My comments would be try not to have your subject dead centre. Think of the frame in thirds and try to line up your focal point with one of the third lines.
Also it looks a little underexposed.

Taken on board, thanks. My mistake was probably lining up the centre focus point on the dandelion, therefore getting the flower in the centre of the frame.
I would crop it to one side so the yellow part is off to the left of frame.
Exposure was at 800 ISO, would 400 have been better?

Cheers :)

If it was underexposed moving from ISO 800 to 400 wouldn't have helped. I would have opened your aperture a little wide. But I think from the data you are showing you are in auto mode? Might I suggest trying Apperture priority or Manual mode?

Thanks very much for your help, I shall try opening up a bit.

Cheers :)

Alex, MacRy, M5RahuL, AlaskaMoose, Wyro and VirtualRain, thank you so much for the compliments...they are appreciated as much as this bird's willingness to perform.

Majestic. Keeping my fingers crossed that it managed to catch something and that you managed to capture that, Peter.

The owl did Alex but sadly, I did not - other than an out of focus blur of brownish/grey and white spray. :(

wow..just..wow!!

Any editing in LR, Aperture, PS ...etc ?

Edited with Aperture M5RahuL: A bit of a crop, white balance and exposure adjustment, shadow recovery (the owl was under-exposed because of the bright snow) and sharpening.

I can't post too many of this guy because I know that MacRy is pining for the Red-tailed Hawk.

Lol :)

I just thought you'd finally saved up enough money for that Owl filter you've been after that eliminates Red Tailed Hawks from your shots ;)

I love owls actually so you post as many of them as you like. You're so lucky to live somewhere that has them in the wild like that.

Just ignore MacRy. He's too busy swimming anyhow...
I can't get enough of these birds.

Much better than the two ladies from the previous day! The one closest to you looked rather miffed...

Can't win them all, Peter! Still, it must have been an amazing thing to witness. You are very lucky to have the opportunity. I can go to a wildlife park and see an owl grab a dead mouse from a keepers glove, but somehow, it's not quite the same...

The dimension to the wings is phenomenal, this is a doozie of a capture, Peter.

I avoid centred shots because the slightest imperfection shows terribly but you nailed this one Alex. It's flawless...well done!

~ Peter

Thanks, Peter. It's a testament to my OCD behaviour! Taken using my ball-head and I must say it took a while to get everything bang-on for it. I now have a three-way pan head, which arrived a few days after taking this one. That will make it a tad easier to achieve with the independent movements offered, but I already know that I really need a geared head unit for the super-fine movement they allow... I had to be square to the building and perfectly level too, as well as getting the right framing. I feel I need to lose some of the shutter-gates from the bottom and recompose this one, so will be back again soon, hopefully the clouds are there too!

Very nice owl. I'd have this framed if it was mine.

* Or, as the Americans like to call it, "London, England". :p:)

You made it down to London village then?

I think I may have actually developed gills over the past week.

Actually today was a dry one for a change. Sadly I had family priorities which meant I had to stay home, but here is another one from the Birmingham Library.

Comments always welcome.

actually, she is sitting on a desk with a desklight shinning over her, it looks as if she is on wooden floor in front of a window, but no..! thanks for asking!!

Interesting POV, AFB. Have you played with it in monochrome? It has the strength and interest to work well in that treatment.

What are the wires feeding into this exoskeleton for? To keep the riff-raff off of it, with a subtle 50,000 V running through it? Does it light up at night? If it does, I'm interested to see it, if possible. ;)

I did try it in monochrome but didn't care for it as much.
I haven't been in to Birmingham at night with the camera yet. I imagine it would look kind of cool though. I'll be sure to post if I do.

I kind of thought it was a table (maybe because of the lack of skirting rail), but she I thought it was a window letting in light. Nice light manipulation.

Went to try to take some photos of Cathedral Rock near Sedona, but Oak Creek was running very high and fast and I did not want to risk trying to cross it to get more of a straight on shot. Plus there was a photographer who got there just before me and set up so I had to make do the best I could with framing. Plus there were no clouds to speak of in the night sky. This was taken towards the end of the day, using a long exposure technique.
