader. I was just checking the reader and saw this picture and came here to send you a PM to say that I love this image, and here it is. Well done, you have created yet another jaw dropping image.

Thank you so much for the kind words, Avro and Phrasikleia! I am a big fan of the images both of you post, so it means a lot.

And Avro, your images inspired me to go to my local airport today and attempt some aviation shots. I found it incredibly difficult to keep the aircraft sharp while incorporating motion blur by panning, so I have an even greater appreciation for your work now! I am going to try again but I honestly don't know how you do it. Great stuff!

Thanks! :) I use a Wimberley Tripod Head on a very heavy Manfrotto tripod. That's what helps the most. VR in normal mode also helps a bit too. Hardest bit is on long shutter speeds (0.5sec or greater) is the view through the viewfinder goes, so you have to have the feel for how quickly to pan the image.

Thanks! :) Great shot - very dreamy look to it. I imagine that dreamy feel lasts only until you step out the door into that. (brrrr, cold!!!). ;)
