Great Grey Owl

A storm hit the southern US earlier this week and has now moved up the east coast into New England. Snowing today in Rhode Island. Took this snap. Nothing stellar or even all that interesting about it, just felt like sharing a taste of this winter for those living in more hospitable climates.

Photo of the day: February 2014

You've really captured her natural beauty with this one. Thank goodness you didn't over process it!:D

I assume you used a really fast shutter speed to avoid any movement she might have been making?:D

Of course. I shot her at 5fps to make sure I got the shot I wanted.

Another awesome bird shot! Great job fella.

A self portrait (camera on timer with ND grad attached) at the beautiful Skogafoss waterfall in southern Iceland (located along the main highway just before you hit the town of Vik).

Nice shot and what a beautiful location. I'd love to visit Iceland one day.

Couldn't find any trolls here... (Just as the sun is starting to set)

Spectacular capture, Peter! My favourite bit is the legs all covered in feathers, I don't recall seeing that ever before. I've seen the top of the legs covered, but not the whole leg. Simple things for simple minds...

I normally like my landscapes to be devoid of people, but your presence here works wonderfully. Awesome capture with great intensity.

I've unfortunately been away from here for a while. I started a new job this year, and it's taken away a lot of my free time. I haven't been out to shoot anything substantial for about a month, either. The recent snowstorm in Atlanta made me get the desire to go out and shoot some of the winter scenes early this morning.

Thanks very much MCH-1138, drewu, WYRO, MacRy and Alex.

Yes, their legs are completely covered with small feathers and I find that fascinating as well (another simple mind I suppose ;)). To me, it gives them a warm, soft and gentle appearance (almost as though they're wearing pyjamas) which is very deceiving and I suppose, that may be nature's design.

A church... that's also a shop and a café...

Welcome back! Haven't seen anything from you in a while. All this rain is not conducive to your beautiful landscapes.

This reminds me of frosted corn flakes for some reason. Probably just thinking with my stomach as usual! I wish we would get some snow.

Very nice sea scape.

Welcome to the club. You can actually post the picture rather than just the link by following the instructions in the first post.

Sorry still new to this and trying to work it out. But just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the feedback of my shot. Really appreciate the kind words :)

I noticed comments on the weather. I travel a fair bit - but as yet have found nowhere that is as changeable as Iceland. It is literally snowing one min, sunny the next, and a full on rain storm after.

But it makes it pretty challenging, which is fun :)
